charmer
Does one qualify if he has 60 points with all criterias put together except work-ex ? In other words he has zero work-ex but all the other conditions put together fetch him 60 points.

JoannaAch
Yes, you can. But you need to consider the requirements for positive skills assessment and if you want to apply for visa 190, also the requirements of the state. Have you already passed IELTS? Freesia
Have you done IELTS for the 20 points? whoops cross- posted !

JoannaAch
But you have a skills assessment? Does the assessment letter mention your degree as equivalent to Australian? If so, I think you are good to apply...
charmer
Oh ! I thought one needed a minimum work-ex in the relevant occupation after his graduation !
JoannaAch
There used to be requirement like that, but they removed it when SkillSelect was introduced.
charmer
It sounds so encouraging Joanna. But why does it be termed "skilled workers" category if one has no work-ex in that occupation?
JoannaAch
good point:) Doesn't skill assessment require at least some work experience? Have you checked that already?
JoannaAch
Requirements as mentioned on immi website: Requirements Applications are by invitation only. charmer
Yeh Joanna. Quals and employment are assessed. So both are pre-requsites for skill assessment. I wonder how i passed the above online assessment!
Kurvyy
I graduated in 2011 from an Australian university with 6 months work experience in Australia. I wasn't able to claim any points because I didn't have a min of 1 year. Which meant I had pretty much no experience and was still able to get my qualification assessed and recognised by Engineers Australia (EA). I applied and got granted with no experience. I got to mention though that my adv. diploma and honours degree were both courses that were entirely accredited and governed by EA. You should be okay as long as you have your qualifications have been assessed positive for skilled migration purposes!

Rupert
Thats Interesting Kurvin!Wish to here more of similar experiences.[/QUOTe] You would be better to focus on your own situation then other people's experiences. If you have over 60 points (without needing work experience points) and a positive skills assessment from a job on the SOL (Schedule 1) then you can apply for the 189 visa. It would not be possible to pass the skills assessment without experience for most occupations, but there are a couple of exceptions. If you are in one of those exceptions then no work experience is required for the process.

blossom
I understand there are exceptions for those recently graduated from Australian Univ. Are there any other exceptions? There are a very limited number of jobs which don't require experience to pass the skills assessment. The Australian uni thing totally depends in the occupation too, this isn't true for all. All of this is irrelevant though if you have passed your skills assessment.
