190 visa and ielts??????

Hi all,

 

Ive just got a few issues regarding to 190 visa. I know it's 60 points to apply which I thought I had. I am 30 years of age. I have completed and passed my skills assesment, vetassess electrician general. I did the ielts only recently and got, reading 8.5,listening 8.5,speaking 8.5 and writing 7. I lived and worked in my trade in Australia in 2009 2010 so that's 12 months work experience in oz and I get an automatic five points applying for the 190 so:

 

age: 30

skills: 10

ielts: 10

work ex: 5

visa: 5

 

So 60 points. But just as I thought I would b applying for the EOI this week my agent in Australia has told me I only have sufficient evidence to show I worked 9 months in oz. Regrettably I worked a few years illegally which doesn't count and I only have two years experience outside of Australia which isn't enough for points.

Im just wondering is there been anybody else who had been a position similar??????? Is my only option going to be to try and get all band 8's in that bloody ielts to get 20 points???

I really will hate doing it again as I feel I really have done best I could already. I knew I'd find the writing the hardest. It's annoying havin to do all of them again as I am worried ill slip up in maybe reading or listening even if I do well in the writing. It's only a money racket.

So if this is the way I have to go can anybody reccomenend any books or sites especially for the writing.

Or is there another way????

Hi Ive heard that Ryan on youtube is good as is a book called Target Band 7 (albeit i know you need 8's). Im having to bite bullet and resit Ielts but fully agree its a money maker to a certain extent! Good luck

What is the 'automatic 5 points for applying for visa'? Where have you read that? We could do with an extra 5 points! :biggrin:

I am the same as nic. Re sitting IELTS exam as I got L8, W8.5, S8.5 and R7.5. I needed 8's in all for 20 points. I had to do academic for my skills assessment and only needed 7's for that. But now I have to do it again for the points. The only good thing now is that I can do the general test instead of the academic which is easier i believe. Well I hope so anyway lol. Is it 5 points for state sponsorship. It's a 190 visa.

Best bet is to do the ielts again and score 20. Main thing about the writing is to summarise what you are looking at and not to repeat the data they give you. Lots of practice beforehand and I'm sure you'll get the 8 you need. Good luck!

I think you should get IELTS feedback. That's my only criticism. That, and for £135 they could put the heating on. I was freezing on my test day. I have recently booked my IELTS and when they sent confirmation they gave me access to free practice tests. Maybe you'll get the same Mark.

.....as long as a State will sponsor us when the time comes........! :biggrin: That's a long way off though, as we're still waiting for our skills assessment......
