You'll have to hand it over a customs, they don't allow fruit to enter the country :biglaugh:

sorry, couldn't help myself

You could send it in your luggage, but make sure you have insuranced, also take the reciept just so you can show you've had it for a while, and won't get charged anything.....

Hubby sent his there and back airfreight. Took about a week each way, was in the original box both times and it arrived without a scratch. Sent with John Mason going as they did the rest of our shipping, sent it back with pack and send which is also in the UK, was quicker and cheaper with them.

You can pre pay excess baggage with your flight cheaply. So back up to an external hard drive and take that on board. Cover the box in brown paper and loads of tape. Insure it for the full value in the UK and if it goes missing you will get a better one here in OZ for the insurance value if it goes AWOL but you will have all your data so no real personal loss :)

oo, can we send it like that? we were thinking of packing it in our case - unboxed - padded with the little ones nappies!!! (last resort!)

will Emirates accept a boxed item as checked luggage??

No idea about Emirates but you can with BA and they have the maximum dimensions and cost on their website. It is how freight forwarders send your stuff anyway! Just call them with the dimensions and get a quote. Never be afraid to ask even if they don't say they do, they most likely will :)

Nothing, assuming it's not brand new

It's only a computer - people bring them in and out all the time

Yay! :)

As far as I can see on the Customs Website you only need to fill out forms for unaccompanied personal effects. http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4354.asp

We do have very high import limits these days. You can import $1000 AUS excluding freight costs in a shipment. Years ago it was $400 including freight and then you really got stung as they whack on the Duty, then GST.

Just be very careful what you use to package, best to use new materials, not recycled as most of the stuff that does get opened for inspection is for Quarantine.
