Extra baggage allowance with Emirates and special assistance?

A friend of a friend mentioned Emirates will increase your baggage allowance if you are flying on certain visa's (PR/457 etc). Can anyone confirm if this is true and also who I would contact to take advantage of this?

I have my partner and young daughter (of just 8 weeks) coming from Dublin to join me in Perth in early July, I am slightly concerned about them passing through security in Dubai with how busy the place is. Does anyone know if I can seek 'extra or special' assistance from staff at the airport to get my partner and child through quicker and help with hand luggage?

Thanks in advance.

This is correct, although some airlines did stop this, the best thing to do is drop them an email asking, that way you have everything in writing. I think anyone can request special assistance just give them a call or add it to the same email.

Hi there,

Yes Emirates may give extra baggage allowance if you open an account with ANZ bank--they then basically send you a link through which you have to book the tickets. Also heard that IOM also has a tie up with them--but its basically for unvalidated permanent resident visa holders.

With regard to assistance they used to have a service where they would meet you at the plane and take you - escort you into the airport etc--cant seem to find details on the website now but its worthwhile giving them a ring and seeing what is available at Dubai airport.

I dont know about special assistance as there is loads of people travel alone with children and they couldnt do it for everyone but I have done it and its a lot easier with a little baby than a toddler. You will get a buggy at the airport, or the easiest way is to have a baby sling and keeps you hands free for baby bag and any hand luggage. No harm in asking though.

Agree with this (congrats on new baby btw). I don't think having a baby qualifies for special assistance at airports generally. It never got me anywhere anyways :cute: If your partner has a sling to carry baby in it will means her hands are free for hand luggage (and its great for some hands free time on the plane to keep baby content). Also they have trollies and so on at the airports so she won't have to carry stuff. Or she can use one of the airport pushchairs and put bags in that while carrying baby in a sling.

I know with a small baby there will be bags but if your partner travels with just vests and sleepsuits and a couple of cardis for baby it'll be a lot easier than faffing with clothes and so on. I remember we took something like a dozen nappies (maybe a few more), pack of wipes and a few vests, sleepsuits and bedding and were sorted. I was breastfeeding so didn't have the hassle of bottles and formula to worry about on top.

Hi, we have already booked the flights direct with Emirates a months ago? I have emailed them (today) but no reply as of yet?

Also, the baby sling is the route we are taking, though would still like some help at security if possible?

I mailed them when I was emigrating on my 309 Temp Spouse visa in Oct 2010 and they said there was no additional allowance. Possibly due to the 309 not giving PR, but definitely check with them directly...don't just turn up expecting it, because excess baggage costs a fortune...the woman in front of me checking in Glasgow to Brisbane was charged £50 per Kg!!

I'd say don't bank on it. Honestly, a baby and bags isn't so bad, esp if baby is in a sling. Baby will have to come out of it at security probably but it's not like they will give Mum a hard time if she has to get herself organised and take a few minutes to get baby in the sling and her bags together. She could just ask then if someone could give her a hand to move the bags out the way or something if need be.

They won't do the extra baggage allowance for signing up with ANZ if you fly out of Dublin, only if you fly out of major UK airports, I asked.
