jakc
Im filling in 47ES for my 856 visa application, for myself (primary) and my de facto partner. I am living in Australia on a 457, and have been for last 3 years. Question 16 asks: Country of current residence? Now bearing in mind that I am applying for residency for Australia, but have been living here for last 3 years, am I a resident of UK or Australia. Thanks :dull:

jakc
"Country of current residence? " Yes. I know the answers kind of on the tin here, but I still want clarification. I live in a house in Australia. However, I am applying to get residency in Australia. Therefore am I a current resident of Australia or a visitor? lebourvellec
If you are currently living in Australia - that is your "current" country of residence. Therefore am I a current resident of Australia or a visitor? are you in Australia on a visitors/tourist visa for the last 3 years??
jakc
If you read the original question: I am living in Australia on a 457 I am not sure how you define someone on a 457. Perhaps I am a temporary resident. Perhaps I am a resident from the UK working contractually for an Australian business.
RockDr
you are a temporary resident of Australia. probably still domiciled in the UK but could maybe claim ordinary residence in the UK depending on your circumstances.

Yes I read the question - you are not a visitor of Australia - you are on a Long Stay Business Visa, which is a TR visa. the question asks where are you "currently" living. They know you are on a TR visa - if you have been working in Australia for the last 3 years you are no longer a UK resident (but you are a UK citizen). Working contractually for an Australian Business is noting to do with the question.
