Looking for a job before arriving to OZ

Hi folks!

I've received my visa few days ago and now I think about to start looking for a job.

I wonder if it's possible to apply for a job before actually arriving to OZ?

I mean is there such a practice at all?

I'm looking for a QA Engineer/Linux Admin/Linux programmer kind of jobs..

I will be great if someone who've done that could share some info..

Thanks in advance!

Eugene

What visa type do you have?

If its a WHV I'd wait till you are there. jobs are only short term and most places won't consider you till you there in front of them.

Actually it's a 176 PR visa.

Would it be any different in that case?

Thanks!

Hy mate, i have to agree with Snifter, from my own experience i'd wait until your actually here and sat in front of them. All i ever got back when i applied for jobs when i was still in the UK was "Great, but give us a call when you land"

Good Luck anyway

You can apply for jobs and request an interview by telephone or skype. It is not unheard of and that's how I got my job. However, you would be asked at interview how soon you could arrive (and they want an answer in days or weeks, not months) and you will obviously be at a disadvantage in the interview process since you would look "complicated". But if you don't try, you won't succeed.

I thnk there is no point applying until you are ready to move over and can at least say "I will be in Australia on X" date.

We did that and had job interiews lined up when we arrived and thus both secured roles within a couple of weeks of arrival. I do not believe we would have been successful without providing that definite date.
