  1. I think getting us back in under the current rules will be a very hard sell, it will take major compromise on both sides. We have lost the concessions (rebate) that we were lucky to have, and I believe all new members must accept full currency union and a lot of people in the UK have some weird attachment to sterling!!
  2. I think the cumulative effects of the last 16 years, The GFC, Austerity, Brexit, Covid and now the Cost of Living crisis is really showing, as a nation we need a few years without a crisis to get back on our feet.
  3. We rented out a property in South Australia recently, 27 people at the inspection but the reality is only about 5 of them were decent prospective tenants, when the real estate agent dug into references and employment etc The issue you may have is that you wont be seen as a good prospective long term tenant. So if your plan is to rent for a few months before you buy make sure you keep that to yourself, we turned one couple down as they stated that on their application form that it was perfect as they were looking to buy in the area, which to a landlord just says, I will have to go through this all again in a few months when you move on!!!
  4. You won’t be able to access the UK channels without a VPN, the streamer checks your location based on your IP address which will have an Australian range and will block you based on that. The only thing the fire stick with a UK account really allows is access is to the UK apps on the store, IPlayer etc probably won’t be available on the Oz version of the store. You could combine the stick with a UK Amazon account with a subscription to to something like NordVPN to watch the Uk channels, I might know people who do that to watch Australian channels from the UK
  5. We spoke to a removal company yesterday and they were very clear that you can't ship Lithium batteries, so something to consider if you have any tools that use those.
  6. I find it's the opposite! whenever we go to visit my wife's family everybody goes out of their way to make time to see us, and we do the same when they come to visit us.
  7. The link includes his phone number and email address, there was also a link to his website earlier in the thread https://www.suncoastmigration.com/contact-us
  8. I think you are going to need paid help from here. Here are Paul's contact details from the Australian registered migration agent website https://portal.mara.gov.au/search-the-register-of-migration-agents/register-of-migration-agent-details/?ContactID=bd96c3a0-98d6-e711-9417-000d3ad152db

    Mrs

She should be able to join a school in Year 11 and do the last 2 years. I feel it’s a pretty bad time to move a child from an educational point of view though. An international school might be a better option.
  10. When I looked for South Australia, proof of address (Bank statement\Rental contract etc) is one of the mandatory required documents.
  11. Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but as you are in the business! Do you know what the market is like at the moment? Angular\.Net Developer landing in Adelaide towards the end of the year. Spent the last 20 years contracting in the UK, but I appreciate it's more permie based in Oz.
  12. All fair points, but if they don't have an aptitude for coding they will be mediocre at best. Aptitude will always determine how good they will be, I've known a lot of very intelligent people who really struggle with coding as their brain just don't work in that way.
  13. A lot of the better coders I know haven't been near a university. Education might get you through the door, but it's an occupation that is really down to aptitude, you've either got it or you don't
  14. Will your pretty much adult by then Australian son want to stay in the UK? He would have to pay to go to University and be treated as a non-resident so it would cost more (not capped as 3 years residency required). He would also be leaving all of his friends and way of life behind. Just be prepared that after a couple of months in the UK he may very well be on plane back to Australia.
  15. The other thread is pinned and has a lot of useful historical information, I think you should add your details to that one, rather than start a new one. Good luck with your application, last year they were regularly being granted in less than 3 months.
  16. The big downside of renting for me is that you could be forced to move on at any time after a rental contract comes to an end. How would you feel about a lack of property security in 10 years time?
  17. The picture you paint of Brisbane is very similar to my experience of the regional cities in South Australia, Adelaide itself is fortunately a bit more sophisticated, otherwise I wouldn't move!!!
  18. A bit late now, but to help with the move and comms, we purchased one of these in the Black Friday sale before our last trip out there, means we have a number we can use already when dealing with Australian companies\banks etc https://www.amaysim.com.au/sim-plans/12-month-sim-plans It's available as an e-sim if your phone has that capacity so can be setup from here.
  19. AirBnb's are great but you would be very fortunate for a school to allow you to use that address for enrolment. The schools I have looked at for our kids want either proof you own the home you live in, a signed contract to purchase, or a 12 month rental agreement covering the whole of the school year!! They may be more flexible on this as you aren't entering at Year 1 or Year 7 if they have spaces, but not having a permanent address would still likely be an issue.
  20. My wife and kids will be staying with family for a couple months about 90 mins away from where we will end up living. I wish it was simple enough to say we can buy\rent a house in X area in Adelaide so we can get them into school ASAP, but anybody who knows the Adelaide market will tell you getting anywhere is hard enough. Missing a couple of months (which is not actually missing any as they will both do an extra year) of school to end up in the right house and right school is the better option for us.
  21. Just be aware that compared to the UK, Australia can appear to be pretty much closed from Christmas through the first 2 weeks in January!! It's combined summer and Christmas holidays so it can be hard to get anything done!!
  22. UK Summer holidays, then my wife will travel over end of September with the kids, stay with family and hopefully get a head start on finding a new house and school, the two kind of go together as there is no point in finding a nice house if the school it's zoned for has no space or isn't the right fit.
  23. We have April and July born children and our plan is that they will be finishing in July this year and then not starting school until in January in Australia, we would like them to repeat the years they are doing now in the UK to give them a chance to settle into their new environment without being too stressed educationally. We have no intention of returning to the UK though.
