I find it's the opposite! whenever we go to visit my wife's family everybody goes out of their way to make time to see us, and we do the same when they come to visit us.

She should be able to join a school in Year 11 and do the last 2 years. I feel it’s a pretty bad time to move a child from an educational point of view though. An international school might be a better option.

When I looked for South Australia, proof of address (Bank statement\Rental contract etc) is one of the mandatory required documents.

All fair points, but if they don't have an aptitude for coding they will be mediocre at best. Aptitude will always determine how good they will be, I've known a lot of very intelligent people who really struggle with coding as their brain just don't work in that way.

A lot of the better coders I know haven't been near a university. Education might get you through the door, but it's an occupation that is really down to aptitude, you've either got it or you don't

Will your pretty much adult by then Australian son want to stay in the UK? He would have to pay to go to University and be treated as a non-resident so it would cost more (not capped as 3 years residency required). He would also be leaving all of his friends and way of life behind. Just be prepared that after a couple of months in the UK he may very well be on plane back to Australia.

The big downside of renting for me is that you could be forced to move on at any time after a rental contract comes to an end. How would you feel about a lack of property security in 10 years time?

The picture you paint of Brisbane is very similar to my experience of the regional cities in South Australia, Adelaide itself is fortunately a bit more sophisticated, otherwise I wouldn't move!!!

AirBnb's are great but you would be very fortunate for a school to allow you to use that address for enrolment. The schools I have looked at for our kids want either proof you own the home you live in, a signed contract to purchase, or a 12 month rental agreement covering the whole of the school year!! They may be more flexible on this as you aren't entering at Year 1 or Year 7 if they have spaces, but not having a permanent address would still likely be an issue.

My wife and kids will be staying with family for a couple months about 90 mins away from where we will end up living. I wish it was simple enough to say we can buy\rent a house in X area in Adelaide so we can get them into school ASAP, but anybody who knows the Adelaide market will tell you getting anywhere is hard enough. Missing a couple of months (which is not actually missing any as they will both do an extra year) of school to end up in the right house and right school is the better option for us.

Just be aware that compared to the UK, Australia can appear to be pretty much closed from Christmas through the first 2 weeks in January!! It's combined summer and Christmas holidays so it can be hard to get anything done!!

UK Summer holidays, then my wife will travel over end of September with the kids, stay with family and hopefully get a head start on finding a new house and school, the two kind of go together as there is no point in finding a nice house if the school it's zoned for has no space or isn't the right fit.

We have April and July born children and our plan is that they will be finishing in July this year and then not starting school until in January in Australia, we would like them to repeat the years they are doing now in the UK to give them a chance to settle into their new environment without being too stressed educationally. We have no intention of returning to the UK though.

The Reject shop and Cheap as chips are normally a much better place for this sort of thing, also don't be surprised if every 2 weeks that same can is on "special" for $4. One thing we have always found in Australia is you can't go to the shop with a list expecting everything to be the same price as last week like it is in the UK, prices are all over the place! so you just stock up on the non-perishable stuff when it's on special, and choose your proteins based on what is cheap that week You are so right about the fruit and veg as well, it also lasts much longer as well as tasting much better!
