@Sherlock  Panic over!  I got a revised queue letter today.  We’ve now got our application date as our queue date -  18/07/18.  It looks like they are amending all queue dates issued to applications made since 01/06/23.  Phew!

Fantastic news @MillieB! I'm glad they fixed the queue date for you.

@Alan Collett - Looks like this is a new development, and a good news.

Thanks.  Yes I am aware of this.  My application date is 18/07/2018 and my queue date is 10/05/21.  Two posts on different forums yesterday, said they had just received the queue date letter and had been given the application date as the queue date.  One application October 2018, queue date October 2018, ( I can’t remember the exact date.  They posted the queue letter but the post has since been deleted).  The one posted on here yesterday, is a November 2018 applicant and they have confirmed they have also been given their application date as their queue date.

My issue is that, despite applying later than me, their queue date is nearly 3 years earlier.  I’m sure this is human error, (we all make mistakes), but I’m hoping that this is noticed and rectified, so everyone is dealt with timely and fairly.

@MillieB - I also feel that it must be a human error - I strongly suggest you write to them with details (if you haven't already).

Please will you confirm that your queue date is 14/11/18 - the same as your application date?  A post on another Social Media platform stated they’d received a queue date the same as their application date - October 2018.

My queue date is 10/05/21 and my application date is 18/07/18.

Yes the queue date has been specified same as application date - 14 Nov 2018

You may want to write to them about your case. Maybe the case officer made a mistake in assigning the queue date.

  4. Whether we will see a positive outcome or not, it's important to try to do something about it. The petition has almost 51000 signatures as at 15th May 2021 10AM, and we still have 4 days more. I sincerely request you all to consider signing the petition, and convince your friends to do the same.

There’s no point. Form  80 is for the 10 years before they are actually processing it - given that it’s going to take many years it’s not worth doing.

Thanks @LindaH27. I just want to make sure my application does not geyt pushed back further just because Form 80 and 1221 are missing... all I want is a queue date now..  such small victories...

The odds are against us. But when it's about elections 1/3rd can make for a considerable force. The government started the border shut down as a temporary measure to get everything else up to speed example the quarantine system, healthcare facilities, etc to prepare for covid - but we haven't seen much progress on that front in the last year or so. The virus is here to stay. The borders cannot remain shut forever. They keep extending the timelines - all we are asking for is a roadmap. A plan as to when can people simply start going in and out to visit their families. The whole policy is entirely lacking any empathy or compassion. Also, a lot of the parents are fully vaccinated! Surely we can ask for the government to start letting them in.

I agree. While the outlook is bad and nothing seems to be happening in our (103/143 and other visa applicants and families) favour, we have to keep making noise, and keep doing something or the other to get some attention.

Yes the odds are against all of us for sure, but we can only keep trying.

  7. Question for those who have received a "queue date" (I'm guessing that their paperwork is acceptable to the dept), or those who applied for 143 and got to next steps successfully-

Did you guys submit Form 80 and Form 1221 (both related to Personal particulars for character assessment) along with the other application forms ? I'm just wondering if I should send these extra forms as well - just in case.

Any inputs would be highly appreciated!  Thank you!

    10 to 12 years!!!!

I SO wish I had got my parents' applications in earlier. We planned it ALL based on the 2.5 years timeline at that time.

A lot of people out there relying on the immigration website information would be planning their visas right now based on the 6-year timeline which is wrong again.

This is absolutely not done. I feel like crying.

@Arti - 10+ years would only be for any new applicants. Since your application is from July 2018, it will be earlier for sure (same as mine - mine was Nov 2018). So don't lose hope yet.

In fact note the comment from the dept in my post above - they are 'assessing' the application from June 2018 right now, so you may here something (about the assessment only) soon. Fingers crossed !

  9. Link to the response that I received to the FOI request I had lodged with the department recently - https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/foi/files/2021/fa-210200253-document-released.PDF

    Summary -

1 - More than 56K applications are on-hand currently (See part 3). So any new applications going forward will easily take more than 10-12 years (and not 6 years as claimed on the dept website)

2 - Part 1 shows the (slow) pace of processing the applications - number of applications processed every month.

3 - (see the small note at the end of the document) - The Department is currently assessing for a place in the queue, Contributory Parent (Permanent) (subclass 143) and Contributory Parent (Temporary) (subclass 173) visa applications that were lodged in June 2018 and is releasing from the queue for final processing applications that were lodged in May 2016.

I'd rather fight and know where I stand. I'd also rather right and prevent thousands of others paying up for something they have little chance of ever getting.

I'm with you! Rather than worrying about what whims and fancies our politicians might have, I would rather fight to make the system more transparent, and make it easier for others like me to make their life and family decisions based on the real information.

My parents are applying for a VISA 143 - Contributory Parent visa

My father is the Main applicant and my Mother is also migrating with him. They do not have any dependents; they live just by themselves. (Their only children are my brother and I, we are both Australian Citizens, not dependent).

We have completed Form 47PA and included my mothers details under 'Part F - Details of partner'

    My question is:

    - Do we need to again include my Mother's details under Part H  Question 57- 'Members of the family unit aged 18 years or over'? Do we need to complete a Form 47A  for my Mother?

I hope someone who has recently submitted an application for this Visa can help with this doubt.

    Thank you!

Hi @NATHALIA - My situation was similar to yours. No you do not have to fill 47A for your mum, because her details would come under the "Part F - Details of Partner" of the form 47PA. So the only forms applicable for you would be 47PA and 40 (Sponsorship form) and 956 (optional if you want to be the point of contact for them).

    Hope this helps.

    Contributory visa lobby group??

I refer to recent data posted and comments regarding wait times for contributory visas. There does not seem to be much evidence of lobbying on this issue.

The Migration Program is starting to plan allocations for 2021/22 and invites public submissions to inform the planning process which must be submitted by 29th January 2021. See details and submission link at

    https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/reports-and-publications/submissions-and-discussion-papers/australia-2021-22-migration-program?_ga=2.2508084.548448393.1610869697-1485230910.1610869697

I attach my submission below. Do yours today

    ————————————————

I am a parent of a newly conferred Australian citizen and have recently successfully submitted an application for contributory parent visa 143. I wish to bring to your attention the growing wait time for contributory parent visas.

At the time of my application, the wait period was just under 5 years, with applications from May 2016 having just been released for processing. The monthly number of applications awaiting processing from June 2016 to September 2020 total 55,620. On the basis of your annual allocation of parent visas (4,500), even with some attrition, this implies a wait time of over 10 years.

In the recent past the wait time was 2-3 years but has rapidly increased. I hope you will give consideration in your forthcoming Migration Program planning process to reducing the wait time to levels appropriate to the principles underpinning the contributory visas.

    ————————————————

Contributory Visa Lobby Group - exactly what I had in mind when I asked the question before... this is great stuff!

You have written a very nice and succinct submission, great work! I urge everyone else to do the same.

Let's try to do everything we can to make it easier for us and our families!

    I've written to many.

    • Julian Hill (Federal Minister for Bruce, who has been fighting to end the ridiculous need to fly offshore during a global pandemic, replied with sympathy but busy with his own constituents)
    • Peter Dutton (Federal Minister for Home Affairs - no reply aside from auto-response)
    • Alan Tudge (As suggested by someone here - no reply)
    • Mark McGowen (WA Premier - replied saying this was a federal matter - passed the book)
    • Lisa O'Malley (My local MP - no reply)

There's no way I would have applied for an offshore visa if I had known the wait times were twice as long as stated on their website. It's unclear and misleading. So much so that 2 agents (who I paid to speak with throughout the decision making process) related exactly the same information to me.

This is amazing, you've really taken lots of efforts! It's shocking to see the lack of responses from the ministers and politicians, but I can see a clear pattern there. One way would be to approach the opposition shadow ministers and MPs.. I'll look into it.
