  1. Thanks! It's been hard work. Yes, we are going with Dogtainers. [emoji190] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. We have been planning our move since we got back from our holiday to the UK at the end of July. We knew before we went that it would be the last time we would holiday there and that a move was imminent. The house has been decorated and de cluttered and is now on the market. We have got quotes from removal companies and pet transport companies. In fact we are mentally packed and ready for the off!! Just the small matter of the house sale now.....[emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Just want to recommend this company. They have been recommended before by Vinnie3004, who is back in the U.K. now. Paul came our to do our survey and was very thorough, professional and friendly. We had a our quote a few days later including an inventory listing all the items and total amount of space each item takes up, very handy if like us, you are deliberating about what to take with you. We got prices for a 20 ft and 40 ft container. The 20 ft one came in at $8810 and this included the making of a crate to house a motorbike. The 40 ft one came in at just over $13,000. We don't have a specific location yet but chose a central area, in this case West Midlands. These guys are definitely worth looking into. They are based in Perth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. We have kept our bank account open, Royal Bank of Scotland, and we get all communication mailed to us including replacement cards.
  5. Hi, we are using Reed and Indeed Jobs. Also worth googling recruitment agencies that specialise in you particular field. Good luck!
  6. Hi, there is a MoneyCorp advert on the home page of PIO and they have a currency converter on there so you can see what you will get. We used HI FX when we bought a car over from the UK and it was a larger sum to transfer. You would get a much better exchange rate with these two rather than through your bank I would think.

  8. Hi @suesmalls, yes we are returning Brits and for all of the reasons that people usually post here, I won't go into detail as I know you read a lot of the posts so will understand what I mean. We are the same age as you so starting again is somewhat daunting. Especially with a 13 and 11 year old! With regard to furniture we are going to get this next quote and then decide if we could buy new furniture with the money we would save on either shipping the lot or just our personal belongings if you understand what I mean! I will let you know about Chess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Hi @suesmalls, yes we have had 3 quotes, although only 2 have been to do a house visit, the other one I just requested a quote based on the volume of belngings that the other companies said we had! The first quote was for just over $14k for a 40ft container, the second came in at just over $11k. The third was based on a 20 ft container which was around $8k. Also we have had a quote for just taking personal possessions which would be based on a shared container for around $4k. I am hoping that Chess will come in with a quote like the OP had and then we can take most of our furniture, even the big stuff with us! Yes we are in Perth and we are moving ASAP, when the house sells really! Home open this weekend! I will let you know how the Chess quote goes.
  10. Got Paul coming out to do our quote on Monday. Hope it is like yours then it will be much better than the others we have had! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Thanks Marisa. He is in the construction industry so will be looking at Senior Project/Contracts manager roles. He did 20 yrs plus in the UK in this field and obviously the 9 out here. We had thought of contacting a smaller recruitment agency in our area of choice to get his name/Resume out there but obviously we would have to tell them that the house has just gone on the market and just to keep him in mind for future roles. He would be prepared to fly over if he could get a few interviews lined up but not just for one! We thought that might be the case with rentals, paying up front. Do you know if we will still have a credit rating if we have kept our bank account open? Thanks!
  13. So, the parents have been told (see my previous post!) and they are very happy, just as I knew they would be! They were always very supportive of us coming here and I was just worried that they would worry about us going back and in effect starting again! Our house is up for sale so step 1 is underway. Anyway my real question is about rental property and then best way to go about things. We have kept our UK bank accounts so we have no problems there but we are not sure how to go about getting a rental property. If we decide to go before my husband has a job will we be able to get a rental based on the fact that we will have evidence of capital in the bank? Or will a long term holiday rental be the answer? How easy is it to get a job whilst still here? I am thinking interviews etc and is it best to let the house sale go through before you start to seriously apply for jobs. What have other people done? Any advice welcomed, thanks!
  14. Thanks princessoz. Yes, we have had a wonderful adventure and our children have had some great experiences and have grown into confident children who are happy to socialise with anyone. I think that we have tried to keep the dream alive for too long though and there are things that we want them to experience in England which they were too young to appreciate before. You definitely canno beat English scenery, that is for sure!!
  15. He wants to move back too. He has just turned 13 so we need to go sooner rather than later. We should have gone 3 years ago when we started to get the feeling that we wouldn't stay.
  16. Going to tell my parents tonight that we are hoping to move back to the UK. A bit scared about this as we have been gone for 9 years and feel now that we have taken their grand children away from them for so long, all for nothing. They were 4 and 2 when we left!! We are no longer happy here and have to make the move back, for very similar reasons that others post on here, sense of belonging, history, culture, family and friends. We definitely enjoyed our first few years here but know that we cannot stay here any longer. we know that people will have moved on without us but would basically rather be in the UK then be so unhappy here! Wish me luck!!
  17. I am pretty sure that bubble wrap was used, but it was a long time ago! Nothing at all was broken on the way over though so they must have packed it all very well.
  18. We used AP nine years ago, they were excellent. Unpacked everything at this end and placed in correct rooms and took away all of the boxes/rubbish.
