  1. Has your container arrived yet? We have PSS coming to pack our house up a week today! feel slightly under prepared - did you pack up all your clothes for them? I presumed they would do all this! I presume they pack and wrap all the delicate stuff to make sure it's packed properly? Good luck xxx
  2. Hi all, does anyone have any advice on what to do with life insurance/assurance when emigrating to oz? We both have a policy in the uk and have asked if it is still valid when living in oz (I would presume not!) did anyone just cancel their policy in the uk and then just take one out on arrival in oz? thanks in anticipation ! S&S
  3. Totally clear - thought so, just a quick check thanks!!!
  4. Thanks all. Sorry to be so needy, but does this look like it covers everything?? Our quotation is based on the enclosed list of items and an estimated volume not exceeding 750 cubic feet loaded into one 20' GP container at your residence and includes:- Professional export packing at your residence of the items detailed on the enclosed list, utilising export packing materials and cartons. Numbering and listing of all packages for customs requirements. Placing items into your Bridgend storage unit Transportation of the ocean container to your Bridgened storage unit at a later date, loading household effects, sealing container and return to shipping line terminal. UK & destination Port/Terminal handling charges. Ocean Freight to arrival vessel destination port/terminal. Customs Clearance, haulage of container and unloading. Delivery of Household effects to residence as specified above, unwrapping and removal of packing materials at the time of delivery (assumes good access and not above first floor or ground floor in USA). They also talk about an indemnity fee to guard against external container cleaning in customs, but it doesn't make it sound like this is very likely to be needed? thoughts??
  5. Ok, so complete disclaimer - this might be a ridiculous question! We have had our families Skilled - Independent (subclass 189) visa granted and have been busy organising the move. It suddenly dawned on me that we might need to 'accept' the visa, is this the case at all? or do we just turn up at the airport with the printed paperwork and it is all processed at the time of arrival? I know we have a certain amount of time to arrive in oz to validate it, just checking that we do not need to do anything from this end?! Thanks helpful people
  6. The quote we were going to go with was PSS - just over £4K with them having to come twice to pack and then collect at a later date. 20' container. From looking at other posts that sounds about right do you think? they did try to sell to crates but if the tv is Insured I don't see the need for crates anyway? Yep we have checked and letton will cover the time in storage, for a few obviously! Thank you for the help
  7. Thanks yes we have a quote from letton, but noticed today that they might give a discount to forum members? Is that true?
  8. Hi everyone we are in the process of confirming payment / contract with PSS as the quote seems reasonable for what we are asking for (they are packing the house, putting the stuff into storage and then returning at a later date to pack and ship) i was just just wondering if it's standard to have to pay everything up front? The whole balance before they come to pack the house up? also - has anyone got any advice on any pitfalls, things to double check with the quote? Bit worried about committing to such a huge payment just like everyone else I guess! Many thanks simon and sian x
  9. Is mould damage normally covered with shipping insurance? I take it from this thread that it is better to get insurance from a third party rather than the shipping company? for cost reasons and better if there is reason to claim? Many thanks
  10. Benj1980 - thats very reassuring!
  11. Yes we will - luckily we have friends in the area we intend to rent so will hopefully be getting our girls into the same schools as them
  12. Thank you so much everyone for the replies. Looks like this is one less thing to worry about in the build up to the big move to Perth!
  13. Hi all, We are lucky enough to have our 189 VISA granted and are planning on moving over to Perth December/January in time for the new school year to begin in February. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or experience trying to get a school place sorted for a little one before moving to the other side of the world!? We are fairly certain on the area we want to settle as it is close to family and friends, but that still depends on available rentals etc. I am presuming we have to try to get something sorted before the schools break up in December but am really unsure how to go about this and would love some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Many thanks
  14. Thanks, we also are looking to move a 3 bed house but haven't decided on specifics. We were going to move kitchen table and chairs/sofas/beds but interested in what you said about wood. Does the ban on wood relate to the company you used or is it a general rule? Bit worried now!
  15. Hi all, We submitted our visa application on the 26th Jan (189), had our medicals last week and finished uploading all the information and we have had conformation of our VISA today! Hope everyone else has had some luck too??
  16. Ok, so this might be a bit trivial in the grand scheme of things, but... We have just been granted our 189 visa and are starting to get organised with packing etc. Boxes seem to range in quality and price quite a bit on the internet. Does anyone have a company/brand that they would recommend? Good quality and affordable? Many thanks!!
  17. Thank you so much both! Nice to have clear answers! Less stress now :-) out of interest paige03, did you apply with children? They have asked for a polic check for my 3 yr old but not for my husband! I'm presuming it's a mistake and am going to get polic checks for the adults only!
  18. Hi everyone, i appreciate this has been asked a load of times before but I couldn't find an up to date answer. We we are in the process of uploading documents for our CO to assess (189 visa). I cannot l work out if I can get a solicitor to certify documents (passport etc) as I would normally, or if it has to be a justice of the peace or notary instead? What has everyone else done? Surely a regular solicitor is ok? The other option is on is to upload good quality colour copies instead, will this do for all documents? Many thanks for for all your help. This is the first stress we have had with the whole process! Regards, sian and simon
  19. Can anyone say if normal certification of documents is ok through a solicitor? In the process of uploading documents for my application but it says they have to be verified by a justice of the peace or a notary?!
  20. Thanks Duke, So you just scanned all the original documents in colour and didn't worry about certifying them? It makes more sense to do that rather than certifying a document just to scan it in. Have you booked your health assessment yet? Did it say you had 28 days to respond to the letter.request for further information? Did you take that as you had 28 days to get everything done and uploaded? Thanks for your help
  21. That would make things a lot easier! I hope that's the case. I presume if they were not happy they would request different information? Also, they have asked for a police check and functional English for my 3 year old but not for my husband. Is that likely to be a mistake? Seems a bit odd to me!
  22. Hi all, hoping to to get some info from all you knowledgeable people! We we have been assigned a CO and documents have been requested. We have just started on form 80 - I can't remember all the travel I have done in the past ten years! Have most people done a 'best guess' with that kind of information? also, we have had all our documents certified by a solicitor as we normally would in the uk. But the wording on the form states that they need to be certified by a notary or justice of the peace. Is that just different language in oz or will a solicitor not be adequate? Is is there A maximum timescale for getting all the stuff uploaded?? many thanks. Slightly stressed by it all!! sian and Simon xx
  23. Hi all, We have just submitted our Visa application (189) and have started looking at places to have the medical assessment. On the Aus gov page there does not seem to be many options! There is one in Cardiff that charges £312 for adults and £95 for under 11's. Does that sound reasonable? Do people generally start uploading documents straight away? It doesn't say any of them are mandatory at present. Thank you Simon and Sian
  24. Thanks Rammy so the main things is making sure the visa is 'complete' within the 60 day timeframe. Sorry to ask for you to spell it out but... what does it consist of to complete the application? is it the online application minus the medical and police checks? What about form 80? when does that have to be submitted? The way I am understanding it is that you have to complete the bare bones of the application within 60 days and then add to it with your supporting application after this. is that about right? when do they ask for payment? Thank you so much!
  25. Hi all, apologies for posting what has probably been asked a million times! We have been invited to apply for our families Visa (subclass 189) and as you know it says you have 60 days. My question is.. is it 60 days to start/trigger the process, or 60 days to complete the application and submit? Obviously would need time to get everything sorted, have medicals etc so need to know if we are in a rush or not! We want to move to Perth December 2017 so are in no major rush but would like it sorted! On the note of medicals, is it just a case of ringing around private hospitals to get prices or is there a central database? Many thanks
