xD seriously, much easier to go for a walk or a run or a cycle ride in the UK than in Oz, played a lot of golf last year and only had to put my waterproofs on about 3 times.

xD haha bloody fair weather golfers, I’m not talking about Oz in general but Perth in particular has weather which suits those that enjoy the outdoors, much better climate than the UK.

I love hot weather here dont get me wrong but i have to say the lifestyle in the UK means you spend more time walking to get to places. Since living in OZ i have put on 30kg and never ever spend time outside. I long for the UK so i can walk and actually have a garden i could enjoy. I was there in Nov and it wasnt bad at all expected far worse!

I guess you are not in Perth we spend so much more time outdoors here due to the fantastic climate Perth has. Used to hate the UK weather always found it hindered those that enjoyed spending time outdoors.

That's what a UK winter should look like.

  6. For anyone considering areas to live when moving back this may be helpful, you can check if NHS trusts are hitting targets for A&E, cancer operations and planned Operations, to be fair most areas I checked seemed to be hitting targets for cancer operations which is good, however very few seem to be hitting A&E targets and planned ops.

I couldn't find any trusts that hit all there targets but only checked a few. Scotland is the only place I'd consider living in the UK if I was to ever move back but not a single Scottish trust hits all there targets unfortunately.

I have just shown this to an Australian colleague of mine and they said "is this person for real??"

We have come to the conclusion that these comments are fishing for an argument. O.o

I'm more than happy with the travel options I have living in Perth.

Couldn't help replying yeah alright who's the one fishing for an argument

Well..work took me round quite a few places in Australia, true they weren't all the same, but they were all sort of similar.  My own observations were that Sydney just looked like a very grotty, run down, more crammed, overcrowded, tired and outdated version of Perth .  Adelaide was even more quieter that Perth.    That's nothing negative, if you love a quiet slow life (and many young parents and older people do) , a bit of a home bird, don't go out much or venture much further than your local Coles or cafe's and you're not interested in travelling anywhere, you cant beat Adelaide or Perth and no doubt many other places out there, you are going to be just fine.   We go away most weekends all over UK and we nip over to Europe on our leave days, the variety of life and freedom we enjoy here in UK is very important to us.

You talk about being 'a bit of a home bird' but you are the one that's headed 'home' bit ironic really.

Oh!  can I ask what it was that made you realise you'd made a mistake?  (if not too personal..).

Oh lots of reasons really, whatever I put on here a couple of the usual posters will come along and try and counter it so I won't go into to much detail, all I will say is I feel the UK is on a downward spiral and it's gone past the point of no return, it's not somewhere I wanted to bring up my children. Plenty of others do though. I also felt a level of claustrophobia after spending sometime in Canada and Australia.

    Good luck with your move.

Have you returned to UK Sandgroper, or are you still in Oz?  Sounds as if you've experienced returning home in the winter. ??

I did return from OZ but not during winter having been brought up in the UK I know the UK weather well enough, however I quickly realised we had made a mistake and moved back out to Oz and have never been happier.

Patience never was my strong point I'm afraid.  We thought we'd be back in England for Christmas.  But must say, feeling very positive now it's a new year and they took lots of new photos of the house for the internet ad.  Here's hoping..

Trust me you will appreciate arriving in late spring/Summer break you in slowly B|

Hi Sandgroper, yes, you're quite right.  It's certainly realistically priced and we'll negotiate if need be.  There haven't been many houses sold recently in our town.  Agent is hopeful that with Christmas over with and warm weather in play we may have more luck.

Yeah things certainly quiet down over the Christmas period, at least if not a lot local has been selling in general it's not something you are doing wrong, just need to hold on for a bit.

I havent read that but i did read they were sending firemen with basic medical training to accidents / incidents that they are not trained for due to no ambulances/ paramedics being available.

    Cal x

I read something similar but it was nurses travelling in ambos due to paramedics not being readily available.
