  1. Hi there South Chick My son lives in Berwick and it's a great area. good schools, train station and a very friendly community..I love the whole area, close to the Dandenong Ranges which is very beautiful, Pakenham not too far away either, a big mall at Narre Warren for everything ..I absolutely love Melbourne ...we are currently in Sydney which is lovely but not very affordable, hoping to move to Melbourne or Brisbane
  2. Hi Everyone Just wondering what the area's of Varsity Lakes and Robina are like to live in Good or bad reports please
  3. Thanks for your advice, what area's could you recommend, we can be anywhere, as my husband works all over the country, we are in our early fifties, we love the beach, cafe's and restaurants. We also don't have a huge budget to spend up to about 450k but we don't want apartment living
  4. Hey Everyone Anybody know anything about the above area's, we are looking at house and land packages..Any advice please good or bad
  5. Well here is a positive story Love Brisbane, it's awesome... I really don't know where people have given you the impression of being stuck in the 1970's, it's a beautiful city, great shopping, lovely restaurants and bar's and near to some of the world's most beautiful beaches, what more can you ask for. Stay away from negative thought's from people, it just drags you down, and makes you doubt your own views. Good luck with everything
  6. Hello Birch4 My husband is an electrician and we are from Yorkshire originally but have lived in NZ for the last 13 years until coming to OZ 2 years ago, my husbands NZ electrical licence allowed him to get his full licence's here in OZ, it's a very straight forward procedure from NZ. But can I just say when we first moved to NZ in order to get his NZ electrical licence he had to go to night school to do a course (yes Night School and $3,000 later, which we were not told about), just so that you are aware... We are also moving to the North Lakes soon, private message us if you need anymore info Good luck with everything, it's a mind field at times

    Berwick

I'm going to be living in Berwick, anyone on here keen to meet up for a coffee or wine let me know I will be working in the city but have a day off in the week and I don't work weekends
  8. hi everyone I start my new job in Collingwood in a few weeks and we are looking to buy a house, which area's will be good maximum price is 500k Cheers for now
  9. Hey Everyone When I visit my son who lives in Berwick I have used a hairdresser's called Toma's, they are on the same street which leads down to the train station and opposite the Indian Takeaway (in the old court building)...Also I have used one in Eltham as this is where my friend lives, its the one near that book shop/café just at the back of an arcade..Hope this helps, can recommend both places
  10. Thank you for that rosiew, that's awesome to have that information..Many Thanks
  11. Hi Yes I do remember and thank you for your message, I seem to remember you are on the Peninsular, is that right?? I am not going to have a car to start with are you walking distance to the train station..Everywhere I have looked at is so expensive for short term or they want a 12 month lease, I don't want to do that really..The dates could probably work for me, I would just have to stay with my son for a couple of weeks, but he has flat mates, so not ideal really..Anyway what do you charge again?? Can I confirm with you tomorrow... I am almost at the point of heading back to NZ, as I have had enough, but I know deep down that it will be the wrong decision
  12. And another dilemma I have is getting short term accommodation at a reasonable price, I start my new job in Collingwood in a week and still can't find anything reasonable without having to sign a 12 month lease and I don't want to do that really...Any suggestions anyone, I am getting pretty desparate
  13. Thanks Petals Do you know if Sunbury has a train station, or plans to have one if not??? What do you know about the area in general, we like peace and quiet, a little bit country, with main facilities, and were not fussed about eating out heaps, we would go into the city maybe once a month or so Cheers for now
  14. Suzukiscottie Thanks for your reply, yes I am finding the whole thing rather stressful too be honest...Doreen seems to have quite a lot of local shops there, and I guess will get better as time goes on, not too far to Eltham which is nice. We are currently living in Sydney and I can't wait to leave this place, beautiful but damn expensive. I have seriously thought about not accepting the job and moving to Brisbane which is so much cheaper then Melbourne and Sydney
  15. hey everyone I was asking the other week about Victoria vs Queensland..Anyway spent last week in Melbourne (son lives there), I have been offered a job in Melbourne (Collingwood area). Myself and hubby just so shocked by the house prices, it's almost unaffordable, even earning good money to buy a house in a nice area. I almost at the point to turn down the job and go to Brisbane where it is cheaper to buy a home. We have looked at places like Doreen, Mernda..no train station there as yet. However been told that Mernda is opening soon, still bloody expensive and still a commute to work. We are in our late fourties both of us so don't want to take on a massive mortgage now, we can afford up to around $460,000 k, and that's probably the max too be honest.. Really don't know what to do Any suggestions

    How far out?

OMG your doggies are so fricking cute Even your local vet should be able to advise you how far in advance...Good Luck
  17. Hi movingback, My hubby's company know that our son lives there, my hubby travels to Melbourne and Brisbane very regular with his job, he is an engineer. Yes we can afford to buy a nice house in a good area in Melbourne, just cannot do it here in Sydney. I have asked hubby to tell his boss about the situation but I just have a feeling that they are going to be awkward about it, I can't turn this job down really it's taken me this long to get a permanent job..And we can't be paying 2 rent's out either, Sydney and Melbourne, as we will have to rent in Melbourne short term until we can buy a house. Very frustrating, and I am sick of renting it's doing my head in
  18. Hey Everyone, Iv'e posted on here a couple of times before. My hubby's job is here in Sydney at the moment, however the company has said we can relocate, as we can't afford to buy a house here (Company has expressed a preference for Brisbane), however I have been offered a good job in Melbourne, our son lives in Melbourne too. I did really like Brisbane when we visited a few weeks ago, but I do have a worry about the heat there and humidity, I really struggle here in Sydney. Of course house's are cheaper in Brisbane but there just doesn't seem to be the job opportunities there. Do I accept the job in Melbourne knowing that this is going to probably piss off, my husband's employer or what, also this has taken me nearly 12 month's to get a job too, I'm 50 next year and I need to get back into the workforce. I don't really know what to do..Thoughts anyone
  19. My son lives in Berwick and it's a lovely area, people really friendly, nice cafe's and a couple of nice restaurants. It has a lovely village feel to the place, a nice house depending on what you are looking for mind will be about 500-550k, and that is recent, as myself and hubby are looking. Berwick has a train station (Pakenham Line) into the city, it takes about 50 minutes into Flinder's Street. I would say you will need a car living there as even though there are bus's they are not frequent enough. I can't help on school's sorry as my son is in his late twenties..Hope this help's in some way
  20. Yikes, I kind of thought you might say that. I have only visited Queensland on holiday, never lived there, and I hate it when it get's too hot. This is why I am thinking Melbourne may be better for us climate wise, also the job situation for me might be better too.
  21. Hey there Make sure you have your electrical licence from energy safe Victoria, no one will look at you without it Good Luck
  22. Thanks guys, I have moved over from NZ just over a year ago and I am in Sydney, have been for about 15-16 month's now. (But I am a Yorkshire Lass) I love Melbourne, the shopping, the dining out, the countryside etc etc..Oh and our son lives there, absolute bonus on that one, (however we don't know he will stay there, he's in his mid twenties I have only ever visited Melbourne and Brisbane, never lived there. So I have been to Melbourne in the winter time and was very surprised by how cold it is, however that doesn't worry me too much. But hubby loves the beaches of Queensland On the other hand, a few weeks ago I went to Brisbane to check it out, and wow I loved it, the beaches, the weather, house's way more affordable than Melbourne and Sydney. I was rather concerned about the humidity in Queensland, but it's pretty bad here in Sydney too in the summer, so will it be any worse ?? Hubby can transfer with his job you see, but we are in our late fourties and don't really want to shift again now after this until retirement, so trying to choose wisely Thoughts???
  23. Hey Everyone Just wondering if anyone has lived in both states and prefer's one over the other, what's your reason for this?? Cheers and have a great day
  24. Thanks for that Cal, I had never even looked at that area. This is one of the reason's I enjoy this site, so helpful and honest. Much appreciated
  25. We are looking at living at Bribie Island, as my hubby can base himself anywhere, and I will be working near North Lakes, I know that's a bit of a commute but I don't mind, too be able to live in a wonderful place, I'm so excited
