  1. Thanks guys, really useful hint's there. Our kids are grown up and don't live at home, so we don't want somewhere that is full of little kids running around or noisy teenager's for that matter,( been there done that ) a nice relaxed lifestyle is what we are looking for, close to the beach . I am in my late fourties and hubby just gone 50. We do enjoy going out and socialising too. I haven't secured work as yet, my hubby work's all the country
  2. Hello Everyone I am just wondering if anyone know's anything about these area's, good or bad, I don't mind. I am currently living in NSW and we are moving to Brisbane, hubby work's all over the country and will be having a lot of new work in North Brisbane area ie North Lakes etc. What's Burpengary like, Ningi, Sandstone Point like ???? Cheers for now
  3. Thanks everyone, much appreciated
  4. Hey there everyone Anyone on here know anything about Banksia Beach...Just come back from a trip up there, had a good look around different area's and quite liked this little gem of a place?? Any thoughts anyone, good or bad
  5. Hello there We are flying to Brisbane tomorrow to check out the area,( In Brisbane for a week), then hopefully if all is well we will move up by April this year
  6. Hi Flagofconvenience We are Kiwi Citizens but originally from the UK, lived in NZ for 12 years before my hubby was head hunted for a job here. I am happy we have been given the opportunity to come to Australia. New Zealand is a beautiful country and I love it, but very hard to earn good money, but I guess if it doesn't pan out for us here in OZ we can return to NZ
  7. Hi there, myself and hubby looking to move to North Lakes, we live in NSW at the moment. I am originally from the UK but lived in New Zealand for 13 years until last year. My kids are in their twenties and leading their own lives, one lives in NZ and the other in Melbourne. I am in my late fourties but by no mean's do I look it lol..hubby was 50 last year, we love to go out restaurants, BBq's, outdoor stuff and just enjoy life really. I am visiting Brisbane next week for a look around to see what we think about the area etc Cheers
  8. Hi there, I have joined the facebook group for North Lakes and they are great. We haven't moved there as yet, still in NSW but looking to move into North Lakes, both of our children are in their twenties and leading their own lives, with one in NZ and the other living in Melbourne. I am from Yorkshire originally but have lived in NZ for 13 years until last year
  9. Sydney is lovely city, however it is very very expensive place to either rent or buy a house?? The traffic is horrendous, almost 2 hours to get from one side of the city to the other..I personally will be glad to leave Sydney this year, but everyone to their own I guess
  10. Don't do it..Stay Put!! I have been in Sydney for just over a year now, Yes beautiful city but off the scale expensive. I am currently renting a small 2 bedroom unit in Western Sydney and hate it with a passion..Can't wait to move on in 2016 It's not all a bed of roses over here..really do think about it
  11. Thanks everyone, Hubby and myself went to Pakenham at the weekend and DID NOT like the area at all, even if the prices are cheaper there not for me at all. We don't have a massive budget under 500k AUD, maybe we just have to get a smaller house but in a better area, I hate the word compromise but that's life isn't it. I do like the hills area of Emerald, Cockatoo but worried about bush fires and stuff. Been through the massive earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand and that just knocked the stuffing out of me and made me very nervous of insurance companies too. We had a drive out to the Mornington Peninsular did like it but not sure about time frame my hubby getting to the airport etc?? Bloody hell..Flipping nightmare
  12. Hey there everyone Just moved to Victoria and staying with my son, we are looking at area's to buy a house. What is Pakenham like does anyone know on here??
  13. Hello Petals, thanks for the information much appreciated, my really good friends live around the Eltham area, and our son lives in Berwick, so we are looking at both area's too be honest, however Eltham is very expensive though. We don't have small children, both of our kids are in their twenties now and leading their own lives. I have never even thought about the peninsular as I thought it would be very expensive. I am in Melbourne for a visit in a couple of weeks so I will go and have a look there.
  14. Thanks Quinkla mmmm, the more I think about it, the more I think it's not a good call, also heard re sale could be an issue out there too
  15. Hello amibovered, I don't know anything about Packenham..any suggestions??
  16. Oh by the way, I am currently living in Sydney and the traffic is horrendous here, love the city but affordability is out of the question
  17. Hello amibovered Funny you should say that about Mernda/ Doreen my hubby said the same thing when he visited the area this week, too be honest they don't really float my boat either but it is affordability that is driving us , sadly the lack of facilities out there do concern me slightly. Our son lives in Berwick which is a nice area, with a nice village feel, and a train station too. I guess we can't have everything in life, and have to settle for what we can afford without being married to your mortgage, if you get what I mean. Many thanks for your advice
  18. Hello Petal's Thank you for your information. I have been thinking about looking at a suburb that already has a train station too, I am a little weary about what the real estate agents say. I did quite like Doreen, but the lack of amenities out there does slightly concern me, I am not working at present so doesn't matter at this stage, however if I were to get a job in the city then that would be a real hassle from out there. I really like Eltham but the prices there are scary as hell. So perhaps out towards Berwick may be a good idea. Thanks
  19. Hello amibovered I love Eltham, my good friend lives there, but sadly the house prices are out of our budget, same goes for Research, so that is why we were looking at Doreen, I have heard that there is going to be a train station in Mernda within the next couple of years. My son lives in Berwick, and we do like it there and there is a train station there too, which is good, but again it is a little pricey for a nice house. Do you know anything about Doreen???

    Me again

Just trawling through the mammoth task of searching properties on the web... We have decided on a move to Melbourne, locations are Berwick Doreen Mernda Can anyone else suggest any where else either out on the Packenham train line or out towards Eltham...Must be close to a train station, or good bus service to the train station. My hubby has company car, so it doesn't matter which side of the city we are on, I don't work as yet, wanting to get settled in a house first before I look for work. Cheers for now
  21. Just a thought also, does anyone on here who lives in Melbourne, know of any short term accommodation, preferably furnished and will allow me to bring my dog. All of our furniture is in storage in Sydney, as we are living in a furnished unit here. This will hopefully just be for 2- 3 months until we buy a house. Thanks
  22. Hello jumpingjilly bean, We lived in Christchurch, NZ, however we are both from England. We have been to Yeppoon on holiday, it was lovely but I couldn't live there, Rockhampton was nice too but again not enough going off for me, and the heat would drive me mad in the summer. We visited Yeppoon in October and it was 35+ degrees then, and it's not even summer time then. And the humidity was insane, it's bad enough here in NSW in the summer too. So no we wouldn't consider a move there, and I do travel to NZ to visit my daughter and you can't get cheap flights from up there either, where as either Sydney or Melbourne, it's a direct flight to Auckland. Thanks anyway
  23. Hello KiwiKaye I do miss NZ a lot, however could not return to Christchurch after going through those horrific earthquakes, our daughter lives in a small rural town on the North Island, which is lovely but no good for us we have to be a big city for work etc, and I personally don't like Auckland ( and it's very expensive too, so is Wellington). A lot of my kiwi friends have settled in Melbourne, as they say it reminds them of home. I have't been to Frankston nor have I heard of it lol. Good luck with your move
  24. Thank you everyone for your comments. We would never have left Christchurch, NZ if it wasn't for the earthquakes, (we have been to most of NZ both North & South Island) we loved it there, but my husband was made redundant from his job in Christchurch, and he was head hunted for a job here in Sydney, he worked for this company in the UK too. We have decided to go to Melbourne, as I have a lot of good friends there, and also my son lives there, my husband can relocate with the company he works for, so a no win situation in our eyes. We have found Berwick to be rather affordable, and only 40 minutes on the train to the city, that's nothing after living in Sydney and being from the UK. And my husband has to travel all over the country anyway, so it doesn't really matter where about's we are in Melbourne.
  25. Hello Buzzy Bee Thank you for your reply. We are more swayed towards Melbourne as our son lives there, and I have good friends there too. I don't like the heat too much either, so I would be worried about that living in Brisbane too be honest. Been a true Yorkshire lass, the weather doesn't worry me to much, i like the seasons, which is why we loved NZ (before the earthquakes mind). We have been looking at suburbs like Berwick and Doreen, not sure if yoy know anything about these area's or not. I do love Melbourne it's a great city
