  1. OMG I'm the same. I've worked with my company for 3 years and they've given me all sorts of opportunities so i know how you feel. But I've just got to do this. Hate being stuck in the same boring life at the minute. I've told them that I'm thinking about going and will confirm it with them when i've booked my flight. Luckily my managers are pretty cool. Ah that's good luck then, definitley with a 10 bed dorm. Sometimes i think they would be better as they're bigger and less chance of one person conistently annoying you lol. I hope i get a good bunch of people. My friend was extremely lucky. She met loads of people but she met 5 when she was in her first hostel that she spent most of her time with and travelled all over with.
  2. I'd say do it Stacie :-) sounds like you have a plan, the excitement of booking your flight will spur you to save. I'm booking mine at the end of the month/beginning of next and I don't go until January. I know that if I know my flights booked I HAVE to save, no ifs or buts lol :-) also, In reply to you other post. I know what you mean :-) I don't want to spend forever in a hostel either, I like my own space lol I'm looking for someone to houseshare with eventually and I suppose friendships aren't made in a few days so I'm looking at a but longer in them lol
  3. Im booking two weeks straight off just to be safe and plus I know jet lag will kick my ass for the first few days, if not the first week and I don't want to be stressing for the first, I can take my time  Im also booking a cheap hotel for the first two nights to just sleep lol but that's just personal preference :-) I don't want to be a grumpy tired when I meet everyone and know ill just want to sleep, in private, when I land lol
  4. My plan is to finish off next year with the NY celebrations in Sydney and fly back from there . Not yet, I'm booking at the end of the month theres still a lot available around that time as everyone is leaving sydney around then lol
  5. Thanks guys I think I've definitely made my decision. Singapore it is :-). It's £140 which is currently about $280, which could go into savings for when I arrive so just wanted to make sure :-)
  6. Ahh cool. Good plan. I'm the same haha it's only the money that's keeping me back! Can't wait.
  7. 25 hours Singapore. 36 hours Garuda but the times make it possible for a hotel stopover... All depends on the hotel price as to whether it would be worth it. Thinking I'm still going to go Singapore, I'm a slightly nervous flyer that hasn't flew for longer than 4hrs 15mins so might feel more comfortable with a company I had previously heard good things about.
  8. Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has flown with Garuda Airlines? I was certain I was going to fly with Singapore, the reviews speak for themselves, but Garuda is currently coming in at £140 cheaper?! just wondering what people's opinions are? Thanks :-)
  9. Thanks for the advice :-) I just want to go everywhere, I think that's my problem haha
  10. Im starting off in Sydney on a 'Holiday' of sorts then I'm going to go wherever my feet take me
  11. Im heading there at the beginning of January around about the 4th. I'm so excited too!!! You staying in Sydney or travelling around?
  12. No worries lol. I do have a baby face. I actually looked older at 18 than I do now, my ex used to say I had a case of the Benjamin Buttons haha. Yeah seems like there is a few of us so won't be too bad.
  13. haha I'll be 25 when I go too but will turn 26 a few weeks later... worried ill be seen as ancient lol
  14. Yeah I think it's a good budget if you're not planning on blowing it all immediately. I will indeed :smile:hopefully i'll be able to give you all some advice and tips! It's great to speak to some people that are currently at the same stage as me. Some people on here have a lot of knowledge- Stacie for example lol  Ahhh I'm so excited, just want to go now!
  15. Hi Ryan, I'm leaving in January and will also be taking £3-4k. It sound to me like you've got it all planned which is great. The good thing with having a set timescale is that you have something to work towards. It's all so exciting. I'm planning on hitting sydney for two weeks for a 'holiday' so to speak and then going wherever the work is lol. I'm trying not to plan too much for after touchdown because I know so many people that have been and say their plans changed. Everyone's different though ?
  16. Yeah I saw it was a year. Aw bless. Suppose you can just re apply, just a shame to lose it hey
  17. ohhh dear. Naughty you haha. Yeah I heard they were that quick but didn't think It would be, I was surprised!!
  18. Wow- that was fast! Applied for my visa at 11.30 am today and it was granted at 13.10. Didn't even take two hours!! So happy...! And the journey starts  So glad I didn't pay anyone to do it for me... It was so simple!
  19. Cool, thanks for the info , I'm definitely going to fly to Sydney and then I think I'm just going to see where the journey takes me. Gonna try not to plan too much now. Things will always change haha
  20. Sounds like a trick to me. You can definitely get a job before you enter Australia, you just can't get a tax file number till you get there! Haven't had any experience with that company though I'm afraid
  21. Thanks guys, I think I'm going to fly to Sydney, spend a few weeks, then go to Melbourne for a few months. Then head to Brisbane or Adelaide for winter. Definitely flying into Sydney first though :-)
  22. Yeah you'll be fine on $2500 . Some people just go crazy as soon as they land lol. Yeah I dont think I'll be going for the cheapest, anything that gets me there in less than 24 hours is a bonus. The one I've been looking at is with Phillippine Air for about £560. I've not heard much about them to be fair. I'm thinking maybe Singapore Airlines or China Southern. We'll see what prices are like when i book. Ahh how exciting. I cant wait to be there!! if i had the money i'd go as soon as my visa was granted haha. x
  23. haha no problem about the long post, it's great to hear from someone that is going through the same! Oh wow, I wanted to fly with Emirates but they are quite expensive around the time I want to go. The cheapest is Christmas day but the accomodation over New Year is ridiculously expensive or there is hardly any left and what is left is not great haha. So I'm looking to fly out on the 4th Jan. How much did your flight cost if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking to take $5000-$6000 dollars, depending on how well my saving goes lol. I'm a bit like you, I'm not bothered too much about the money, I want to enjoy every bit! I know someone who went out with about $1000 in their pocket and is still out there now(1 and a half years later) and doing pretty well. Not that i would suggest doing that... lol. He did have a struggle to start off with. Aww and your going with your boyfriend, that's so nice. Yep, going on my own, just got bored of day to day life. Will be looking to meet new people, so we should meet up if we land in the same place at the same time :-) x
  24. Haha yes, I want the holiday feeling first. I'm not going to till the beginning of January, got some saving to do first but I like to be prepared, looking to book my flights in the next two months and I'm applying for my visa on Friday-- Eeeek! the next 7 months best fly by. You excited to be off in September then? x
