  1. Hang in there folks. We have been here 18 months now and nothing beats being able to have the grandkids over for a sleepover! All the stress and anxiety is def worth it in the end
  2. Hi my friend has just done this. She lodged the 804 in Australia while on the e visa and wS put on a bridging visa straight away no medical now but will have one when they are put in the queue which will be between 12- 18 months time Hope this helps.
  3. Hi Kim I must say we have had a lot of ups and downs since moving over probably fair to say more downs than ups but I am hoping (fingers crossed) that we have moved into the more ups than downs stage!. My 13 year old son is finding it very hard to settle and still wants to go back. He misses his friends dreadfully and has struggled to make new ones but this last fortnight seems to have made some friends so am hoping he is now on an up! Have really struggled to get work but Clive (my husband) started work last week and had his first pay today so we can now eat!!! I am still looking for work here in Perth there are at least 300 applicants for most jobs so it is very hard to get your foot through the door but I have managed to get as far as interviews twice so am sure I will get something it just takes time. Clive and I love living here but getting used to the Australian way of doing things is proving very frustrating! But living near the children and grandchildren is worth all the aggro and having family days out is so good. It has turned colder now but we don't find it too bad as we are not totally accclimatised yet but am starting to think about a heater esp for the bathroom as it is freezing when you get out of the shower. Would love to meet up with you when you visit in September so let me know when you are over and we can arrange to get together. Linda
  4. Hang on in there Kim. Keep strong and I am sure you will manage to get it sorted. I remember clearly how stressful it all is but now with your added complications it must be pushing you very near the edge. Keep positive and fingers crossed for you all. Linda
  5. Hi Joe you must have had a jobs worth. We got our temporary card with no problems and then when we had our pr we had to show our visa confirmation.Thats one of the problems here every time you go to do something you get a different answer depending who you see. Very frustrating. Linda
  6. Hi Sadge I was one of the lucky ones and I was given all this information with my acknowledgment letter so I was able to have everything done ready for the case officer. I am assuming you will get an email from Immi with the relevant info so you can get these things done. Sorry not much help Linda
  7. Hi everyone When you ask for your HAP ids don't forget to also ask for the centrelink referral letter for your AOS as the AOS takes a lot longer to do than your medicals. You need the referral letter from Immi to take to centrelink to start the ball rolling. Linda
  8. Hi Steve I have my visa letter in front of me and it says Applicants who are in Australia An application cannot be finalised while an applicant is in Australia. All applicants who are in Australia are required to make arrangements to depart Australia within 28 days of the date of this email. Within 7 days applicants are required to provide a scanned copy of their departure arrangements from Australia to the Parent Visa Centre. Applicants should allow a minimum of 3 working days for a visa to be granted following departure from Australia. Hope this helps. I am almost certain that you both have to enter together to activate visa. Good Luck. You are nearly at the end. Linda
  9. Hi Maisie glad you have the request for the bond. Am pretty sure the cheque will have to be payable to herself or commonwealth bank as she will actually be opening some type of special account that will be in her name.Once the bond money is deposited you then have to wait for another letter from centrelink to say that the AOS has been done and this letter then has to be scanned to Immi. That's what we had to do last month. Hope this helps and hang in there you nearly at the end of the road Linda
  10. I don't think emailing case officer will help as the AOS bond is dealt with by centrelink and you have to wait for centrelink to give you all the info to lodge bond at the bank. Linda
  11. Hi Bev not sure where that is but will look it up on google. Happy to help with any questions Linda
  12. Great news Phil we are in Perth if you want to meet up when you arrive let me know Linda
  13. Hi Bev we are in Ridgewood in the northern suburbs. whereabouts will you be? Let me know when you come and we can arrange a meet up Linda
  14. Hi Joe Am happy to meet up for a coffee or something if you are interested. Let me know. Would be good to meet some new people. Linda
  15. Hi Phil we have settled in Ridgewood which is north of river in between Joondalup and Yanchep so not far from where Steve will be settling. Would be good to have a meet up as it can get a bit lonely with only family to socialise with. It is quite hard making new friends. Let me know when you are here and we can have a meet. See you soon Linda and Clive
  16. Hi Fisher ours was all on one email addressed to me and on the visa grant notice I was primary applicant and then my husband and son were in the other applicant section hope this helps Linda
  17. Hi Kim yes it's very confusing. Did you see my question about shipping? How did you use your daughters visa ? I have a friend who needs to ship her stuff but she is on a temp visa. Did you have to ship to her address or can you ship to a different address?
  18. Hi everyone As some of you are asking for updates on life over here I will fill you in on a couple of things. First of all it is the same but very different if that makes sense. Because they speak English (well sort of) I had imagined that things would be quite simple. How wrong I was. Everything over here takes forever. We spent a whole week trying to transfer our driver licences! Maybe we were just unlucky. It was very frustrating but eventually it got done. On the plus side the staff are really friendly and nice. When you go to the driving licence place or centrelink you do have to leave plenty of time. At least a couple of hours in each place a though a friend of mine was out in 40 minutes! I had completed all the paperwork for her and told her exactly what to do so I think that helped. You have three months from when you enter on a PR visa to change your driving licence over. You have to take 5 items of ID which can be a problem if you are staying with family. If you go on their website it lists 5 sections and you have to have id from each one. Medicare was easier I think we only needed passport and visa. You need to take out private health cover too. The minimum you need is ambulance cover and then you can add on whatever else you want. We have gone with hbf and have ambulance, minor and major dental and optical. There is a wide range of options to choose from depending on your personal circumstances. We bought a car on our second day. That was quite straightforward but be aware you have to pay stamp duty on the cost of the car so you do need to factor that in. If anyone tells you you don't need insurance because it is in the rego ignore them. You still need ins the same as in the uk. The insurance in the rego is only third party legal stuff so you can drive car immediately but if you were to have an accident you are not covered for any damage to any car. Car rego varies on the car but ours is about $600 per year and you can choose to pay it in 3, 6 or 12 month blocks. Definitely try and choose a car with a cloth trim as the plastic/leather seats get so hot you cannot sit on them. Also window tinting is definitely worth having. It does keep the inside a tad cooler so you can at least sit on the seats! And def check it has air conditioning. (I am sure you all know that but sometimes these things can get overlooked) If you are hoping to get employment it is very difficult here at the moment. My husband and I are both looking for work (he is an hgv/ forklift driver and there are over 200 applicants for the jobs he is applying for. I have had one interview but didn't get the job. It is quite worrying for us as we need a job to get a mortgage as we didn't have enough left after paying for our visa! We were mortgage free in uk so it is a bit of a backward step. Shopping wise you can get almost everything you would in the uk so no problems there. Phone and Internet are quite bewildering as is the tv setup. I found these to be the most stressful of all which is quite ridiculous when you think about it. There is not much unlimited internet so you have to choose how many gbs of internet you need. We have gone with foxtel for the tv just because it was the easiest. Every house seems to have different types of wiring for tv/internet and trying to get information I found very difficult as everyone has different systems. I am still none the wiser about our house which is why we have foxtel which is like sky through a satellite dish. And Telstra which is like BT I found to be a nightmare but that maybe just my experience. You certainly need to have lots of patience. Having said that it is all worth it to be with my children and grandchildren. I am really enjoying living near them and being part of their lives is great. Seem to be doing a lot of babysitting duties!!! Hope I haven't been too negative. But maybe my experiences will help you. Good luck to you all Linda x
  19. So pleased for you Phil. will maybe see you around we are in Perth Linda
  20. Question for Kim when you shipped your container you said you used your daughters visa. How do you do this as a friend of mine wants to ship her stuff and is only on a temporary visa. Did your stuff have to go to your daughters house or were you able to use her name but have it sent to a different address? Many thanks Linda
  21. Hi Julie have looked back at my email from PVC and you have 28 calendar days from when they send the email asking for the money hope this helps Linda
  22. hi fisher so pleased for you as you say rubbish timing but you have to carry on as normal or you would never leave the house. Bali is very interesting if you have never been before. We land back in Australia tomorrow. What part of Aus are you in?
  23. Hi we lodged on1 April 2014 we got our case officer on 29 Feb request for 2nd vac on 2 Mar and grant on 8 Mar so as long as you have everything they need it moves really quick. If you have not done your Ass of Support it takes about a months to get this so grant will take longer. Hope this helps
