  1. Stace, you MUST visit Broome and the Coral coast it's spectacular!!!!!!!!
  2. I know!!! Shocker!! There's various health and safety laws in place I believe so no hot food/drink prep allowed.
  3. The cat cafe is on Queen Street! Not strictly a cafe, more an instant coffee and a pre packaged muffin type of place but the cat part is incredible!!
  4. Yes, as long as you apply for the visa before your 31st birthday!
  5. How exciting! I've been following your posts for a while now and am happy that it's all underway for you. I'm here in Australia now and I guarantee it will be the best thing you've ever done! X
  6. Hello, I'm on a WHV and have worked for my company for 2 months. The company has now been sold to another owner (it's a cafe). The name of the cafe is the same but we've all had to fill new tax declarations etc. Does this technically mean it's a 'new employer' and my 6 months begins from now? Thanks
  7. Yeah I mean everyone is different with their spending habits etc - if you eat out for every meal for example then your money is going to go pretty rapidly! If you eat breakfast at your hostel and make a pack up lunch then you will make your money stretch
  8. I actually came with $17000 but bought a campervan for $14000 so only left me with $3000 although i am travelling with my other half so cost of campsites etc are split, but I've found that enough money for me for about 8 weeks until I found a job. I'm not a massive drinker though and the prices are pretty high for that in Aus so save your cash and buy a 6 pack to drink at home!
  9. Generally speaking, most travellers I've met either started in Sydney or Brisbane and worked their way up/down the east coast ending in Cairns. Again all this is my opinion and a massive generalisation but all the Aussies I've met have been amazing, generous and friendly! They love a good English person! As long as you can take a few jokes about the place then you're golden with the work thing it's really just a case of how lucky you are. For example, my and my other half came to Brisbane, both as Baristas, I got a job within 2 days but 5 weeks later my partner still hasn't found anything. Good luck to you though, coming here will be the best decision you will ever make!
  10. 100% do it, clichè I know - but life is too short. You're at an ideal age for it and this could be the best thing you ever did! Good luck
  11. Hello, unfortunately the working holiday visa isn't an option for you as you are not allowed to take any dependants (children) with you. What occupations do you have? If it's on the SOL then you may have options x
  12. Try looking on AirBnB, some great places on there!
  13. Hello, I've tried looking on the HMRC website but I'm just confusing myself even more! Basically I'm self employed and leaving to go to Australia on a WHV for a year or so. My tax owed is paid through my regular job through my PAYE code. I will be leaving this job in December so how will they collect the tax remaining for the year? Will I have to ring them and set up some kind of direct debit? Also, I will have to compete a tax return for 2014/2015 but I won't even be in the country to process this return, can I fill one in early? Or take my paperwork overseas with me and do it online!? Thanks in advance Rachel x
  14. I'd say you'd be richer than 90% of the other backpackers around!
  15. Thank you, I must have mis-read something along the way! X
  16. Sorry if this is an obvious question. I understand you can only work for 6 months for any one employer on a WHV, but I swear I read somewhere that you can only work for 6 months IN TOTAL, did I imagine that? Thanks in advance!
  17. Thanks for all your advice guys, Singapore Airlines it is then! X
  18. Hello all just wanted to know peoples experiences of flying with Singapore airlines. Thinking of booking my flights to Oz through them, I've had a look at their website at the entertainment section and there's not really much in the way of movies to keep me entertained I know that's not the be all and end all of a flight as long as the rest of it had some good opinions! Thanks guys x
  19. Ha sorry didn't mean to generalise and put everyone in the same boat
  20. They're good people, and they normally support me in whatever I do, I guess that's why I was so taken by surprise when they were so negative towards me. My other halves parents are so supportive and excited for us it just highlight the difference - although they are a lot younger than my parents. At the end if the day, cliched as it may be - you only get one life and you have to live it the way you want! Not how other people want you too x
  21. My mum originally offered to look after them, she adores cats! And it's only for a year, but she says my dad has put his foot down and doesn't want to be responsible if anything happens to them which I guess I can see his point of view!
  22. Thanks for all the positive responses guys! My parents have now rescinded their offer of looking after my 2 cats now that I'm not taking a sabbatical as originally hoped but leaving my job altogether.... They knew by doing this I would have to halt my plans because I ADORE my cats and I have to make sure they are well looked after by someone I know.
  23. I've lived over 100miles away from my parents for 10 years so I'm certainly not expecting them to help me out after! (I'm leaving a fair amount of money behind to set me up again when I'm back) I'm a multi site restaurant manager so Sponsorship is a very slim option although that would be the dream! To top it all off, just had a phone call from my other half ( we work together as well) saying that the general manager came and spoke to him regarding us going travelling (he knows as I applied for a sabbatical) basically satyjbg that there's promotions coming up and it would be a bad time for me to leave etc. how DARE he speak to my boyfriend about that! Unprofessional if you ask me!
  24. Thank you for that my parents are both in their late 60's and you're exactly right in saying they're from a different generation! My dad told me I should be thinking about kids etc now im 'nearly 30' not quitting my job, and save my money for a house....Me and my partner have visited Aus before (ironically to stay with my dad's twin brother who emigrated there 40 years ago!) and totally fell in love with the place and want to see so much more of it. I was feeling pretty confident in our plans until my dad started putting seeds of doubt in my mind... He also pointed out that my partner is younger than me so 'doesn't have as much to lose'
  25. Hi everyone, I know this may seem like a trivial post - but I've spoken to my parents about leaving my job I'm 28, been there 7 years) to go travelling to aus for a year or two with my other half. Basically my dad has told me I'm making a massive mistake and his disappointment has really upset me! He's worried that I'm leaving behind a good job and will come back to nothing. I don't want to live with regrets but I want my parents to be proud of what I'm doing PS already been rejected for a sabbatical
