Hi all, whilst i am still at the "i'll believe it when i see it stage" i phoned AHPRA and was advised "it's good news, the evidence you've provided has met the education criteria 1-8 so that's good, it's now gone to the professional registrations officer for final sign off, it's on her desk as we speak so i've emailed her to get a timescale for you"........here's hoping!

Hi Bigmac.....this is what my case officer said about the EU directive...."The NMC did not have a copy of your transcript of training and sent a copy of the EU directive in its place. This is a general document which does not relate directly to your course of study, but will be included in the application. The university of Lancashire have provided a transcript summary. It would be advisable to see if you can obtain a further breakdown of the module/subject which covered medication management and have the university provide this information to AHPRA"......i've managed to get the uni to send a letter re criteria 8 and a further breakdown, but looking at the fact sheet on this criteria i can't see how i'm going to meet it to be honest

we've been waiting since August last year for AHPRA so it's a long process; my uni has written a letter saying that kinetics/ dynamics/ administration and calculation are studied throughout the 3 years of UK nurse training and that you are continually assessed on these throughout the 3 years.....but i am not hopeful that this will suffice to be honest
-
I'm an RMN and am being assessed now. You'll need to get your university to provide the evidence to meet this criteria; there's a fact sheet on AHPRA's website - http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/Codes-Guidelines-Statements/FAQ/IQNM-Criterion-8-registered-nurse.aspx As for whether we'll get registered or not? pass, i have absolutely no idea i'm afraid but imagine will find out soon one way or another!

we requested it mid Feb when it all first came out, so there was a lot of huffing and puffing, eventually got sent 11th March, but they seem to have got a grip with it now so a reckon you'll probably get a 2 week turnaround form when you ring verification's and ask them to send you the form

agreed; they've been particularly obtuse about the whole thing, although they have sent us a confirmation letter stating that they have sent the required info through re criteria 3 and my uni have sent through the stuff for criteria 2 & 8 so it's been over to AHPRA again to see what more we need to send!

they said that they will send verification's for people re course accreditation and transcripts for the meds management stuff as the transcripts that they hold are far more detailed than the info universities hold and they can demonstrate that this learning and assessment occurs throughout your 3 year training..........they didn't seem to think it was a major deal and were pretty relaxed about it so i'm guessing that the NMC & AHPRA have now finished their 'dialogue' and are comfortable with the arrangement re UK trained nurses?

from recall i think you'll see the money gone before you get any contact then you should get an email with a load of blurb in it that will basically have a letter attached telling you what further info they want off you with timescales for providing it and allocating you a case officer as a point of contact.

latest email conversation with AHPRA case officer........ Dear Iain, Thank you for your email. We are aware that this is a new requirement requested of the overseas nursing authorities and a dialogue between the NMC and AHPRA is in place. Hopefully this will be sorted as soon as possible, however I note your attempt and have noted this email with your application.

this isn't worse of it, we've already had the eligibility letter once but due to unforeseen circumstances couldn't make the ID check within the 12 month period (Sept 2013) and so had to apply again, so thought would do in August thinking it took no time at all last time.......and then they move the goal posts!

just spoken to the NMC about the verification letter for proving that my nurse training was approved and accredited by them and they said "we have just been made aware of the changes via email from AHPRA, we are currently having conversations with them about criteria 3 as we believe that we already provide this information to them when we verify that you are a UK registered nurse and provide the certificate of good standing and so we believe that this is a duplication and therefore not required".........so now stuck in an argument between the NMC and AHPRA.......you've gotta laugh!

the best thing was, in my letter (that i received on the 20th Feb Australian time) it stated that if i didn't get the required info back to them by the 19th Feb (the day before i actually received the letter) i would be assessed based on my 'insufficient evidence' :arghh:

the letter i've received off them requesting further information says "please provide evidence of satisfactory completion and/or assessment of the study of medication management, including drug calculation, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Evidence of successful completion of a pharmacology subject as part of your studies is insufficient".......so asked the university to provide this for more.

pass? but if that's what they want that's what i'm getting sent to them! apparently the transcript saying 'pharmacology studies' is not enough so back to the Uni for them to tell AHPRA i did pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics & drug calculations!

got a letter emailed from AHPRA today asking for more information to be sent to them for criteria 2 (University Accreditation) criteria 3 (NMC Accreditation) and criteria 8 (evidence of successful completion of pharmacological subject as part of your studies is not sufficient, they want it breaking down more) on a plus note, no mention of any of the other criteria which can only mean that the good old UK Nursing Diploma IS the equivalent of the Australian Bachelor Degree!
