  1. Thanks Maggie and foo. Appreciate your answers.
  2. Undestood foo. Thanks a lot. It's clear now. On a 189 visa, because I am not sponsored, I can change employers at any time, and can even setup my own business. Is that correct?
  3. Hi Maggie, Thanks for your answer. Yeah, sorry. I didnt write correctly. While on a 457 visa, I can only apply for the Permanent Residency after 2 years, correct? So by having the 189 visa, means I automatically have the Permanent Residency? And then, after having the PR and being in the country for 4 years, I can apply for the citizenship? Thanks
  4. Hi everyone, I hope you're well. I arrived in Australia exactly 4 weeks ago on a 457 visa. Understanding that my current employer might not apply for my PR in two years time, I am looking into the 189 Visa. Do you guys know if I may apply for the 189 visa (well, the EOI right now), even being here for only 1 month? My skills are on the skills list and I have the points for it. Also, by getting the 189 visa I will be able to apply by myself for the Australian residency in two years time, is that correct? And one last question: processing time for 189 visa is 12 months. Assuming I apply today and get the visa in 12 months, I would be in Australia for 13 months. Would I be able to apply for the residency in 11 months after getting the 189 visa (2 years in total), or by getting the 189 visa my residency period application "resets" and I have to start from month 1? Thanks!
  5. Hey guys I am due to arrive in some weeks - still finalizing a few details. I come from a programming background (Java) and now mostly doing Enterprise Integration and BPM work with TIBCO products. I am arriving with a 457 visa, sponsored by a company to keep on working on the same field. In terms of salary, I can't complain. It's not bad, but not what I had planned for me. I am 10% under what I had planned for my minimum base. I will be quite aggressive in 2014 trying to get a raise or finding a new employee.
  6. My application currently is like this: 31/10/2013 Application received - processing commenced 31/10/2013 Application fee received 13/11/2013 Health requirement finalised 13/11/2013 Further medical results received The funny thing is that my company had told me that they applied for the visa on the 27th September! But the system shows 31st October... How can it be? I guess that it took from the 27th September to 31st October for my nomination to be approved. And then they began processing my application. Just a guess. Still waiting and waiting...
  7. Nice place! Too bad I will only need a flat in December. Good luck finding someone, mate
  8. Thanks xxlornaxx. I feel much better now. Now it's just a matter of finding a nice flat for me in Sydney! :-)
  9. I see. Well, thank you very much Rupert for the info. That helped a lot. Will make sure to get my rental pack sorted. That one I didn't account for.
  10. well, if that's the case... good how about the competition of other people trying to get the property? Would you say it's hard, in general? I've been to flat views in Switzerland with a queue of people to see it.
  11. Just got a reference letter from my last agency in London. And they charged me £30... grrrr But it should help anyway
  12. thanks, my bank in the UK is actually HSBC. Will check with them with what they can help me with.
  13. Hi all, I am due to arrive in Sydney in December this year. I already know the neighborhoods I want to live in. My concern is the possible resistance of landlords or agencies to enable me to secure one of their properties knowing that I have just arrived to the country. I experienced that while living in Switzerland and it's not pleasant. I had landlords there increasing the bond in 50% just because I wasn't Swiss. Not sure if this happens in Australia, but I better ask now than be sorry later, right? I am coming with a 457 visa and I am wondering which sort of documents can I bring with me from England to help me turn the process as smooth as possible? I am sure my company will back me up and give me a letter... what else? Thanks everyone
  14. Anyone planning to see the fireworks this year? I should be arriving on the first week of December, alone - so looking for a gang who might allow me in?
  15. Fingers crossed and it wont take many months. I want to be in Sydney for NYE
  16. Can't hardly wait to arrive :-) Just a bit concerned with the heat, but I should be able to survive. Thanks for the tips
  17. I am still in the UK, but I am planning to live in Surry Hills. From what I read, it's a nice place with a village sort of feel and walk distance to CBD. My company's office is in North Sydney, but I am a consultant - will be visiting clients. Most of them are in the CBD. If not Surry Hills, I will end up somewhere in the Lower North Shore as I have friends who tell me the region is great too. But I guess Surry Hills will fit my profile better (young single professional)
  18. Hi all, Hello there, first post here My company here in the UK is transferring me to Sydney and lodged the 457 application on the 27th September. They mentioned that since it's an inter-company transfer, I will probably be granted the visa quicker than normal. But can't give any ETA, obviously. Has anyone been through this process? I've been reading that it takes around 2 months for the 457 to be granted. Is this correct? Many thanks and for those in Sydney who would like to meet and have drinks, let me know!
