    Council Tax

We pay £264 a month in UK and the council are about to raise it by the maximum percentage that the government allow. I do think it's fair that renters pay too though, they also use the pothole-filled roads and bin services
  2. Thank you! 60 isn't enough for my category, Accountant, as it's so over subscribed. I would never get an invite with just 60 unfortunately. I am in Newcastle and could take it there, not sure about Scotland but I would expect so. You should read the pinned post above about IELTS v PTE, I think it will give you some hope
  3. Hi, I can get 25 for age, 20 for English (this is a presumption so far!), 15 for qualifications. I might still be able to claim 5 for work experience even though I have been in my current job for 10 years, but I am not sure if it's relevant enough experience and also not sure if it has to be continuous (might not qualify at all). I might be able to claim 5 or 10 for location. There is still a chance of me scrapping in, but I feel as though it's getting slimmer by the day. What is your skill in? Also try PTE instead of IELTS, it might not have existed last time you applied, it sounds like a fairer test. I am planning to do that one on 23rd March.
  4. Hi Ryso, thank you so much for your reply, it was paid, but like you not full pay. I have 3 children under 5, a year off with each one. That's a lot to deduct! I will have to recalculate whether I can even apply now.
  5. DianaK does the CPA advise the DIBP or will they do their own assessment? I had planned to get ICAA to do the skills assessment as they have a fast track and can do it in a week. Would you advise using CPA instead? If it takes too long I would risk all the places being filled and accountant taken off the list
  6. Hi From what I have read it is extremely difficult to get accountancy jobs anywhere in Australia. Victoria and Queensland don't have any accountants on their wanted list, whereas the other states do, so that could be taken as an indication that those areas would be the most difficult. I am a qualified accountant too but if we are able to move to Australia we would be expecting my husband to be the main earner. Do you already have your visa?
  7. ab4122 - I have 2 teacher friends who applied (fairly) recently and did it themselves, it's definitely possible. We are not intending to pay for an agent either, although we are right at the beginning too
  8. Hi thank you for your reply, 190 for management consultant is still a possibility, the skills assessment is with vetassess though, which seems more complicated than a straight forward ICAEW to ICAA. But yes I could still look at that one, ACT would want me to prove that there are actually jobs available, some of the ones I saw wanted citizens only because of government security clearance so that could also be quite tricky!!
  9. Although I have genuine finance experience it seems it is going to be difficult to slot it into any of the accounting categories. It would be too risky to claim it as I would have paid my visa fee by the time a full judgement could be made. So my next option could be for a management or general accountant 190 without experience in NSW, NT or Tasmania. Has anyone any idea which of these states are keenest or quickest for accountants? I would only have 65 points unless I went for 489 visa I think?
  10. What makes you (or anyone) high risk?
  11. Thanks Maybe Diva, my husband's occupation is on the 190 list for Tasmania only, and just am not sure if he would need a job offer or not to get the state nomination. My work experience is mostly as a project accountant, although this is not in my job title. I am going to ring a few migration agents in the morning. What would happen if I claimed 75 including my experience, got an invite, but the got downgraded during the visa assessment to 60 points? Would my visa be rejected altogether or could it still pass with 60?
  12. Thank you to both of you. I have just had 1 employer in last 10 years, so that should be quite straight forward. I am still not convinced that my experience will be relevant enough, I will try and get some advice. I would hate to claim the points on the EOI and then have the visa rejected because of it!!!
  13. I'm getting even more confused with all this, and going round in circles! I've just realised that my experience may not count. I would get 25 points for age, assuming I can get 20 for English, and I would get 15 for education, I have a maths degree and ICAEW. However, for the last 10 years, I haven't really been working as an accountant, I am actually a management consultant, but specialising in financial management and project finances. Management Consultant is on the CSOL for ACT only, should I go for that one, I'd have 80 points for management consultant I think?? What do they look at for work experience? What evidence do you have to provide?
  14. Thanks Makybe Diva, I have asked ICAEW for the letter, I'll have to check if I have the exam transcripts already. I saw Business Law and Quantitative Methods listed on the mandatory list, so I need to check on those, but hopefully not any more studying!!
  15. Hi mgreaves, thank you for your help, that is very useful to know. I am looking at doing PTE-A on 16th March, so I could be ready with the EOI by the end of March/early April. Do I need to do any additional exams, I am ICAEW qualified and a member since 2002. However, I don't think I ever studied these which seem to be mandatory? Having to study anything additional would certainly spoil my timeline!! Business Law Quantitative Methods
  16. Hi, thank you for your response, I spoke to a migration consultant today and he said that maternity leave still counts. My part time hours are now 24 hours per week, which also counts. Did you have to do any additional exams to get your skills assessed? I am going for the General Accountant one.
  17. Hi I have been in my current job for just over 10 years. Full time for the first 5 years or so, however since then I have had time off for maternity leave and then returned part time. I have been on the same continuous contract for the who time. Will this count against me if I try to claim 8 out of the last 10 years experience? Thanks!
  18. Hi all, I am reading your threads and panicking a bit here! I am only just at the beginning of this process. If I get maximum points for English then I should have 70 points in total. I am going to do my English exam in a couple of weeks and have not yet applied for my skills assessment. How quickly can I realistically submit my EOI? I am worried that they take accountants off the list in July
  19. Hi, I am only just starting the process now. I am hoping to have 70 points and I am a member of ICAEW too. Slightly worrying to read that accountants might be taken off the list in July. Do I have any chance of getting in? Also how do I do the skills assessment and do I need to do that before submitting my EOI? Thanks!
  20. Hi Is anyone in the UK selling their PTE academic practice book please? Thanks!
