  1. How long do we have from the English exam and CPA assessment to apply for the visa? We are thinking of delaying for a few months whilst we take a trip out to Australia to help us make a final decision. Is it 12 months before they expire and have to start from scratch?
  2. That's great news, thanks for keeping us informed :-)
  3. Ah that's what I wanted to do - just pay the agent for the bits I really needed. Without my experience counting I would not have enough points to get a 189 or 190, as I am applying under General Accountant and it's very much oversubscribed.
  4. This thread is worrying me! We weren't intending to use an agent, but I'm thinking that might be a mistake now. Especially the part about how much experience can be claimed when taking into consideration part time working and maternity leave
  5. Maybe I should have chosen ICAA but I wanted the experience assessment which is why I chose CPA. I don't have a syllabus for the Business Law (business not company law my mistake) however I could do the statutory declaration if I need to. I just thought that I wouldn't need to! I will try and give them a ring this morning.
  6. Help! Not sure what to do - CPA have come back from my skills assessment saying that I have not studied enough Company Law. I have the ICAEW qualification, I studied it between 1999 and 2002. Anyone else had this problem? I was initially told that no syllabus was required for ICAEW
  7. Thanks for all your responses. I prefer the softer approach too, and telling them that we are thinking about it rather than we are definitely doing it. However, so far whenever it has been mentioned then either the subject has been quickly changed (by someone else) or it wasn't taken seriously. It's the idea of taking young grandchildren away that will be heartbreaking for them :-(
  8. We'll take that rental Julia ;-)
  9. Congratulations Penny! (reading your timeline wow very efficient, I should have been just a week behind you - but I was slacking!!)
  10. Hi all, I've had several failed attempts at broaching the subject of migration with my close family. At what stage did everyone else tell them? After you have the visa? During the process? What did you say and how did they react?
  11. Congratulations on getting it back. If you have 2 years of experience would that make a difference? Just thinking that if you haven't received your invitation in 7 months time, you could re-submit it with 2 years of experience.
  12. Just wait until the "waiting to board the plane wait"!!!
  13. I got an email yesterday morning from CPA asking for the log in for PTA. I am expecting to be waiting another 2 weeks. I am not in a desperate hurry, although don't want to miss out all together. The day I have to tell my parents is looming closer :-(
  14. Sorry, I just read your signature, which answers the question!
  15. I think you should be fine, either this one or the one after. Interesting to know how long your skills assessment took, 11 working days not bad. Did they also assess your experience, or just qualification?
  16. Wow it's getting tight at the end of the year! Hoping to have 75 points but waiting for CPA to confirm my experience. I will apply to NSW anyway though I think just to be on the safe side
  17. Thanks! Got it. Do you know how many places were allocated on 23rd March?
  18. All documents for my skills assessment now submitted. Does anyone know how to add a signature at the bottom of posts with my PTE and application dates?? Thanks
  19. I have just submitted mine with CPA, and have received the email with the request for information. Just trying to put that together now. I am asking for the experience assessment as well, so there's quite a bit to do. Did you get a response from yours yet?
  20. I thought I was ready to submit my skills assessment this evening, but ICAA website says... required... Letter of good standing (original colour scan copy) - this letter must be obtained from your accounting body and state that you are a full current member in good standing. It should be dated within three (3) months of the application received date. (ICAEW members can obtain the required letter from the Professional Conduct Directorate) ICAEW no longer provide a letter of good standing, so I only have a basic letter confirming that I am a member. Who is this Professional Conduct Directorate that they are referring to, and how do I contact him?? So now I am wondering if I should go with CPA as they don't ask for this. Will there be anything that CPA require that ICAA don't?
  21. I am still having dilemmas over which accounting class to ask for my assessment in. I am hoping to get my skills assessment application off in the next day or 2. Are there spaces left on the management accountant subclass? I was going to go for the general accounting one originally, but the management accounting one seems to fit my experience better. I am ICAEW qualified though. Is it just CIMA qualified people who go for this one? So confused!

I am 38 and I was told by a migration agent that I am old in Australian visa terms! A sponsored visa is only valid for 4 years and you are tied to the sponsorship company (I believe), that wouldn't get you permanent residency. You'd have to return after 4 years unless you found someone else to sponsor you. A business visa might be an option, if you can prove that you have the required number of years of business experience and have a solid business plan (not sure if there is an age restriction). I would suggest ringing a migration agent in the morning, they will talk through your options for free. Marrying a local might an option, but again you have to prove that you have lived together for at least 12 months etc, not sure of the exact rules lol
  23. I am interested in the answer of how to tell the parents/in laws too!!? This is probably my biggest hurdle regarding moving!

Hi, The permanent residency visas for skilled workers all have an age restriction of 50. I think there is a retirement visa for 55+, but you can't take any dependent children on it (if you have any), reading the threads it seems almost impossible to get a job from here unless you have skills that are very highly in demand. Do you have any family over there who could sponsor you?
