  1. Yes, I got your point; the Academic Reading section requires 35/40 for band 8 whereas General Reading is a bit easier but instead requires 37/40 correct for the same band. Also, the Listening, Speaking and Task 2 of Writing are the same across the two modules as you suggested. I have taken my General test already and have scheduled the Academic in the coming week. I feel I should've had done my homework earlier and taken only the Academic module.
  2. Thank you everyone for clarifying this. I've already taken my General test and scheduled to take the Academic in the coming week. I feel I should've had done my homework earlier and taken only the Academic module.
  3. Hi Adonna, Thank you very much for your inputs. If true, this certainly is good news for me. How much sure are you about this information though? Have you known of any similar cases accepted by DIAC? I just don't want to leave anything to chance!
  4. Hello, I would like to apply for the 189 skilled independent visa shortly. I am facing a situation where my skills assessing authority (ICAA) requires an IELTS score of minimum 7 on each band in the Academic module however I must obtain minimum of 8 in each band to meet the points requirements for this visa. I believe it would be easier to score 8 on the General module than on the Academic module. My question is: will my scores from the General Training module be accepted by DIAC when I have taken the Academic module for my skills assessment? Any body on the forum may please offer advice based on their knowledge or similar experiences. Thank you.
  5. Hi Petar, Would you please be kind to share the outcome of your application? I am facing a similar situation where my skills assessing authority (ICAA) requires a minimum 7 on each band in the Academic module however I must obtain a minimum of 8 in each band for this visa. Were your scores from the General Training module accepted by DIAC or were you required to retake the Academic module? Any body else on the forum may please provide their insights as well. Thanks
  6. Hi all, I am to take my IELTS in a few weeks. While applying for the test online, do I need to select the option of sending my scores directly to DIAC or can I send my TRF to DIAC later on along with the other documents? Any sort of input is much appreciated.
  7. Hi everyone, I'm based out of India and looking to apply for the 189 Skill Independent Visa. Following is my Points assessment: Age 23y - 25 points Education - B.Com (2010), CA India (2011) and ACCA (2011) - 15 points IELTS - R9, L8, W7, S7 - 10 points At this stage, I have 50 points under my belt and need an additional 10 points to pass the Points Test. Work Ex - This has been an enigma for me. I have been in continuous employment since 2007. I started off as part-qualified right from mid 2007 (it was paid employment and 35 hours a week) and graduated in 2010 followed by qualifying as a professional accountant in early 2011 (ACCA). So how many years of experience can I claim towards the Employment points? If considered from 2007, I score 10 points for >5 yrs of work exp which is what I require. However, if part-qualified experience cannot be considered towards the points test, I may have 0 or 5 points only. 2007-Present (10 points) 2010-Present (5 points) 2011-Present (0 points) I'm not sure how much will be considered by DIAC. All of this experience was however in my occupation (External Audit). Can anybody suggest based on their prior experience or knowledge as to how many points can be claimed towards Employment in such a situation? The Booklet 6 on the immigration page (http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/visas/subclass-189/#skilled-employment) doesn't seem to make any clarification on part-qualified work-exp. Another option I have is to retake the IELTS and score at least 8 on each band and then claim 20 points towards English Language ability. But this is expensive and there's no guarantee that'll I'll end up with 8 on each so I'm not very keen going this way. I'll have to reconsider if I'm left with no choice. Further, applying under which ANZSCO code would make my application have a higher chance of selection? Any inputs are much appreciated. Thanks
