  1. I have a ziggy - I love it. For me it is more useful as I often only BBQ for one. Split grill plates (so you can have 2 open grill or 1 flat plate and 1 open grill or even use a wok on an open half, and two separate burners. I guess if you will always be cooking for 4 etc this variety won't be as helpful. Also seriously light if you take the grill plates out and just pops in the back of the car for the beach.
  2. We aren't particular hagglers in the UK with the exception of cars and possibly houses. I get the impression that haggling is more widespread in Aus. I'm landing in a couple of weeks and will need to sort myself out with various white goods/sofa etc and was wondering what the deal was with haggling and if so is there anything specific to aim for? I will be heading to Hobart which doesn't have as wide a range of shops so I guess I may be more limited. Any suggestions?
  3. My nomination was already approved a couple of months ago. I could only lodge my application once I had AHPRA confirmation which came through on 27th Dec.
  4. Lodged 30th Dec, granted 17th Jan (medicals frontloaded although you may not need these depending on occupation), should be in Tasmania in 3 weeks. Tasmania's 457s are also processed in Melbourne so fingers crossed for you.
  5. I'm moving to Hobart in the new year and have just about the right amount of stuff for a large movecube, however despite saying they ship to major cities apparently Hobart doesn't count and they don't ship to Tasmania except excess luggage. What experience do people have of shared containers? I'm not overly keen on the idea but a whole container is massive overkill. Any suggestions or advice?
  6. I'm at the point of applying for my visa having just got a positive skills assessment. I have a couple of odd things in my past medical history which shouldn't cause any long term problems but are somewhat uncommon. My previous Consultant is happy to write a specific letter as support but was wondering what specific bits of information they are after. The general message just seems to be it will be fine so long as I'm not anticipated to cost Aus $$$ in the future but does anyone have any more specific guidance about the actual points it would be helpful to address in the supporting letter?
  7. Skyscanner is your friend I've also found these people very helpful http://www.skyclub.com/ Also don't forget to register with the appropriate airline reward scheme. One return flight has already got me silver membership which includes things such as extra luggage allowance with their partners who include VirginAus.....
  8. I paid £2890 return to LHR to SYD via Etihad earlier this summer during their sale. It isn't just the space and calm in the cabin but also no set meal time and food cooked on demand but the chance for a lounge with showers and complementary mini spa during transfer with the magic tickets to jump all the queues, also add in chauffeur transfer at each end.
  9. Agreed Jurassic coast, the second picture seems to have Golden Cap in the background.
  10. Thanks Guys. I will be moving on my own but hoping that diving, singing and learning to sail will help introduce me to some of the locals. I came over in July after getting increasing dissatisfied with the government micromanagement (and persistent negative spin in the press) of the NHS getting in the way of the bits of my job that I enjoy. I know others who have already made the leap and feel the working life is much better. I went for a shufty in NSW (friends there) but somehow everything I read about tassie appealed and I have previously worked for 6/12 in NZ too in the past. I got off the place at Hobart and everything just felt right. Looking forward to meeting you in future. Mary
  11. After a recce trip in July which included a couple of job interviews I have accepted a job offer and will hopefully shortly be making the Apple Isle my home. I am currently doing the slog of AMC/RACGP assessment prior to AHPRA etc and then finally visas. I will be working in Brighton and hopefully finding somewhere in Hobart to live (30 min commute - did some trial runs when over visiting). I have been lurking on PIO for some time but now things seem to be really happening I thought it was about time to say hello! Mary
