  1. Hi Bec I am Ros (33) originally from Manchester. My husband and I live on the Southside inner city suburb. I have only been in Brisbane for 4 months so always up for meeting new friends. Looks like you have had a few replies, maybe we could organise to meet for drinks somewhere! :-)

    Help RRV

Hi This question has probably been answered before but I cannot find a thread. Please can someone offer some advice, we have a PR189 Visa Validated April 2014, moved permanently in December 2014. I understand that ideally we need to stay in Australia for 2 years out of the 5 years. My questions are: 1. Is the 2 years consecutive from December 2014 - December 2016 without leaving at all? 2. We are planning a vacation for 1 week to Bali - will this affect the 2 years or will we still be classed as living in Australia? ie if we go on vacation will the 2 year clock start again from the date we get back to Aus? Thanks Pete
  3. Hey Javi I have recently arrived in Brisbane (6 weeks ago), living in Morningside with my hubby, no kids yet, I am 33, love going out and always happy to make new friends! Let me know if you do organise a catch up! Rossalyn x

  5. Hi Me and my wife have recently moved to Brisbane too, (10 days in) we are also from Manchester in our early 30's and would be interested in meeting new friends. We are in Bulimba, so just over from you guys in The Valley. Pete
  6. Hi Gill Me and my husband are moving to Morningside, Brisbane in December, we know absolutely nobody there so we would be up for meeting some fellow northerners, we are from Manchester! we are early 30's no kids, hubby is Fridge Tech and I work in Sales. i will get in touch when we are settled as by then we will need a bevvy or 2 if you fancy it? and we would love to hear how you are getting on and you can share some hints and tips for us newbies! speak soon Ros
  7. It is approx £160 for up to 30kg weight. We have also been advised to clean my husbands tools thoroughly with Jeyes fluid. you can probably get cheaper quotes but we are using the same shipping company for everything... for an easy life!!!!
  8. Hi It is confusing, I think people ship their belongings in different order depending on their priorities. Me and my husband are flying over in December and my husband needs his tools for work too, so we are sending the tools by air freight it takes around 7-10 days I think. The rest of our stuff is being shipped as normal. We are sending the tools a few days before we leave, so they should arrive a few days after we get there. I hope this helps and makes sense and good luck! Ros
  9. Hi all, Are there any fridge/AC guys out there that know of anyone recruiting around December?? My Wife and I are moving to Brisbane in early December on a 189 PR visa. I just thought I'd ask as i'm not getting many responses from the companies I've applied with, probably because I'm not there yet! Thanks Pete
  10. Hi Indi i sat the Vetassess assessment earlier this year. I imagine you will be doing it at the college in Wembley as I did. The whole assessment lasted 8 hours and there was only three of us! We started off with a small cold room set up just like the F-gas assessment. Checking running temps, superheat etc, reclaim, leak test, vac then re-charge. Then again checking superheat etc. Then there's a bit of pipe work assembly with brazes and flares then test them with OFN. Then there's some electrical testing of compressors, windings, star delta etc. Then when you think it's over, you have to sit an exam! The assessor asks you questions while you're doing the assessment as well. it's pretty straight forward, stuff that you do on a daily basis. Some people just don't like being watched!:biglaugh: Just relax and you'll be fine! Pete
  11. Hi zk2102, just out out of interest, how long is the commute to Brissie from Hope island??

    Visa advice

Hi all, My wife and I validated our 189 visa back in April. We are moving for good in December. Do we need to do anything prior to entering Oz in regards to visa paper work? Do we need a resident return visa at this stage?? thanks
  14. Hi Mate How are you getting on? Just wondered if the lads you chatted to in Oz mentioned anything about the ARCTICK licence situation? Most jobs I've seen are asking for the ARTICK licence, I have an OTSR which means I can only apply for a Trainee ARTICK but its a catch 22 because I need a job to get a supervisor to sign off on it. I am thinking of contacting TRA and getting my qualifications transferred but heard that this can also be a long shot. Don't know if you can shed any light? Cheers Pete
  15. Sorry i didn't see your post earlier! I'm an A/C refrigeration engineer too. i did my assessment a few months back! How did you get on??? Our assessment was all day! there doesn't seem to be a lot of information for fridge lads on here! ive had my 189 visa granted and we're going to Brisbane in December!!!! Where are you planning on going? Pete
  16. Hi, just wondered if you managed to get your hands on the IELTS book? i have one that I will send you for free if you like?
  17. Thanks Cal, I'll be sure to check out the Arctick website when I get back to the UK. I noticed you're originally from Bury, we're also from Manchester. We're currently doing a reccie and we're heading to Brisbane next week. What's Jimboomba like??? My Wife and I are checking out suburbs in and around Brisbane. Cheers Pete
  18. Hi guys, I'm an A/C refrigeration engineer, I've just had my 189 Visa granted and looking for jobs. as I'm not currently in Australia, can I obtain a license from the UK or do I have to do it in Australia? I've had my skills assessed as part of my visa application but employers are asking for my Arctick license!! It seems to be a catch 22 situation, I need a job to obtain the license but I need a license to get a job!! can anyone shed any light on this matter???
  19. Thanks for your help guys! We'll be sure to check out these places.
  20. Thanks for the advice wolvesaussie, we are hiring a car so we will try and fit in visits to all of the places you mentioned. What will the weather be like in Melbourne in April? This is the wife's question - she is planning her wardrobe :-)
  21. Hi from a couple of Newbies to Pomsinoz! My wife and I are doing a reccie trip spending a week in Melbourne and a week in Brisbane, we are in the final stages of acquiring a PR 189 Visa. The plan for the trip is to decide where we want to live, and just wondered if anyone out there can recommend some nice suburbs to visit, we are 30 something like a nice social life but we also like it chilled sometimes too. We are staying in St Kilda in Melbourne and Morningside in Brisbane as a starting point but any recommendations would be welcome! Any good suggestions for touristy things to do too? Also planning on meeting with recruiters I am an AC Refrigeration Engineer, so any advice on who are the best recruitment consultants would also be appreciated. Thanks Pete
