  1. Than the UK. I'm a permanent resident in Australia so not on the most challenging visa for employers. My family and partner is in Brisbane and we're staying here. Savings are also starting to run out rapidly so moving to Sydney is a no go.
  2. Hi all, I moved out here in November to Brisbane and have applied for, to say the least, quite a few jobs in Marketing (assistant). Originally came out here as I naively thought that Brisbane would have more opportunities career wise, however I am starting to quickly think the opposite. I am a graduate in Marketing and Business with junior level experience in Marketing. Has anyone else had difficulty in this market?
  3. Hi Tiff and Lianne there's a really good site that we've found called meetup, you can join different groups and as it says on the tin, meetup with people that have similar interests to you. They do all sorts such as days and nights out, we've found it really successful so I'd definitely recommend!
  4. We've been together for 2 years and living together for about 6 months. We've only just moved over to Australia, we do have a joint bank account and items of mail that go to the same address both here and when we lived back in the UK, however these don't date back an entire year. Is this an issue? Our emails go back for the entirety we've been together as do photos and other things such as that, but as I couldn't afford to move in with him until I finished my studies I had to live at home. As soon as I finished and switched to full time work I could afford to move in with him so did so. We now live together in Brisbane but we've only been here a couple of months. I've had a look at the list and most of those things we can provide. Do we need to provide everything on the list? As we house share our name isn't on the lease and it wasn't when we were back in the UK, we also don't have bills in our name as these are all in the name of the person who is on the lease (they've been here about 8 months whereas we've just moved in). Will this cause us any problems in applying for a de facto partner visa? Like I said we've been in a serious committed relationship for 2 years (not just bf/gf with 'benefits' as you implied) and we do have plans to get married, we just can't afford it yet due to only just moving over and finding our feet.
  5. Thanks for the replies, we currently live in Brisbane so it looks like a state nomination isn't possible. He doesn't have any offers as of yet so it looks like the partner visa is the best option. Thanks for both clarifying that for us! Just out of interest, what type of evidence would be acceptable for a de facto partner visa? We have pictures on Facebook that are date stamped, emails we've sent to each other with the date on, holiday tickets with both our names on etc. Would all of this be sufficient? We've also read that you can get friends to write character references for you to prove the relationship but we're wondering if these can come from family members as well? We just want to ensure we have all of the information so it doesn't get rejected!
  6. Hi guys, I have a quick question. My boyfriend is currently over here on a Working Holiday Visa, I'm a PR and we're looking at what options he has available to him for him to stay out here with me. We know we can apply for a de facto partner visa (we've been together more than a year and have the evidence to prove it) but he's wondering if he can get a skilled visa instead as it appears to be a cheaper option. His job doesn't appear on the SOL but it does appear on the CSOL (he's a Software Tester). Now, we've seen a website that says the following for his job (I'll also put the link below as well): "As the occupation features on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL), it is possible to apply for a Skilled Nominated 190 visa, a Skilled Regional Nominated 489 visa or a number of employer sponsored visa options if you have a firm offer of employment." http://www.visabureau.com/australia/anzsco/jobs/software-tester-job-australia.aspx Is it possible for him to apply for a Skilled Nominated 190 visa with this profession? The whole difference between SOL and CSOL is really confusing and we don't want to invest the time and money if this isn't the best option for us. If anyone could offer any insight or advice it would be greatly appreciated. We really want to get the ball rolling so he doesn't have to do selective work to extend his Working Holiday for another year and so he can get his PR asap, we've noticed that a lot of the jobs available are full time and no one will take him on due to the limitation of only being able to work for one employer for 6 months. Thanks guys
  7. Hi everyone thanks for the replies, my email inbox hasn't been informing me that anyone had replied until today haha. Thanks for that PatW sounds like a great idea!
  8. Hi everyone I'm Terri (22) and my boyfriend is Ben (27). We have recently moved to Brisbane from the UK (Manchester) and are a tad lonely on the friend, hence why I'm posting this haha! We love having bbqs and having drinks along with everything else that involves socialising! We'd love to meet up with like minded people who enjoy similar things so send us a message if you fancy it! Thanks Terri & Ben
  9. Hi guys, Just wanted to ask a quick question, I'm emigrating out to Oz in just under a month and I'm looking at taking out travel insurance. What is the difference between a single trip and emigration insurance? Single trip on travel insurance websites always appear to ask for a return date even though it is a single trip so slightly confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated! P.S. Any recommendations would also be a plus!
  10. Thanks guys! Will have to start having a look for removal comanies now.
  11. Thanks for the responses. Yes it will be a permanent move. Could anyone recommend any shipping companies that dont charge an arm and a leg haha?
  12. Hi everyone, Me and my family are moving to Aus in July 2014 and we are just wondering whether to ship furnishings or buy when we get there. Our goods aren't of significant importance or value so we're just looking at the cheapest way to furnish when over there. Would just like an insight as to what other people recommend. Please include recommendations as to what shipping companies to use or where to buy furniture out there in the area of Queensland. Thanks!
