  1. Hi to all those parents trying to get out to be with family xx I am one of the "children" and we are heading back out to Perth this year once the house is sold. I am just enquiring on my parents behalf what visa they might be able to obtain to get out there. My mum has enquired before but because more of her children (I have 4 other brothers/sisters) reside in the UK she wouldn't be able to get a parents visa-if that makes sense?!? Thanks to anyone taking the time to reply, Jess xx
  2. Hi Taylors4, unfortunately, not until maybe Aug/Sep at the earliest if we can. I would go tomorrow if I could. But hubby has been speaking to a couple of contacts he has in Perth re: work and there is not a lot. They both reckon end of this year, beginning of next will get busier (he is a carpenter) . I have a 4 year old starting primary in Sep and 11 year old starting high school, am hoping neither of them will have to start as such a big change then another change going to Oz (again!) So, good luck with your move, hope all goes smoothly and would love to hear you experience with the move and using DFD, best of luck Jess x
  3. Hi all, Just to say been emailing DFD over last few days-very helpful-a lot lot cheaper (at least less than half) than other quotes we've had in so far (4 and counting!!) and after asking Andy every question under the sun he has been brilliant and very quick in answering all my questions. He Quoted that insurance up to the value of $50,000USD maritime insurance is included in the price, which after looking on the exchange site at monies, seems enough to me in British pounds-approx. £32,779. One less thing to worry about!! Just got to get all the kids packing!!! HA HA
  4. Hiya all, we were looking at returning to Perth this year, however, after much research, there doesn't seem to be much carpentry work for OH. We are desperate to make the move back to Oz but can't if there is no work!! We were just wondering what the work situation is like for carpenters in Queensland. We particularly like Robina and Mudgeeraba as places to settle with our 4 girls (12,11,4,2) so any helpful advice would be much appreciated, Thanks, Jess xxxx:wink:
  5. Thank you all for your replies-helps knowing there is work to go to for hubby, heard so many negative things about work, it is great to hear a positive about it-think we just need to make the move and hope for the best!!! Just wondered also whereabouts in Perth your mate is based?
  6. Hello, your post jumped out at me and I felt I had to tell you our experience. We had been in Perth for 1.5 years with 2 young children both at school, quite settled and happy, enjoying life!! Then we decided to have another baby-as soon as I was pregnant I was soooo homesick it was a shock! The hormones certainly kicked in and I wanted my mum!! The memories of our two children with their grandparents and knowing that the new baby wouldn't have that-broke my heart!! The thought of our children growing up without any extended family upset me on a daily basis-we decided to sell up and go home. We couldn't sell our house at the time, so stayed and got citizenship (So glad we got that) and had the baby there (best experience by far-the hospital midwives were fantastic) then we decided to sell up again once we had the baby. When she was 10 months old we sold our house and came back to the UK. At first everything was great-seeing family again, the beautiful green trees, even shopping in Tesco, we even decided to go for a fourth child!!! But, then reality kicked in and we deeply regretted coming back. We have now spent the last 3.5 years back in the UK and 2.5 years desperate to get back to Perth. Having bought a house here that needed renovating, we have had to complete that before doing anything. We are now finally at the end and looking at coming back this year. We will be financially worse off, but can't wait-even our two older children want to return. We do not have half the quality of life that we did as a family when we were in Perth. So, that's us, our lives have been on hold renovating the property in the UK, wishing we were in Perth! But, now we are ready to go back and finally start living again. I know it is hard when you are pregnant with no family, and I can't tell you what to do for the best, but remember, your very hormonal, which does effect the way you feel. Try and make more friends and get out, remember why you moved there in the first place. I wish you lots of luck with the pregnancy and any decisions you make. Jess xxx
  7. Hi everyone, Am hoping to relocate back to WA this year (me 36, hubby 38, four girls 12, 11, 4 & 2) and was just wondering if anyone knew what the work situation is like for carpenters at the moment? Hubby has worked in Perth a few years ago for a company mostly doing fixing carpentry in private homes, extensions, fitted wardrobes, door hanging, skirting etc as well as general building. We know things are a bit slow at the moment and if there isn't enough work then we won't be able to make the move (sob! sob!) So any advice would be greatly appreciated. Should also put that we are looking at NOR!! Thanks a lot Jess xx
  8. Hi Iron Chef, First time on here, we're looking at going back to WA this year and wondered if it was worth taking our family car and hubby's work van? Car is a Mitsubushi Shogun Elegance, 2005, about 80,000 miles on the clock, worth about £9,000 here, $20,000-$30,000 on car sales Van is a Vauxhall Vivaro Sportiv, 2008, about 60,000 miles on clock, worth about £8,000 here. Both in good condition, be great if you could give us as A!!! HA HA Thanks a lot Jess
