  1. I am unconcerned at what you need (the 'any of us' statement is designed to show that 'we all feel this'. Many agree with you. Fine. Let them speak for themselves and I will respond if addressed. No big deal). If you choose to start a thread, you have to expect both agreement and disagreement. The problem you are having is that I don't agree with your pov. I'm coping well with the fact that you don't agree with me.. I then tried to get it in context, that is all. The subject is Beiber-OK, but I tried to show why it is so ludicrous to go after this daft kid. I tried to make it clear that I was no pushover on bad behaviour. Beiber was target 2013. He became increasingly brash and defensive. It then got worse. If this happened to my child or grandchild, I would come out in their defence, and I doubt you would do any different. His family reacted as family does. It might have been different if he had committed a heinous crime, but he did not. They came out in his defence and thus they are criticised! I too don't need a lecture. It appears you put up the thread for support not discussion. As a discussion forum that might pose a problem..
  2. Oh boy! So pissing on to his fans is our fault? Once the pack instinct comes into play it matters little what anyone says-it will be interpreted as you have done so. This silly kid has been hounded. He's even talking about retiring (which he won't I feel sure) but it's what that signifies. He is behaving badly at times, but it's the chicken and egg thing isn't it? Why? Spears shaved her head. As Bunbury mentioned-look at Culkin. These people get chewed up and spat out. You think I'm making excuses for bad behaviour? Think again. Two men have just been found guilty-I would like to see them executed. I have been involved in matters relating to the abuse of children. All in this case did not survive. I have a seething anger for those who got such light sentences, and frankly a hatred for the bureaucrats who presided over a system that knowingly sent these toddlers and young kids to their death. Look up American bootcamps. Over 36 teenagers have been 'exercised' and starved to death since 1980 alone. Very few have been held accountable for this legal State sanctioned abuse. More??? you want more?? I got a million of 'em. Whilst we line up to follow the gutter press and have a go at these young 'stars' our attention is taken from those who really need to be taken down.
  3. A large part of the problem I suspect is that you know full well that this man controls your destiny. For the life of me I will never understand how we as a human race allowed ourselves to be treated so badly by corporates who market us to death and deliver so little, and by this kind of system which is in effect legal human trafficking. It is a totally exploitative system. I think btw that you mean you have to get to January 2015. If you are so unhappy I would frankly pull the plug. The reason you are continuing is based on a tenuous statement made by an unpleasant man. You are holding on in the hope of a legal situation that will allow you to stay and work in Australia. You seriously need to weigh up if it is what you really want. I had little affection to be blunt with the calibre of most people I met-but one lovely person assisted me in coming home. I am quite sure that person was not the only decent one in Australia!!! What I'm trying to say is that if you do not feel an affinity with those you work with, are you going to feel that in general? I did. IF there is a chance of that, then the pursuance of an end goal might not be worth the angst? I know it is easy for me to say, but for me personally (OK lads and lassies? the disclaimer), I wasted at least 30 years of my life being where I did not want to be. Work out if it's worth it. If you believe it is; grin and bear it. If not? start packing. Don't destroy your health on the hope that things may improve; particularly when that is something someone else currently controls. (Which reminds me: I must ring Bloody Terrible. Known to most as BT).
  4. This is kind of a 'light' topic, and not one I would normally respond to (sorry but that's the truth). However, there is actually a stong principle at play here: Bieber was the 2013 target. As a human race we actually DO have a pack hunting instinct. Not so long before that it was Brittany Spears. She was literally hounded by the paps, and I have little doubt that they contributed to her (very public) breakdown. I neither like or dislike Bieber, but I don't subscribe to the 'fair game/heat in the kitchen' principle. He was targeted and he couldn't put a foot right. As a 'young buck' type, he fought back; which made it worse. This kid is no more or less flawed than many others-he blustered it out.......it got worse. His Gran is right. Of course she is biased, but she is right. The paps will find another target and Bieber will get some respite, but he IS a 'marked man'. I would really love to see the table turned on these parasites, but whilst we ('you') buy their rags, their grubby reign will continue.
  5. 'ere tis: (I copied; I won't know if it's a live link until posting). http://www.cbonline.co.uk/private/offshore-migrant-banking/migrant-banking-private/apply-for-a-uk-bank-account/ It shows Clydesdale Bank which I believe is now only Scotland??? Go through the fields and it shows their partner Yorkshire Bank (who are all owned by NAB Australia). Don't bother going into NAB for this, it has to be done online. YB are OK, Clydesdale have been interesting..... I couldn't show up any one bank with a glowing reputation btw!! NB: Be mindful of the fact that any funds you put into a UK bank from Australia, cannot be accessed until on UK soil.
  6. ...................and away we go again, same 'ol, same 'ol. It is a simple question, not a UN debate. Always the competition, and only Australia v UK. Ad nauseum. I DO actually mean this sincerely believe it or not: thanks for the laugh! It is always amusing to see someone so staunchly promote what they have no experience of. Ditto. Ditto. Do you see the irony in this comment??? ______________________________________________ I like reading all opinions, that's why I multiquote. It's interesting. But I didn't bother to finish reading the thread this time, because I have read this before. Repeatedly. Was it impossible to just answer the OP's question without the usual? Apparently so.
  7. Yorkshire/Clydesdale Bank. Look it up online. It can be done from Australia quite easily. Barclays too, but they want a minimum £5000 deposit, which is annoying, because some folks don't have that amount. They have as much right as others to open a bank account. Yorkshire. They were very nice.
  8. Off topic perhaps, but I once saw a highlighted 'Judge Judy' clip. The defendant was Johnny Rotten. The bloke was sensible and logical in his defence, and the Judge appeared to like and respect him. Establishment and anti establishment had a rapport!
  9. I can only hope so. I had started to wonder.. He was indeed a gutless coward. I see no reason to change that. I care little whether 'British tourists and others sought court with him',-what empty lives they must lead. Nothing ameliorates what an arrogant smarm this man was. Do I think the sentence was excessive though? Yes. Jargon and the need to categorise (for all of us) is so handy! Anything that involves the word 'hero' (anti of otherwise)-and 'Biggs' in the same sentence is personally unpalatable. I think this is partly true. However, I think this man simply wanted to die at home. Whilst I do not want him to 'rot in hell' or some such, I'm glad that he finally obliged. Is/was he the worst of criminals? Well of course not! But look at the debate this pathetic man has caused. Any possible respect should go to Charmaine (sp?) and what she subsequently achieved. No. The worst crime of all is to offend The System. It would have been highly unlikely sentence would be reduced on Appeal........on return to the country after running away. Actually, whilst he wasn't rich, he did lead a life of comfort in Rio thanks to the generosity of friends. It isn't such a handy place to be when age and ill health kick in. Biggs was nothing if not resourceful. He did not pay his debt to society. Mr Mills has my respect. I don't know what happens in the afterlife, but I hope he has a talk with this cardboard cutout of a man. Great posts all!
  10. Well Biggs-at least you generated interesting debate! Two wrongs make a right? I agree about the excessive commentary thing though. A death notice would have sufficed. He did not of course pay 'many times over' for the crime committed. He went to great lengths to ensure that. It's gut wrenching isn't it? As is the need to defend aberrant behaviour of one individual/group dependent on political philosophy. Nicely put! I hope you get well soon. Then that's OK then... Ach the pooer wee bubby. No suggestion was made that Biggs battered anyone btw... Oopsie, We do not agree on other matters. On this?- absolutely. Not just the media. I hope to get well soon also, because the need to defend this man nauseates me. Concur. It's horrendous isn't it? The 'end of' thing I mean? At least it frees you up from responding to one poster, and we can concentrate on poor Mr Biggs.
  11. Backbone is facing bullets and bombs-when you have to be there, rather than want to be. Backbone is any amount of good people who do difficult jobs under extreme circumstances. Such people are to be found the world over. I have no interest in any press tabloid or otherwise. It seems that there never was a time when facts were reported rather than opinions. (This has typed itself into the next quote? I'm not starting the process again). Today that is an art form. I am (dammit! WHY is text playing up?).....I am quite capable of making the distinction. So? my opinion is that Biggs was a spineless coward. ....."greedy bankers" and "chinless wonders in the corporate world". Such a tedious and frankly ludicrous argument. What crimes exactly you think corporate bods have committed? And was it all of them? Perhaps you could lodge a police report if you believe a crime has been committed. I do not think it tedious at all. The culture of greed is rooted in the finance industry. It has caused innumerable problems; destroyed lives-and led to suicide in some cases. Occupy Wall street is still going, but our global 'free' press do not report it. Rather than contempt for their cause I admire them. 'Lodge a Police report'? You of course jest. What these creatures are doing is legal. That makes it OK doesn't it? It does indeed doesn't it? It is useful tool for minimising culpability and responsibility. It could be validly argued that the sentencing was manifestly excessive (crimes that offend system are always thus judged. Crimes that offend society incur far lesser sentencing-if at all). Biggs' time in prison was negligible, and those last years were not spent breaking bricks. Compassionate grounds? Compassion is so selective isn't it?
  12. I have far more concern for the life of the train driver who had the quality of his life shattered and died early. I have absolutely no interest in this man's death, minor or major player. He led a life of deceit, and was arrogant and boastful when he lived in South America. The ailing old man then returns home to sympathy and understanding. Biggs was a gutless coward.
  13. I do agree. Thankfully this one is not a sensitive...soul, it was another poster who incorrectly asserted that.. Personally I have the absolute right to give my reasons for returning, as have others. This is a discussion forum; how can discussion occur unless an opinion is expressed rather than a simple statement? Inevitably other posters are going to ask the obvious question: 'why are you returning?' I suggest the real 'sensitivity' lies with those who need to justify their decision to migrate to Aus and/or those who are simply obsessed with preserving the SSS image of Australia. I fully understand private forums for private issues, OR if each forum is matched with a private counterpart. However, I'm happy that many here are comfortable relating their experience-negative or positive on an open forum just like others are able to do in other forums here. I also believe something quite simple: go onto the Ausforum/s and bag Aus and expect the flack. In my view that is like being invited to someones house and then criticising their decor. I won't do it. Talking about return reasons in the appropriate forum should not engender the harping criticism incessantly happening here-usually from the same posters. That is all I'm saying. Yes. This saddens me. Here I am at odds with some here whose opinions I would broadly support. I have to admit I find it surprising that-given the defensiveness* of Ausbodies (*is that to be the next 'discussion'?), there are such spirited attacks on other States. Adelaide usually takes a drubbing, but on PIO it appears to be Perth. I lived in Adelaide. Relatives in Perth. Preferred Perth. I think MetroPerth is vastly superior to Adelaide. Tasmania was my favourite. I hated my time in Australia, but I will not attack any individual State. Those that love the State of their choice should not have to have their home constantly ridiculed. That sounds so familiar......
  14. Sanity? It's a subjective thing isn't it? I appreciate you proving your point so well. Thank-you. However there (sic) sanity need not be questioned on their own forum section, though I note you feel the need to repeatedly visit and do so. There's that sanity thing again! If I were you I would have a field day with the wicked souls who question there (sic) sanity on the Happyozzie section/s, it's a damned disgrace. And I must say I do love the deference to 'two moderators'. It has such kudos doesn't it? Who (in their right mind???) would want to be in lockdown with a 'totally bleached view of returning to the UK?' Come outside and take it on the chin like the brave ozzies is what I say. .....I suppose you could get up a petition to be afforded the same 'luxury' and not have the chin damage? What do you think? (And my original post still stands. I appreciate your zealous assistance in proving its point. Thank-you again).
  15. I was simply explaining why it shouldn't be necessary. Those not embracing the living dream should not have to do so 'in hiding'. The fact that a private forum was created for them is very telling. I am extremely grateful to those who have the courage to relate their experiences on an open forum. ...........just like everyone else. Personally my very recent return to the UK was akin to waking from a 37 year coma. I am quite serious. I care little that others might not like this view. (...................and when I can get my damned email operating I might even say hello to a few folks. Currently I cannot.....) Thank-you for your post though.
  16. Specific to MBTTUK ONLY: WHY on Earth do posters have to incessantly justify their decisions? WHY are they unable to explain WHY they are returning to the UK? WHY do they have to be 'deeply unhappy' (even in their relationships??? Is nothing sacred?) Any and every aspect of the outlook of those who are unhappy in Australia/are returning to the UK/want to return to the UK-becomes fair game? WHY if Australia is such a wonderful place should migrants have to take paper rounds or work as orderlies? This opinion is based SOLELY on the principle of 'you can't have it both ways'. IF Australia is so good then why is it necessary to downgrade on skills? As a First World country that has been over promoted for many decades as the primary location for British migration -WHY is there the necessity to downgrade skills? Because of course it is NOT 'living the dream' at all. WHY is it so necessary to suggest to those here on THIS forum- that they had some kind of over inflated view of Australia (ergo: it is your fault), when both Governments and media in both countries have incessantly over marketed Australia? To see and hear the misleading nonsense that is constantly peddled by UK and Australian media of sun/surf/sand/BBQ/.....Fantasy homes downunder (fantasy being the operative word there)-is frustrating in the extreme. Because it sends a false message. WHY is there such a need to blame the UK migrant when the over promotion has come from such powerful sources? WHY do they end up having to 'explain themselves' as if they are in some kind of Tribunal? WHY if you and you and you who have settled in Australia successfully repeatedly come to this forum to criticise returnees? Are you not confident in your own decisions? Do you not have a wide choice of topics here on PIO to discuss the merits of Australian living? .............and the worst offenders are our fellow countrymen and women- whether now naturalised Australian or not. THE worst offenders. And it will continue won't it? You won't quit the compelling and obsessive need to question the intelligence/personality/and general outlook of those who do not wholeheartedly embrace the one true God: Australia. Does it ever occur to you that this actually says a lot more about you then those you feel the need to criticise? Tbh- if those who are returning/want to return/.....and shock! horror! those who simply do not like Australia venture into other forums to take a shot at Australia; go for it. You have plenty of areas here to do so. MBTTUK should be a 'safe haven' of discussion for those who have reason to post here. It is not against forum rules. They should not have to repeatedly run the gamut of harping criticism ON THIS SPECIFIC FORUM.
  17. Hello to Blobby. I was thinking that what might help you would be to go back a good while and start reading your PIO posts from that period. It would give you your mindset as a resident in Australia, and provide a balance to your current feelings. It is a very valuable resource which may help you.

    Cat Leads

Hello, There are two people in my neighbourhood who do this. One has a Siamese, and the other a very hairy cat! I do not know the breed. They take them around the local streets. Both animals seem perfectly happy and clearly enjoy their walks. These people have won a lot of respect around here for doing this. A neighbour is also going to do the same thing when her new cat arrives. It is starting a trend which is good.
