  1. Hey, I stayed there twice for couple nights at a time, while being back in perth. Has a big warehouse type building which houses pool table, table tennis, projector, tv, big kitchen (One of the better ones ive seen) Seems a big hostel, never stayed long enough to really get to know people and was with other people when i stayed. Not far from the city either, i had a smart rider card, so it was free travel on the train to the city to which was a bonus. Benvo
  2. Generally next to a station, or close to one and you will be fine. I'm in kings cross and its 5 mins walk to train station, and about that to town hall station (cbd) I been in kings cross over 2 weeks, and seems alright here, very party at the weekends and special week nights. Supposedly its the red light district though and bad at times, not that I've seen anything as of yet though. Also some hostels more central to the city, but have no experience on them. Benvo
  3. Hey, I arrived in Perth at end of April, me and another traveller found it very difficult to get work, mainly they wanted residents for things we applied for which meant we spent 6 weeks chasing work. Ended up getting some work out of the city towards regional. Also further south like Margaret River managed to get some work, but that will be seasonal. Ive come over to Sydney, only really to travel, and by chance i applied for a job, and was offered it in my first week of being here. And seems to be alot of work around compared to what i remember seeing when was job hunting in Perth. Maybe I just got lucky here and unlucky in Perth lol! Benvo
  4. Thanks for the replys.I worked in that job on a 8 week contract. But only 2 weeks before the end of this tax year just gone. Yeh seems to be a thin line between one or the other, as first job told us to select not a resident for tax purposes. But an agency we applied to told us to tick yes as we are residents for tax purpose lol!May end up phoning tax office up and ask advice on which option i need to select to be on the safe side.ThanksBen
  5. Yes im on a whv, found the right forum just forgot to put it in the post lol! Benvo
  6. Hi there, Currently in oz, i seem to be reading and getting told different things in relation to claiming tax back. I only have 2 weeks worth of tax to claim so not worth paying someone 50-100 dollars to only get 250 back lol! I have downloaded etax and gone through, but the problem seems to be with the question are you a resident for tax purposes i click no it says i owe tax as an estimate and as yes, it says i will get the 250 back. But when i read online and talk to people here. One person will say tick yes as you are and one will say tick no as technically your not but you will get it refunded once they look at it in the tax office. Any advice on what im supposed to do would be great. Thanks Benvo
  7. Yeh liquids are boxed and sealed then you have to hand over at the gate. Used my card at duty free and was told could pay in gbp via card but they still charged be in local currency and had to pay a £1.25 foreign currency fee. Thanks Benvo
  8. I have recently set up with NAB, everything was easy enough, and with use of money corp, easy enough to transfer money in before you go. Which is what i have done and all be good so far. Benvo
  9. Hi there, me and a friend fly on 25th and we have a 1hr 55 stopover in Dubai Airport, a read of the other recent post answered a few of my questions. We are changing planes, or from i can make out from my info (different plane number and different version of plane, 777-330 on way there and 777-300er on way to perth). So will be looking for next gate, then prob looking at food, duty free etc... Assuming enough time. But my main question is what currency will we need when get there, i have googled but some of the answers are dated etc... Will we be ok with some AUD, or will we better of with some gbp? Or do we need to look at a small amount of the Dirhams? If gbp is ok, is a normal visa debit card going to be alright or better off with cash? and i ask that as everytime i spend on visa debit and its taken in a different currency i get charged for it. Or will they actually charge in gdp, meaning no charges. Many Thanks Benvo
  10. I personally looked at outbackers too, but you need an extra activity pack to cover work which made the price increase to about £230. And 24 7 insurance, was cheaper as they cover working in there standard activity pack that's included. Have have other options to upgrade to activity wise and an excess waiver option Benvo
  11. Just booked the 25th April, to get there 26th April! What have i just done!? lol! Benvo
  12. Haha crazy quick aint it, we was expecting a week or so, so half an hour later was very surprised to have the granted email! Also looking at booking our flights finally this week, as we have decided on a exact date to go! Such a nervous/exciting time lol! Benvo
  13. Hi there, yeh i applied direct, was very straight forward and simple, and actually heard back within 30 mins - 1 hour. Benvo
  14. They advise $5000, and im also thinking of £3000 to take with me which be $4230 at todays rough exchange rate. But i am going on the hope to get a job as soon as i can when get there. As would rather do my working to start with then add more money to spend the latter end of my working holiday when i plan do travel a bit more. oh and do know of friends who went with £1500-2000 and were fine, but could of just been lucky lol! Benvo
  15. Just been reading some reviews about sta travel and multiflex pass. Not good! Seems to be a nightmare to get a response unless you post on there facebook wall. Hmmm i wonder if there is any alternatives from other companies? as in principal the product seems to be great. Should hopefully be booking soon, just need get dentist out the way, to make sure i aint got to go back, i be looking to book straight away. Very nervous times lol! Benvo
  16. From what i can find, as im looking at emirate flights, it says : Date changes are permitted for a minimum airline fee of GBP75. All changes are subject to availability and ticket conditions. An agent administration fee of GBP45 or equivalent applies. Sorry assuming you call direct its only £75 to change dates. But the different in tax, you would have to do this direct as well wouldn't you? I spoke to someone on the phone today from sta travel as was told as long as you are flexible and give them enough time, changing without any extra charge would be quite easy. I understand that changing flight from a non peak to peak time would incur a cost, but like i said before im assuming thats the same if it was direct? Correct me if im wrong, as not 100% sure obviously. Thanks Benvo
  17. Hey, thanks for the reply, did you go for the no excess package? was it all straight forward etc? Thanks Benvo
  18. Ah thats not good to say the least! have you tried looking on skyscanner? they may give a few different prices for time of year you want to go? Benvo
  19. Applied direct for mine, online form takes about 10-15 mins at max, just general questions and other details off your passport. Nothing to hard. Just be careful what card you use, natwest charged me 3% for non sterling transaction lol! Going to look at the work for 2nd year visa, and have also thought the summers going to be the best time to get work, but pretty sure its going to be hotttttttttttt lol! Benvo
  20. hey, Looking at going out there mid April, as long as everything goes to plan, guna book flights soon, but gotta wait for referral for dentist first as need wisdom teeth out. Rather get it done here than there lol! Haha welcome to the club, me and my mate was expecting a week at earliest for visa to come back, when we got email back half hour later was like ahhhh lol! Im 23 and my friend will be 25. Both done the whole uni thing, and worked for a bit and got no where basically, so while we got the chance going do what we can! Plus will look good on the cv im sure lol! Yeh, your going to need one date change for sure to extend flight to full year, so have the extra 2 will be a nice safety incase anything happens. Benvo
  21. Hey Jaymeeo, Havn't actually spoke to anyone at statravel, as only been looking online at there flights and multi flex pass thing. But seem to be cheapest out there at the moment, as aslong as the multi flex does what it says, i cant find anything like it elsewhere. Be nice to have option to change dates of return in case of emergency etc... Talked with my mate about doing sometime in hong kong if we went via there, but we both did come to the conclusion would take extra spends, or would eat into money we would be taking. But i am looking at doing some farm work for 2nd year visa, so could always do that later on way back out. Looked at a few sim cards yeh, seem to have some reasonable rolling 30 day sim cards, but have read its the coverage you have to look at for where in australia where you want to use them so yeh is baffling to say the least lol! Yeh must admit dont think id be able to do it alone, as either way i was going with a mate, or going to stay with a friend in perth. But i have a friend who went over a few years ago, he met up with some friends who were travelling, but he actually stayed on his own in the end when they moved on. And he loved it! so each to the own i spose. Wait till you get your visa, they the nervous/excitement really steps up a grade lol! Hey lebourvellec, I have seen the NAB account mentioned before, thanks for confirming how it works, sounds easy enough! Would be nice to have it all done before i go, so like you it only be a case of picking up the cards etc... And postal code for Medicare and tax number be fine, as my friend lives in perth, so ill be able to have post go there, just incase moved on before post comes Hey HLSvictory, Just had a look at 24-7 insurance, quotes seem reasonable there premier package coming out at 188.02, main difference being they have some higher values on medical etc... but they do have excess, but duno what is more important the higher medical values or excess. The reason im looking at no excess, is in case of emergency, dont really want to be dealing with trying sort money out to pay excesses. And ill have a google of citibank account, see how they compare. Many Thanks for all the replies Benvo
  22. Thanks for your reply. Going on a working holiday visa so no kids to worry about. Im from the UK and english is my first language, so assume i wont need the English classes i assume? Driving license wise, i read that you can drive for a year on your working holiday visa, with your UK license, as your classed as a tourist? Tax number and medicare i was sure opened when you get there, so thanks for confirming that. Bank account i believe i can apply before hand, within so many days of travelling to Australia by doing it online? Many Thanks Benvo
  23. Hi there, so now I have my WHV granted (). I would like your advice to see if I've thought of everything, and if I have the right idea on what I've looked into. First off flights, looking to go in April at the earliest and I've found emirate flights for £710 with STA travel, and looking at getting there multi-flex passes, if for only the main reason, to extend the flight so get the full year out there. But also good safety net for if anything was to happen so could change dates if needed to get back for any reason. Am I thinking along the right lines ? Next I know when in Australia I can apply for Medicare, but I have also looked at travel insurance, the best I have seen its from outbackersinsurance, and they have a gold package which has nil excess across the board for £154.52. Is that a good roundabout price? and also ill post the values below, am I looking at the right amounts? We are going to be looking for work when we get there, to hopefully secure something casual so that the spends aren't getting ate through straight away. How long is reasonable time to expect to stay in hostel? with the main aim being looking for a house share or even to looking a renting (dependant on jobs) as have seen some 6 month leases on the net, and would be happy, if enjoying Perth, to spend a 6 months spell in Perth, as I also have a childhood friend who lives there. I have read and had posts on another thread about bank accounts, it looks like a easy online application no earlier than a month before entering Australia. Also tax number I have to apply for once I'm there if I remember correctly? Jobwise, is casual work that easy to come by? by that I mean, not going with any intention to do a specific type of work, and will look at doing anything. I have read online that Perth is generally quite good for work? Sorry for the essay, but wanted to include as much info as I can. Feel free to post about anything ive missed, or not 100% on. I have prob still forgot to post about something ive already looked into lol! Many Thanks Benvo
  24. Hey, I applied yesterday, and actually heard back within the hour! Was amazed at how fast it was as expected atleast a week waiting. Me and my mate are looking at starting in perth, mainly because have a friend who lives there, so good contact to start with. But we have had few friends go/start there and always done well in perth. Benvo
  25. Sorry for the delay in replying, have been busy with work at the moment, but this morning i took the plunge and applied for my WHV, and guess what, about an hour later, i have received an email stating i have been granted it!!!! Amazed at how fast it was, ive even had to log in online to make sure i was in disbelief!! lol! Benvo
