  1. Hi, have you done anything post graduate? I did the diploma too but was able to use the courses I had done after qualifying to get registered.
  2. Hi boomerang, would you be able to give me the details of Southern Cross Removals please, I tried Google but couldn't find a Melbourne site/number? Did you move over much? We have a house full! not huge amount though! We are looking at the eastern suburbs as would ideally like to only have one car and Husband used public transport to commute or cycle! That's if all goes to plan! Why did you leave Melbourne and choose Adelaide? Got so much to sort out in not long a time, as aiming to move the last week of September if we can, husband applying for jobs, so hopefully will all come together!
  3. Thank you for your comments/advice! We have pretty much decided to give Adelaide a go! I am actually surprisingly excited! So that's a good sign. Just getting quotes on moving now though, got one back was more than coming from UK! Do you have any suggestions of companies???
  4. Hi Ange, did you decide to move? we are thinking the same, not really settled in melbourne. visited adelaide felt more like home. wondered how you got on? seek is a good site to look at for work.
  5. I spent at least the first 8 months just wanting to get back on a plane home to the UK, then suddenly one day it did not seem so bad. skype is my saviour! i still get really down days, especially around family events, but have to think about why we did it and need to give it time. been here just over a year now. looking at moving interstate as have visited different areas and felt more at home. good luck to everyone feeling home sick as i know its sooo hard!
  6. No I haven't will have a look though. Thank you
  7. We felt more at home there, like you said I think everything being closer the beach and the city. The peninsula has lovely beaches but no character where as Adelaide does, I loved the student culture, arty etc. we lived near Brighton in Sussex before we moved here , it reminds me of there too. I am a nurse and my husband a physio so hoping work won't be too hard to come by. Would like to be near the city but where our three children can enjoy too. Worried how much it would cost to up sticks again and move, and moving schools aha gain for my son. Felt like going back to uk but also feel that maybe Melbourne just isn't for us, as so many positives for being here in Australia
  8. We currently live on the mornington peninsula although lovely haven't settled. We visited Adelaide and think it might be worth ago? Has anyone else done this? How did you go ? What did it cost to move? Are you happier ? What's it like living there ? Holidays always different , don't want to move children again unless we are sure. Any advice would be much appreciated !
  9. Hi, we came over and stayed in a property from stayz 5 of us for 8 weeks, we actually emailed stayz asking if some of the properties would accept a lower price per week and they did!! worth asking! especially as you are coming in winter and so more likely not to have the bookings, we got a place for I think 480 was a fair bit more advertised. goodluck
  10. Hi, There seems to be alot of history about the building of both hidden harbour and martha cove, lots of financial issues I think. Houses are going up and seemed to be selling not sure how quickly though. Bit of a building site, depends on if you want to buy as a long term investment or to live. Probally can get a real bargain buying off plan. Once properly built think it has real potential, but that could be relatively soon or in many years! Once the new link to melbourne is built I think there is a real potential for a lot of people from the city moving down, which potentially could have a real impacted on all the housing around the area.
  11. Hi, if you have the recipricol agreement with medicare you get emergency treatment like you would in england if needed, and if admitted tests etc the doctor feels necessary would be on medicare,(i am sure i have this right) you have to pay a 1.5 levy out of your salary towards medicare. its worth getting ambulance vic cover so if you need an ambulance you dont have to pay , thats not very expensive. we came on a 457 visa the insurance premium was huge because of the visa type when i rang iselect, so didnt get it now on PR can get a much better deal, but as mentioned by others the gap is big, so worth really looking into plans first, BUPA seem to have recently come out here not sure what they are like?!
  12. Hi, mount martha, mornington, mt eliza or frankston south all nice areas. some have roads you would want to avoid living near just like in uk. but great areas for schools, shops, commuting, beach and making friends. we came out a year ago with 3 children similar ages, have settled in mount martha they love it, near the beach lots of parks, and lots going on. good luck with your decision, i know its a hard one as it makes such a difference where you go to start with! liz
  13. Hi, we live in mount martha, we dont commute as work locally, but the new freeway is ment to make quite a difference in times and lots of people who live this way commute into CBD, and from what I have been told is not a hassle. Mt Eliza, frankston south and Berwick to me are each quite different areas. what do you want out of the area you live in? do you have children? liz
  14. Hi, we went through stayz when we came out here, as was also out of season we were able to negotiate a price. we stayed in mount martha only 10 - 15 minutes from mt eliza. definately worth looking at stayz website! goodluck liz
  15. Hi, I dont know if this might help but have a look on the Diabetes australia website for info, there is also a scheme NDSS (national diabetes society scheme) i think thats what it stands for. If you register with them you can get test strips etc cheaper. I dont know the full details but I know they encourage diabetics over here to join the scheme. you may be able to get a contact from them to give you more of an idea of costs?! good luck liz
