  5. I also went back last July after only been in OZ for 8 months, I didn't want to come back last July but did because of my Sons HSC exams, so decided to stick it out abit longer. My father died in January this year but I'd already made my mind up last July Oz wasn't for me. So basically I was 8 months in and knew I didn't want to spend the rest of my life here. My son likes Australia and the UK as he left just before his GCSE. So we feel we owed it too him to get his HSC. I only wanted to come to OZ for a holiday as we all had return flights but my OH was offered a job so that was the decider to come and give it a go. In a matter of a couple of months the house in the UK was sold and we were on the plane here. My daughter is happy to go back to the UK she is 10, she has mad a couple of friends here also. My OH works 14 hours a day and also some weekends, so I have been so isolated and feed up. We lived out in the stick for the first year only to look at cows and gum trees, but the last 10 months in a nice village. We had a lovely house in the UK and all my family and OH are in the UK. It's a no brainer for me I love the UK and don't regret leaving OZ. I'm sure your son will be fine if family are around to support him. I don't think going back for Xmas is too early to go back it will be good for your sole. Take care
  6. Hi I'm a Geordie returning 6 weeks time, only been here nearly 2 years in NSW. I was back in January and loved it, shops were fantastic, & History & Culture, even saw some snow. You have everything on the doorstep Northumberland which is beautiful , Scotland, lakes,York . Somerset only 5 hours away. 2 hours flight to Europe. I hope you have a wonderful time , best of luck. Oh I also live near the blue Mountains!!!
  7. We all have doubts and these feeling, its normal. You may all love it, just cover yourself if after the Honeymoon period is over, incase you want to return back for any reasons Flights are very costly and removal companies . Hope I'm not scaring you but if you read some post ppl can't afford to get home. Do lots of research first. Good luck
  8. Hi Karen, I totally understand your feelings,we arrived here October 2010 due to OH job.I wanted to return a year ago,but were made to feel guilty about dragging son out of high School etc etc, by OHs sister who lives here in OZ who was always asking me why I wanted to go back to the UK. Now I realize that these so called family members didn't have a close family in the UK or rather loving which I have. I really regret not leaving last year as my father died this January and have missed spending time with him At last I'm going in 6 weeks time with my daughter , while my Son & husband stay until his HSC exams are finished. So if it's not for you like you said it's a wonderful country, but too expensive for us and too far away. Good luck

  10. Hi Don't burn your bridges, it may work out, but it would be terrible if Oz isn't for you. Good idea to send OH first to get some savings behind you. Shipping alone is very costly and flights back if need be. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
  11. Hi Soozan, I know how your feeling, I'm leaving in 7 weeks time back to Northeast UK. I've been here in NSW nearly 2 years by the time I go. I wanted to leave last year, but my son is in year 12 now and finishing his HSC. So I leave my husband and Son here until November and travel with my daughter who will start year 6 in September. I thought it would get easier but the longer I stayed the harder it was. I'm sure your doing the right thing if your heart is telling you it's not for you. I couldn't see myself as an old lady here, I miss family and everything the UK has to offer, the beaches are beautiful here, but if it not for you it's no use hanging around. I hope your back with your family soon. Take care Desperado
  12. I'm so sorry for you , I was not aware of this. How unfair. I have been in Oz now 18 months and plan to leave in July with my daughter. I came because of my husbands job, but hate it here. My husband loves it weve been married 20 years in the UK but had the problem of me not settling here. I often wish i never set foot on the plane. My husband is returning back 3 months after me Due to my son finishing his HSC exams. I hope !!, Your story is something that needs to be addressed!! Yes, they make it sound all brilliant on those stupid TV show Down Under they need to tell people the downside of life here. I hope you do get back one day with your son once he is 16 he might change his mind. Stay Strong
