  1. ah that makes sense lol yes think I'll ring them just before I go over and make an appointment if needed x
  2. thanks lorna hopefully I have as straightforward an experience as your friend!
  3. I've just sent off my application a few weeks ago so shouldn't need to pay again. Not sure why I need to go to Melbourne when they have an office in Adelaide. I'll be hitting the Adelaide office as soon after I arrive as I can......thanks for taking the time to reply and good luck! x
  4. I've got the PR visa and applied to Ahpra a while back. Just waiting (and waiting) for my Letter of Eligibility for Registration and we're heading to Adelaide next month. When I get to Adelaide, providing I have the letter, how do I go about getting my registration?? Do I just turn up at their office or do I need to make an appointment? Is there anything else I will have to do? do I need to get some sort of police check done? Just wondering if there is anything else I'm going to have to do before I'm able to start work....need to be earning asap!! thanks in advance for any replies x
  5. I sent mine also using DHL in WH Smith. I sent it on a Monday and it arrived on the Friday and was able to track it as it went along. I got an email from AHPRA the following Monday confirming they'd received it x
  6. same day for us.......after all this chaos I'll be delighted to live out of a suitcase for a while lol
  7. just boinging this up in case someone hasn't noticed it that can add to the above
  8. thanks for the info so far people, a few useful tips so very much appreciated x
  9. our container comes next week to take everything away. Just wondered is there anything you recommend we do in advance to make it easier? we know about cleaning stuff eg. the soles of shoes and aren't taking anything that's been outside (but will stick jeyes fluid over the wheels of our double buggy). I'm really looking for hints/tips re packing etc or some ideas that will help make things go a little smoother on the day.......thanks x
  10. why was wee Norn Iron left out??
  11. anyone got current quotes for a 20ft container? (We're moving from Scotland to Adelaide) we would just like to compare with others to get an idea of what an average fee is........obviously a bit of haggling is involved to get them down to as low as possible am I right in thinking freight costs went up at the beginning of this month? I guess this means that current prices will be higher than say those who got quotes for January
  12. double check what those companies are quoting for, those figures are what everyone else is being quoted for a 40ft container. Are you taking a lot of stuff over? Maybe they've quoted you for a 40ft as a 20ft is too small?
  13. surely if it was a problem you wouldn't have got on the nursing course in the first place? can't see how it would be a problem so long as you're open and honest about it but maybe contact a potential future employer and ask them if it would cause any issues? good luck!
  14. hi can you tell me when you have to import a car by? we have a car we're thinking of bringing with us, we've owned it for over 12 months. Do we need to ship it the same time we go over or is it ok to put it into storage for a while and ship it over at a later date eg. 6 months later? is there a time limit as to when it has to come over? thanks
  15. Health.Operations.Centre@immi.gov.au is the email address for Global Health. They no longer accept phone calls.....actually I don't think they respond to emails now either so maybe best to call DIAC and see if they can give you some information or chase things up for you x
  16. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...
  17. sorry this has probably been done to death but can't find the answers to everything i want to know..... if you took your car, what size of container did you use? would it be possible to use a 20ft or does it have to be a 40ft container? how are your belongings packed around the car? is the care protected in some way to prevent damage if something moves during transit? any hints/tips for taking a car in a container? or anything we should avoid doing? thanks in advance!
  18. my husband and I are both mental health nurses with 2 young children and are heading to Adelaide......just seems to have the right mix of cheaper property, weather, never too far from a beach, easy enough to get a flight to Melbourne/Sydney etc for weekends away to visit people and generally ticks a lot of boxes for us. May not be for you but worth a look
  19. I've seen this type of thing before too and never quite know what they want....one quick guide I use though is if you look at the houses on the bottom right of the page where it shows you other properties people are viewing, it kinda gives you an idea of the price range those people are looking at when they view that house (if that makes sense). i then figure the house must fall somewhere in a similar price range as the other properties suggested.......just an idea I go by though so don't quote me if Im wrong lol
  20. this should help: http://www.immi.gov.au/gateways/panel_doctors/conducting_medicals/instructions/panel-doctors-instructions.pdf
  21. so so sorry to hear of your loss but what a way to go having a last splash about before falling asleep in your arms, he couldn't have asked for better. He'll be having fun whilst waiting at Rainbow Bridge for you xx http://www.petloss.com/rainbowbridge.htm
  22. oh I wouldn't think they'd part with a penny.....all take and no give lol but it would be the fair thing to do.......fair, doubt they know that word though lol
  23. out of curiosity, if we're not going to get a pension based on what we've paid so far, then will they be refunding the years we have contributed before emigrating?
  24. I was with team 2 and found they could sometimes reply via email within 24hrs, other times they took a couple of weeks. During the last couple of weeks I was ringing them every few nights and they were always friendly and polite even though I was being a right pest so I'd say ring them and get your query answered x
