    schooling

I guess that's your opinion, her feeling was that she was doing it again. Also the children in her class were 8 and 9, she was used to being with 10/11 year old peers so not really the same but in a foreign country. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

    schooling

We arrived in oz with our daughter in August who had just turned 10 (August birthday) she would have been starting in year 6 in the UK in the September. We thought she would have been going into year 5 from August to Jan then starting in year 6 in the Jan. However given when her birthday fell she was placed into a year 3/4 composite class and went up into year 5 in the Jan which was a complete shock to us, she had to do year 5 again. X hope this helps. 6. Have read all of your posts, and have felt the same as you from about the 2nd week of being here, and I just don't think for me it's worth it,so off I go back home to the UK after only being here for 4 months. Good luck. x
  7. Going to beat you too it, ha ha only by a couple of days though xx
  8. I can't offer anything as I am so new in oz and already don't feel it will be for us, especially financially,we haven't managed to get a job as yet been here 6 weeks, so sending a hug instead.
  9. Hi, Yes he has a PR Visa he was assessed on a Systems Analyst
  10. Bromney, My husband can be an IT Manager, Business Analyst or SQL DBA as his role was all of these rolled into one in the UK. His problem is that he is a jack of all trades but not specialised in anything, and a lot of the roles require focus on one particular skill or experience.
  11. Thanks guys, just nice to know we are not alone, we are up north at the moment in Rutherford but will hopefully be down on the Central Coast in Umina in the next couple of weeks, maybe then we can start to explore what is around us. Looking at more Rentals this week, hopefully hubby will get this job tomorrow. Thanks again really appreciated
  12. Hi guys, I will probably get told I am mad for even saying this, I have only been here 6 weeks and really feel unsettled, hubby thinks it's great and it could be the happy ever after we were looking for to complete our lifestyle, kids are 50, 50, (some likes, some dislikes) I on the other hand just don't feel right, I am worried all the time, the usual, Can't sleep etc, the cost of living here seems so expensive, Not a shock to us as we did research in the UK but clearly not enough, we were of the opinion some things will be more expensive than others but it should work out, but we obviously didn't look at the bigger picture, we based our findings on earning the same money if not more than in the UK, but didn't bank on everything being so much more expensive and needing to earn about 25% more than the UK to break even, before we came it was said you will get a job no problem (hubby is an IT Manager) now we are here, we are being told hmmm really bad time for you to be starting out here, first it was no one is doing anything because of the election, now that is over it's yeah the market is unsettled and everyone is worried about the economy so not much turnover in the Job market,he has applied for some 50 odd jobs, getting an interview for one which is incredibly low wage and only half what we were on in the UK, but he has no choice as beggars can't be choosers. We have been told that if he doesn't get a job by Christmas he can kiss it goodbye until February as not much happens as Oz shuts down during this time, We are storming through our savings from the sale of our UK home and we aren't doing anything, believe me because of the cost of everything... we are shopping wisely going through the magazines and shopping in Aldi etc. My question is does anyone else feel the same? how did you cope? how long do you fight it for before you say enough is enough and go home? I feel such a failure and can't believe the extent we went to, to get here,we didn't look at it lightly because of the cost, the emotion of leaving friends and family, the good jobs that we gave up, etc etc, but I just feel like if only I could turn back the clock I would. Many thanks for taking the time and reading this. Dazeybear
  13. It certainly does look like the AUD is on the slide - how far it goes depends on the global economy and UK/US/Aus economies. A further Aus interest rate cut is likely in November so if you can hold out it might be worth it. However, you also need to consider that Mark Carney (new governor of the Bank of England) favours liquidity of the GBP to promote growth so there is the possibility of further QE at some point this year. If you don't need to use your cash straight away then it's also worth considering the effect putting it into a high interest term deposit account in Aus will have on your calculations - guaranteed to be a better rate than you are getting in the UK at the moment!
  14. Moneycorp has a limit of 30k per deal I believe - does anyone have any recommendations for moving a larger sum? e.g. 90k Would it be better to do a money market deposit for 1 transaction than 3 transactions with moneycorp? Who would be best for a money market deposit? I have a UK HSBC account and they say all I need to do is go into a branch when I arrive in Aus with photo ID and proof of address and they will open an account for me straight away.
  15. Hi all, Getting myself confused, my daughter turned 5 November 2012 and started school September prior to her birthday so will be leaving her reception class July 2013 and should have been going into year 1 in September. We are moving to Oz in August, will she have to repeat the equivalant when the new school year starts in January? or will she go into year 1, Not even sure if I understand myself so hope you guys do and can help. Many thanks Victoria
