  1. One of the reasons I've voted "out" is that no one in the "leave" campaign has tried to belittle me, insult me, or call me a "racist" for my political beliefs.
  2. If you're a rich Tory, or someone who likes back door socialism, yes. :-)
  3. Quite easily. You have mixed two people's motivations, trying to prove something which hasn't been claimed. Of course the Tories are in the pockets of big business, some Tories love the cheap labour and suppressed wages that EU immigration gives them access too Of course left wing voters in the UK enjoy the socialist mandates of the EU, specially when we have a UK Tory government. If you try to keep the issues and people separate, and not mix them up to try to prove something no one has claimed, you'll not confuse yourself so much.
  4. No one is relying on the "Empire", or even the commonwealth, that's just a strawman. The Uk as the fifth largest economy in the world is quite capable of compin on it's own, in fact some believe it would flourish outside of the EU monolith. Cameron and Osbourne want to "remain" as they are in the pockets of big business.
  5. There is little point in UK elections if government decisions are handed over to the EU, agreed.
  6. I looked into whether or not I had any NHS pension from the years I worked for them, (1991 to 2003, with a small break.) Turns out I have a small fund, which will pay £3463.00 pa and a £10,300.00 lump sum on hitting retirement age, or £3037.00 pa and £9,500.00 lump if I were to take it now. (age 57yrs,)
  7. Many who are voting "remain" are doing so as they voted for a Labour UK government, and didn't get one, so they want to remain in the EU to get socialism by the back door. The silly fools have not noticed that the Far Right parties are on a huge rise across the EU. So at the next EU election they may find that by remaining in they are under the aegis of a hard-right-wing EU government, one over which they have no influence.
  8. Just got our title deeds and land register documents in the post! Happy Thom

    Cousin Jack

I saw a car in Hawker today with a "Kernow" sticker on the back. I'd have loved to have said hello, as I lived in kernow for 10 years, and will be retiring back there in 2 years time. Anyone know who it was? (White Mazda 6)
  10. Cheers Keith and Linda. We will have rent money regularly deposited into our UK account from our tenants. As we no longer have a mortgage on the house, we want to make the best of any money going in.
  11. Has anyone here opened a UK savings account while living in Oz? Is it at all possible? We have a UK bank account, (with Lloyds,) but would like to have a regular savings account over there. Any advice?
  12. Our daughter got one at 14 yrs old, when she was old enough to work and pay for one.
  13. I'm registered and voting out. I'm returning to live in the UK in 2 years time, and need the $Au to be strong against the pound. (I also think the EU is a pretty bad deal for Blighty.)
  14. Just had confirmation we are mortgage free in the UK. Will be getting around £650.00 pcm in rents, which we will stick into a savings account for retirement, (unless someone can recommend a better way of using it?) Happy Thom.

Thanks Steve, I've got citizenship, so does that have any implications? How much tax would be paid on money withdrawn as a lump sum after the 1st 195k (tax free) is taken out?
  17. Thom

    How much

Thanks Nic!! I was wondering, as you can only take $10,000.00 in cash out

Can you transfer from Aus to the UK in a lump, and how often, without being hit for taxes on it?
  19. I've used these recently, very impressed. https://transferwise.com/

Does the 35 % tax hit if you are still a resident in Aus?
