  1. We are looking for short term cheap accommodation before we decide where in Cairns, Palm Cove or even Port Douglas we want to rent something for longer (our container should arrive approx. end of February). As we don't earn anything atm. we don't want to splash all our saving on rent thus looking for something reasonable within Cairns. We found rental market quite competitive and realised any successful applicant needs to "impress" landlord either with higher rent than expected or staying for more than few months. Honestly we can't afford to do neither of those things and I feel we would be shortlisted from any potential property because of this. We are currently staying in the hostel and paying $350 pw which is not sustainable for long and need to find anything sooner than later. I would like to find work as boat detailer (employed) if possible but need to do some research where to look as there are not many companies dealing with boats.
  2. Hello, we have arrived to Cairns on Friday (06.12) last week and looking for reasonably priced place (ideally up to $200pw) to live. We are currently paying high dollar for hostel but need to find something cheaper and bigger asap (by 19.12). We've already seen three properties in manunda and edge hill but be honest neither of them appealed to us at all. We are also looking for some work to do (my wife used to work as a nurse but we did not attempt AHPRA registration as she doesn't want to work as a nurse anymore). I was running boat valeting business back in the UK but would do anything for reasonable money. Thanks for any help George & Sona
  3. Thanks, regarding the food stuff I just asked as I do not want to throw all food which we won't be able to eat by our departure. Obviously I don't have intention to pack container up with the food but toiletries
  4. What about food stuff like Batchelors cup a soup, dry pasta, tins etc? I am going to remove and discard pine cones from Xmas decorations....
  5. Hi all, we are just 12 days before guys from John Mason come to pack all house up and I am not sure if all items we want to take over are actually allowed. I have checked the list available on http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:HSm-9qAqb9AJ:www.daff.gov.au/biosecurity/travel/moving-emigrating+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-a and be honest I am not wiser. We have few wooden items (shelves, plate cupboard, coat hanger) which I have sanded down to get rid of old varnish as we planned to paint it however we have decided it looks even better untreated. But the question is, if the quarantine department is not going to give us hard time and charge us for unnecessary fumigation or another treatment just because there is not any paint on the surface. Also I want to take some garage stuff over which include solvent based glue, orbital sander, drill, spanners, trolley jack etc but would they pick those things up (I understand everything needs to be clean especially sander which is covered by dust)? Thanks George
  6. We would soon join you car hunting as we are about to appear in Cairns first week in December and would need to buy reasonable vehicle asap.
  7. We had two tests sent for remark and after 10 weeks we got results without any mark change. I wouldn't bother wasting money and time. Just sit another test. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  8. It didn't work for us neither. Confirmation email from CO should be sufficient.
  9. We got our first quote from Anglo Pacific for our two bed house and they are not cheap! They calculated 777cf for sole use of 20ft container and only £5499 :realmad:. Anyway we contacted House and Car Moves and been quoted for Door to Door service £2150.00 inc., securing and straping. customs THC's delivery in 20ft container into mainland cairns address. Has anyone any experience about this one? George
  10. Not everyone is asked to fill one in but is better to be prepared as it took us over week to find out all information required. George
  11. Planning around the end of October 2013. George
  12. Be honest I wasn't very impressed with the whole process but we got what we were after afterall.
  13. Just got the VISA this morning. Glad the waiting is over. George
  14. I have checked visa status this morning as a part of daily routine and you can guess what, YES, status was changed to FINALISED and every applicant has grant letter attached (can't open but I trust it's there). Now I need to wait for our agent for the confirmation. It took just 3 months from visa lodgement.
  15. Hi all, does anyone has experience with the CO from the Team 7 in Adelaide initials (removed)? We got him month ago, he requested medicals, PCC's, passport photos and form 80. All has been submitted 3 weeks ago, also our medicals been done 4 weeks ago, we are using agent so we asked them to drop him an email on Thursday 24/04 without reply, again last Friday 02/05 and we did not hear from him yet. Should we worry if there is any problem with our application or is he on holiday? George
  16. Our medicals are shown as requested eventhough we had them 4 weeks ago. As I've been told by fellow member, they may change status when visa is granted. We on the other hand don't have any reply from our CO for more than one week what worries me more atm.
  17. Hi, is there anyone else from February lot waiting for the visa? We are still waiting, our agent emailed our CO last Thursday about the situation and no reply from him yet. In skillselect our medicals are marked as requested despite of the fact we had them 4 weeks ago today. Called clinic where we had medicals and been told they uploaded results by 10th April so it's 3 weeks since the upload. I hoped to get visa by the end of April... perhaps May  George
  18. Great news, hopefully everyone from February lot would follow soon. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
  19. We are in similar situation, Medicals 03/04 still indicated as required, all the rest uploaded and indicated as received in eVisa, our CO did not let us know anything yet so hopefully our medicals would be finalized soon. George
  20. IIRC you need to pass translator or interpreter test at NAATI to receive 5 points for community language otherwise you can't claim anything. More at http://www.naati.com.au/home_page.html .
  21. I would rather use NAATI translator as they are going to be accepted by DIAC for sure. When I was looking for one just look at NAATI website, search for registered translators for your language, pick one, contact and ask for rates. They usually need colour scanned copy and are usually cheaper than local translators. George
  22. We been told our medicals would be uploaded in one week.
  23. We got CO yesterday after 8 weeks of waiting, been asked to supply medicals, PCC's, form 80 for both and passport photos. I filled form 80 beforehand but found out there is newer version available so I have to rewrite all info again. George
  24. Hi, we had our qualification (Advanced diploma in nursing) assessed by ANMAC as "being commensurate" with at least an Australian Bachelor degree for the purposes of awarding points for qualification under the General Skilled Migration point test. Therefore we claimed 15points for qualification. If you want to apply for 189 you would need ANMAC assessment anyway which would clarify this matter. Hope this helps George
