  1. Quick question. Parents applied for a 173 in Aug 2012 and are yet to get a CO. Flying to Australia in December with a return booked for August (just a random return date, they'll change it later). Their intention is to travel for 6-9 months whilst waiting for the visa to come through and will fly out for it to be granted. Which tourist visa should they come to Australia on in December? Dad's worried if they come on the 3 month one immi might question their return date.
  2. Parents have been told the same, even phoned the Manchester Medical center (or where-ever it's done) and they said if they didn't have a HAP ID then they couldn't do it.
  3. Thanks for updating genie, please come back and let us know when you get a case officer, my parents shouldn't be far behind then!
  4. From the looks of things if you haven't a case officer yet and you're a month ahead it's unlikely they will get one before they arrive. It's a pain, but they've sold the house now and are due to move out the third week in November. Mum won't be able to work any longer once she's out of the house (childminder) so they thought they may as well come over and start their travels. They plan to buy a caravan and 4x4 and tour the country for 6 months before settling down, so they can do that on a tourist visa whilst waiting for the real thing to come though. Only issue is having to store all their belongings in blighty as they can't ship them until the visa comes through. You're right though, so much to juggle!
  5. They've done their police checks but can't do the medicals until they get a case officer and a HAP ID apparently. Yes, if the visa isn't through before they fly on the 1st of December they'll come on a tourist visa until it's granted - will have to leave the country to get everything sorted I think.
  6. No help I'm afraid, my parents are in a similar situation - 173 submitted and approaching the 14 month mark, house sold, shippers booked and flights booked!
  7. That's great news! Are they doing the 143? My parents are at the 13 month mark and we've everything crossed something will happen with their 173 in the next couple of months!
  8. Yes, they will have to do that. Their intention is to come out spend 6 weeks with the family and then buy a camper and spend 8 months travelling around Australia. So they've plenty of time for the visa to kick in before they want to settle and find jobs etc. And if it all goes wrong and for some reason they don't get the visa they'll head back to the UK and settle somewhere else having had the best holiday ever.
  9. Sounds like things are moving along in the parental visa world. My parents have an acknowledge date of 18 August 2012 but still waiting with baited breath for some news! Although they've sold their house and have their flights booked for 2nd December, so will be coming out then whether they have a visa or not!
  10. Thanks for answering that for me. I've just been going through the information that's changed, and virtually the whole of the form 47A that they submitted for my sister "Details of child or other dependant family member aged 18 years or over" is now totally incorrect. Can they submit a whole new form or withdraw this form (saying she's no longer dependant) or do they have to try and fit all the changes on the notification form?
  11. Hi Alan, i wondered whether you could offer any advice on my post on change of circumstances form? Thanks!
  12. Parents applied for a 173 in August 2012, on the application they included my sister as a non migrating dependant (she's 20) - but said that she was living in Australia with my brother (the sponsor) on a student visa and studying at Perth university. Since then she's returned to England and is now planning on going to uni there with no intentions to return to Australia at the moment. Would you file a change of circumstance form in this case?
  13. Ah ok then, thought they kept their place in the queue! They applied in August last year so they won't want to go to the back again! They are desperate to get out here now, house is going on the market in July & they want to be here for Christmas.
  14. Me again! My parents have lodged an application for the 173. Are they able to switch this application to the 143 as they haven't yet been allocated a case officer? They previously thought it would be better to have split payments, but now are thinking of selling up and coming over on a tourist visa whilst they wait for their parent visa to be granted - which means they'll have the capital to pay for the 143 in one go now.
  15. Hi All, Dad emailed the parents email yesterday to see when they were currently looking at applications - came back with the automated reply saying they were looking at 173 applications lodged in November 2011. He's feeling a bit dispondent about that, as although I did say it could take up to 18 months to get their visa, they really hoped to be out here by November 2013 (lodged in August 2012). Do we take this info with a pinch of salt? After all, I've seen some peoples timelines and it seems more likely that they could be out for November this year (so a 15 month timescale). Any thoughts from anyone currently allocated a CO? Thanks!
  16. Once you are granted the temp 173 does it work the same as other visas? As in you get a year to validate and then 5 years to move out? Just wondered how the 2 years to apply for the 143 would work and when you'd need to apply once you'd validated?
  17. Just thought you might be interested - my dad emailed the Perth office yesterday, they let him know they are allocating case officers to those who lodged before 8th July 2011 at the moment. Think he's a bit despondent - they were hoping to be out here by Christmas next year and they don't think it will happen now! (lodged in August 2012).
  18. Quick question. Lodged my parents 173 on Thu 16th of August, money was debited on 23rd August - still no acknowledgement email. Should we have had it by now??
  19. Just attempted to lodge my parents 173 visa application at the Perth immigration centre - was turned away and told I had to post or courier it to them. I asked why I couldn't be a courier as it would be the same as them dropping it off to me dropping it off and she just said no. Had to go round the corner to the post office and post it to them from there - seemed pretty stupid to me!! Anyhoo, after around six months of sorting out all the relevant documents and information, and waiting until August as we figured that would be our best shot (Brother been here since Nov 2009, 457 in August 2010 and PR in March 2011) it is now finally on it's way!!!
  20. Hi Mike Thanks for coming back to me, sorry, my timeline always throws people off when I talk about my parents coming over! My brother is the main sponsor, he's been here since 2009. There are three of us kids, all actually living in Perth now, two of us on PR the other on a student visa
  21. My parents are thinking of taking redundancy with my dads work and coming over on a tourist visa whilst they wait for the grant of their 173 visa (they know they'd have to leave the country for it to be granted). Has anyone else done this? They thought they'd be able to ship their cars and belongings, but I have a feeling you actually need some kind of visa before you can do this sort of thing - am I right?
  22. Craig, would you be able to break down the costs of bringing both cars? He's still interested in taking the Leon as he's planning on keeping it for a long time.
  23. Thanks Craig, I'll pass the info along to my dad. He loves the Leon, but if the numbers don't add up then I doubt he'd bring it.
  24. Hi Iron, My dad is considering taking both his cars out with him on a parent visa: Car 1 Seat Leon FR 2.0 Litre Turbo Diesel 170bhp BTCC Body Kit with Black Alloys Registered October 2009 Manual 6 speed 33,000 Miles Air Conditioning UK current value £13/14k Doesn't seem to be an Aussie value, the Leon doesn't show up on 'redbook' But a close compare might be a VW Golf TDI which is $22,000-$25,900 Car Sales for the VW Golf is $28,000+ WA Car 2 Mazda MX5 2.0 Litre Petrol Convertible Registered December 2005 Manual 6 speed 49,000 miles Air Conditioning UK Current Value £6,000 Redbook Value $20,000 - $25,000 Car Sales $22,000+ WA
  25. Thanks for that Alan, so the fact he has been living in Australia consistently for 2 years 7 months now (1 year 4 months of that on PR) should mean we can prove he is settled. Do we need to include a letter or anything explaining all the documents or is it enough to assume DIAC will be able to work it all out??
