  3. Liverpool + Kenny = trophies.............. Fingers Crossed for the final..
  4. Although we currently have no plans of returning back to the UK, I can fully understand the numorous factors & roller coaster of emotions that can make you feel that way. We have always said if we felt Melbourne wasn't for us we'd give another state a go before making the jump back. GOOD LUCK to all those who are heading home
  5. Just curious as to how many of you have tried another part of Oz before heading home Or have you just decided its not for you?
  6. Telstra has the best coverage
  7. Good shout by Fiona, Hyundai & Kai are great value with long warrenties, the quality of these manufacturers has really gone up in recent years both in design & build. The car market is different to in the UK the European brands are expensive to buy & service so arn't as popular as the Jap, Korean brands. Holden, Ford & Toyota are big players out here to.
  8. By Liverpools standards it's not good enough, the table doesn't lie. The club is going through a lot of changes on & off the field but they need time to build and restructure on & off the pitch. We've got new owners, players & a manager who will given time steady the ship. I think if you look at are trophy hall over the past 10 years we've done well. The way the games gone we could of ended up like Leeds or glasgow rangers. There's to much money in the game now & it's ruining it.
  9. I'm a carpenter with 20 years experience & I'm currently studying to get my builders licence in victoria. In my professional opinion & the opinion of my tutors who are teaching building & construction at diploma level the current form of building here follows the American format & the life span is 20 years. From state to state techniques vary but this mainly relates to cyclonic & non-cyclonic regions. On the whole houses are built fast & cheap, they appear beautiful but this is to the untrained eye. In many ways relating to energy efficiency & security & other key areas Australia is a long way behind the UK, although building them cheap & quick is the way it's gone there too. Personally I think property is way over priced here if your going to build houses that sell for hundreds of thousands built them to last or what is it worth?
  10. Yes for sure, there are other factors that are more important such as the healthcare, education system, job oppurtunities, crime rates etc The weather just makes it sweeter
  11. Calm down, Calm down KENNY DALGLISH is the man for the job, give him time to prove it, a couple of seasons at least. I grew up on the KOP when Kenny was playing & at his best & sentiment may be a big part in the way I feel. However there is no one on the planet who has got the interest of the club at heart more than Kenny, fans are fickle and football is a results game Arsenal fans were calling for Wenger to get the sack at the begining of the season a couple of good results & opinions change quickly. I truly believe given time Kenny will take the club back were it belongs. Do we want to be a club that changes managers every 12 months? thats not the Liverpool way. True fans should be backing the great man & be thankful its him at the helm & not Hodgeson......... In Kenny we trust...............
  12. If your sensible you'll go home sort everything out, plan your permenant departure etc etc, which is probablly the right thing to do? However as my mother in law always says FOLLOW YOUR HEART YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE? Good luck whatever you decide
  13. I'd go back to visit for sure, but have no desperate disire to go back any time soon. A lot of people come to Oz with the attitude I'll never go back but if you don't stick together as a family or couple etc when one starts to feel homesick thats were the stress & no win situation arrises (either way someone's not going to be happy) Personally if I was unhappy were we are currently I'd try another state in Oz or even another country before I'd go back home. I do think for those people who come to Oz & make it work the key factor these people possess is a very strong mental strenghth & focussed attitude, if you come with the we'll give it a go frame of mind your probally setting your self up for a big fall.......................
  14. As Pablo said south of the city Lark Lane Area etc are probabally pick of the bunch if you want to be in a suburb but close to the city. I'm from the north of the city but worked all over it for 20 years & would totally avoid most of the inner suburbs, as said docklands is good if you want to be in the city, I'd look at Aughton/ Town Green area's ( not technically Liverpool ) if I was heading back, its an outer leafy suburb out past the north of the city & has good train links to Liverpool, Southport & Ormskirk. All short distances away. Best of Luck on your move back
  15. I'd check with a few other agents, I thought tiling would be on the SOL for SS for at least one of the states unless age is against you? Get a second opinion. Good luck
  16. 4 grand! not a chance i'd even be thinkin about it. To make a move like this some thing are going to get sacrificed and the cats would definatly have to be one of them. Set up costs are expensive & if you've got plenty of funds behind you then things would be different. Your chacing your dreams & i'd have no guilt in re-homing the cats. Bin the cats & move on as ruthless as it sounds some things are more important. Also pets do put off the majority of landlords & would limit your rental options when you land.
  17. I've heard the Gold Cost is struggling, the high Aussie dollar won't help the situation with foreign tourist numbers being down. Hopefully more natives will take vacations there and help to ease the situation, however its never been a better time for Aussies to travel overseas with the exchange rate being so good with the strength of the Aussie dollar. I think the weakening of the Aussie dollar could have a lot of benefits nationally.
  18. I no Caterpillar has premises here in Melbourne, not sure if they do what is done at your current facility, have you looked into whether they could transfer your employment to Oz ? There a big international company so its worth looking into, could be the easiest route in.
  19. Hi gav, you will have to pass the online assessment first think this cost bout $500ish nothings free when you start the ball rolling. Once this is passed you will be able to proceed to apply for the practical assessment which u have to pay around $1500. Referances will be required as part of your assessment but you have to do the practical. Think there were to many bluffers in the past. If you speak to a good migration agent they'll point you in the right direction.
  20. Hi Gav, done my assessment with vetasses last year & TRA probably run a similar format. You could choose either carpentry or joinery tests & both were made up of a online trade specific test followed by a practical. They do tent to chop & change whats on the tests, the carpentry one was to make a hipped roof & stud wall to scale as per spec provided & the joinery one was make a saw horse to specification provided, a setting out rod for window or stair case, & go into the machine area with assessor & answer questions regarding specific machinery ie surface planer, rip saw, thickness planer, band saw etc..... Its not an exam as such, there just looking for competence not perfection. I'd brush up on any area's you may feel you need to. There was a guy on my test who had been fitting kitchens for 20 years & walked out of the carpentry test coz he just hadn't done any roofing so struggled. Hope this helps a bit
  21. Thanks for the info, its not actually for me my brother in law is currently over here on a WHV & is doing his regional work to gain his 2nd year. He's looking for a way in but I no its not easy, just trying to gain some advise to point him in a possible route in, if there is one? thankyou for the reply
  22. Hi can anyone tell me if you can be employer sponsored in any occupation, is there any limitations as to who can sponsor you ?
  23. Anz bank slashing jobs, Holden cutting jobs, Victoria Aluminium Plant will probally close unless the government bail them out, Australian Airlines going bust, Billabong closing stores.............. All time high on the Aussie dollar killing tourism & export............ Is the lucky country able to avoid the problems of other western countries ? Or will the recession kick in ?
  24. Australian airlines gone bust & billabong slashing jobs & shutting stores, just a couple more things giving us warnings of whats possibly to come. Don't think the strong Aussie dollar is helping the situation.
