  1. Can you get fixed rate mortgages over here?
  2. I can only confirm that Lilyfield and Glebe are lovely...
  3. First I've heard about this six year rule for the AU CGT. Is that definitely the case? Also Secondly my understanding is that as a non resident landlord, new ruling means I am only going to be taxed a gain for the increase since 5th April 2015. Is this correct? Cheers Kirk
  4. I live on the edge of Lane Cove national park, never seen a snake, but a few huntsmans.. cockroaches a plenty though
  5. My wife received a reminder from the ATO to submit a Tax Return, her only taxable income is $114 dollars which some savings I have set up. Given that this is significantly below the taxable threshold, have they sent this in error. Or should we have completed a tax return?
  6. My opinion was that getting my children PR (and then a Citizenship) was worth more than any Super fund return (which would be taxed anyway). And a better gift for my kiddies!!!
  7. I would thoroughly recommend Andrew from Vista Financial Services - they are helping me do the same at the moment, their details are on the site.

    Price of a pint?

Can't get pints where I am, only schooners..........
  9. By posting back to the UK? Brilliant - I'll do that then.
  10. Hi all Apologies if posting in the wrong place. My UK passport is nearly full to the brim of stamps. I am aware that you can no longer apply for extra pages, therefore I have to apply for a replacement passport. The new system is that all passports have to be sent back to the UK which takes a minimum of 6 weeks (prob much longer) so I can either post back to the UK and not travel in the meantime (I travel a lot for work) or option B is I will be in the UK in 3 weeks and was considering making an appointment for an emergency one. Will this cause problems on my re-entrance to Australia (I am a PR)? Cheers
  11. I was running it with an adapter (GULP!) but happy to have it replugged if that is in fact possible.
  12. I agree that I wouldn't want my house to burn down, but surely other people who have moved from the UK haven't had to refurnish their entire kitchen full of white goods?
  13. Dear all - I moved to Sydney nearly 3.5 years ago and bought all my white goods with me (as I found out that Oz operates on 240v as per UK) and therefore all I needed to do was to replug all the devices or get adapters to convert the uk plug outlet to an AU one. However we noticed a burning smell last week and found that our dishwasher had melted the wall outlet and nearly caught fire. Concerned we called an Electrician in who advised us that our Dishwasher was ruining on 15amp and that there is no way to fix this and that we'd have to buy a new dishwasher. Can this be correct - is there really no way to bring white goods to Oz? Thanks for any advice. Kirky G
  14. I'm considering selling my UK property to put down a deposit on a place over here and would be interested in others' experience is doing so remotely.....
  15. That actually sounds like good news to me. If I read it right - if I sell my property on or about April 5th then my capital gain will be approximately zero. Is that correct? Cheers
  16. direct trains from Chatswood to Hornsby on the North Shore Line. http://www.sydneytrains.info/stations/network_map#
  17. Can't you get a train from Hornsby to Chatwood? I live in Pymble and work in the city, and used to get the train from here. I used to have to get the Hornsby train from Central (which passed Chatswood!)
  18. Thanks Pom Queen, from the link above it looks like it will cost me and the wife $260 each (kids are free) and we'll be able to apply 4 years after the date we got our visa (as we'll have been PR for 16 months by then!!!) Thanks again. Kirky
  19. Thanks and sorry for the incorrect posting. I guess my question then is how do I apply for citizenship?
