  1. Can I ask a a (hopefully) related question? My family and I will be eligible for citizenship next year, having gained PR earlier this year. Do I simply apply for a AU passport, or is there a more fundamental process to follow? Thanks in advance.
  2. Sorry, I guess my question then is, if I sell my property in the UK whose Tax regime am I subject to? (I think I know the answer to this one) Cheers PS I will be contacting you guys directly in due course.
  3. Pensions are a headache and I am currently in a quandary as to what to do with mine. I have a standard L&G personal pension and achieved PR in May, is the best thing to do to transfer it across now?
  4. Hi - I am in a similar position, we have been in Oz for 3 years now and achieved PR in May, and am now considering selling my UK property. Is my Capital Gains liability calculated thus? Current Value of Property - Value of property 6 months after receiving PR = Capital Gains Liability? Thanks
  5. Hmmmmm. I still pay 50 quid a month into mine for my kids. Not sure what to do about that now.....
  6. Dear all I play for an over 35's soccer team on the Upper North Shore. We are currently running summer training at Macquarie Uni. Over 35's and above are all welcome for a kickabout on Wednesday evenings 7-9pm, its a perfect way to get into playing organized soccer again, when the season comes around again (sometime around March) Please respond if interested.
  7. Agreed, Looks like a call to the HMRC...... Grrrr.....
  8. I get to question 7 by selecting 'Other to the first question' and 'No' to everything else.
  9. Hi Just bumping this to see if anyone can advise? Any help would be greatly appreciated.....
  10. Hi I am just having the same issue for my wife. We have been here three years and we have a shared, mortgaged property in the UK, and although I have always completed a tax return (because my situation is more complicated pensions/salaries etc) hers is pretty straight forwards. The only income she receives is on this property and she is below the threshold even without the allowable deductions. So until this year I would have agreed with both Pumpkin and Michael986 using the advice given here (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/international/tax-return.htm) But however a few days ago I stumbled across this wizard (https://www.gov.uk/check-if-you-need-a-tax-return) and answering question 7 (You have lived or worked abroad check your residency status) it seems to imply that my wife (by virtue of simply living abroad) would need to complete a tax return, despite her total income being less than £10,000 and an income after allowances being less than £2,500. Therefore owing nothing and being owed nothing. Can this be right? It implies that everyone who lives abroad HAS to complete a Tax Return. That can't be right, surely?
  11. Dear all I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this so apologies if it needs to be moved. I need to create a will (I have been living in Oz for 3 years) and I still have a property/pension in the UK, so my assumption is that a standard will may not suffice. Can anyone recommend (or suggest) someone I can speak to and get some further information please? Kind regards
  12. Is there anything specific I need to do? I have spoken to the accountant and understand the tax implications (regarding pensions etc) but wondered if there was anything more I need to do. I think I have 3 months to apply for a NSW driving license. I'll probably have to inform the private health fund. I think it should be cheaper now right? I assume I'll have to inform Medicare, but am unsure if makes any difference (as I was on the reciprocal agreement being a uk citizen)? Is there anything else I haven't thought of? Thanks in advance
  13. Dear all I am in the process of converting from a 457 to PR (186) and would like to engage with a financial adviser/company who could help me understand the financial issues around doing so. I would also appreciate advice on pensions and purchasing a property in Australia. I see that Andrew from Vista Financial posts quite often on here (and may have links to the forum) but I didn't want to be so presumptuous as to expect financial advice for free. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
