  1. Thanks for that StevieF8, thought there would be a simple answer! I wouldn't ever be happy travelling with a baby on my lap would rather walk! But I wasn't going to bother taking mine as many other threads have stated using a uk seat would be classed as illegal in Oz. don't really want to bein trouble with the law within 5 mins of arriving! Lol!
  2. Ok so I'm aware that there is no point in taking our 18 month old sons car seat with us as it won't be classed as meeting the Oz safety standards. We are quite happy to buy a new one in Brisbane once we have sorted our hire car. My dilemma is that we arrive in Brisbane at about 6am and will need to get a taxi to our hotel? Will a taxi provide a car seat? Will he just sit on my lap? We will obviously make heading to the shops a priority but until them how do we cope? Surely most families must encounter this when they arrive, or am I just completely missing the obvious?? Doh! Emma P.s I assume I can take my 6 year olds booster seat? Or should I leave that and buy a new one too?
  3. Thanks everyone, still have so much to sort out, and will be so glad when all this preparation is finally over and our new life can begin! This rather non existent crappy Summer is most certainly helping to keep any doubts at bay!
  4. So excited we have booked our flights for 7th August from London to Brisbane, where we will then work our way up through the sunshine coast to our new homeland of Hervey Bay! We are all ridiculously excited! Although also pretty stressed, seem to be spending every minute of each day sorting something to do with the move, be it shipping, my job, school, apartment etc! But still it's all going to be worth it I'm sure! Also sorting out the dreaded farewell party! waterproof mascara a must! Any fellow HB peeps that fancy showing a pommy family around (and advising on where to get a nice large glass of vino) would be very much appreciated! ) Emma xx
  5. Hi all, we are just going through the process of completing our application for our 457 visa. I was aware I would need a uk police check as I'm a nurse and we sent of for this weeks ago to avoid delays. However, on completing the form we had to declare that my partner had a driving disqualification about 7 years ago (for one year). Unfortunately this was in Australia, we were back packing at the time, naughty boy!! It is obviously be removed now, but was wondering if they were likely to ask for a uk police check for him to because of this? I would rather get on the case now than wait for them to ask but at the same time don't wanna spend more cash unnecessarily! Anyone experienced something similar?
  6. Hi all, We are very excited as have just had our nomination approved for our 457 visa! Got the email on the 15th. Lodged the application straight away and have spent the weekend uploading all of our supporting documents. I just hope we haven't missed anything!! just booked my medical for next Thursday too, so fingers crossed its a speedy process as we are hoping to fly out 6th August! We really want to book our flights but holding off until the visa is through! Anybody else going through the same thing at the mo?? Emmax
  7. Hey Michelle, IF you have attended an English school for secondary education and university you DONT need to do the IELTS! I have just recently received my registration and I didnt do the test, I just provided a letter from both my secondary school and university to state that I was taught and assessed in English, I also sent certified copies of my GCSE results to back this up. This was sufficient for AHPRA. Also in September they relaxed the rules even more so, stating that if your are English you can prove you were taught and assessed in English the IELTS isnt necessary. Dont waste the time and money doing the test! Hope this helps!
  8. Hey, I'm afraid the Sydney office is supposed to be the busiest one and so I think you will be in for a long wait! However, I ended up ringing every two weeks without fail, and you need to ask to speak to someone within the registration dept as the people who answer the phone initially do not have a clue what's going on, they simply pass on your request to the registration dept. I found whenever I spoke to somone directly my application definitely moved along a bit quicker! Good luck and hope you hear soon! xx
  9. Well I have finally received my 'in principle' letter from AHPRA! woo hoo! It took a total of 4 months (plus the 3 months it took to get all the paperwork sorted before sent my application!) with lots of phone calls and emails chasing it up but I am finally there! My next hurdle is to find employment and the dreaded visa process! Good luck to all of you still awaiting your registration and my best advice is to continuously chase it up, you will get there in the end!
  10. Well after several phone calls over the last two weeks and finally being able to speak to someone direct within the registration department I have finally been told my application has now been fully assessed and it is waiting to be looked at by a senior for approval! This apparently should be done within the next week (yeah right!) and then if that's ok I will receive an email confirming approval of registration! I'm trying hard not to get too excited about it just in case the senior asks for more documentation from me (I will be so disappointed) as this will end up being a huge step backwards again. It's taken 4 months to get this far and I really need something positive to come out of this! So fingers crossed that my next post says I have my registration!!
  11. The uni is right, part of the application form states that you have to have the transcript sent direct to the AHPRA office you will be sending your application to. Just put a little note in your application to say that is what is happening. My university are currently drawing up mine and are sending it straight to the office. It has taken my uni over a month so far to do it though, funnily enough they took the money within the first week!!
  12. I don't need to do the EILTS, they basically said I needed written proof that my secondary education was taught and assessed in English and that I graduated (which is exactly what I have asked the school to write). They said if I could not provide this I had to write a statutory declaration in front of a notary stating that I was taught and assessed in English. I'm going to attempt the correct letter and if they still refuse that then I will have to do the declaration (costs about £120). Fingers crossed!!
  13. well I've had a day to reflect and I'm going to look at this in a positive way! At least it means they are actively working on my application (they have only had it a month so not bad considering what some people have waited) and I actually have a registration number to quote now! I have spent the day working on the stuff they aren't happy with, I have asked my secondary school to please re write a letter specifying exactly what they want and have managed to find a notary who will certify my stuff for only £90! Good luck with your application, We will all get there in the end, and it will be worth all the blood, sweat, tears and hair loss!
  14. Well I have just had an email back too saying they are not happy with who I used as a certifier and that I need to get it all photocopied and certified again!! I used a Barrister of a High Court who has done this sort of thing plenty of times, surely he is suitable?! They also stated that I have supplied insufficient evidence of being taught and assessed in English, I sent them letters from my head teacher of my secondary school and my college stating that all subjects were taught in English and I gave them a copy of my college certificate and uni certificate to prove I passed them. I don't understand what else they want?? I think they were also saying I haven't provided enough proof of identity. I sent them a copy of passport and birth certificate and change of name deed as it says overseas applicants can provide this as a minimum but will need to provide the rest on arrival? Did anyone else just provide this? I'm so disheartened it took me about two months to get all that paperwork together and to get it all signed (not to mention the cost!) I really don't understand where I have gone so wrong!
  15. Thanks Donna that is very reassuring! My friend sent off her application a few months ago and received an email asking for evidence of CPD over the last 5 years and for two references on hospital headed paper to be sent to them! I was worrying about this a bit as I hadn't included this! It seems they just seem to make up what they do and don't want from some people. so confusing. How long did it take before you received an email stating that they had everything they needed?
  16. Hi everyone, I sent my AHPRA application on 20th June and received an email on 1st July confirming that it has been received and is currently being assessed. Does this mean they are actively working on it now? I hope so! Has anyone else recently put in an application? I have no idea how long it is going to take, and I'm being way too impatient! Also another quick question, did anyone put in evidence of cpd or references? I didn't see any requests for this on the application but have heard other people talk about this being requested after they have applied? Have I just been really blonde and completely missed out that bit! I'm really hoping they aren't going to ask for this later as it will just delay things! Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
