  1. Hi All I have just got my IELTS results through and got the mark required so now I'm moving onto the next step, vetassess. I am a apprentice trained Carpenter/ Joiner and I have City & Guilds Advanced Craft qualifications. I have no doubt what so ever about passing the assessment as I am a joiner and have been since leaving school in 1998. I have been self employed since 1992 and have mainly worked as a sub contractor to other companies. I have been looking at the requirements needed to claim the whole 15 points for 8years experience that they want. They seem to want contact details for all the companies I'e worked for, a lot of these firms are no longer trading because the gone bust or simply the owners have passed away. I am currently trying to get letters from each one but need to know a few things. 1, Will a letter from a director of a company that has gone bust be accepted? 2. Will a letter from a ex-director of a company that is still trading but seems to be dormant (ie no employee except 1 director and will not answer phones, emails etc) be accepted? 3. My accountant has written a letter to say he's done my account as a joiner for the last 6 yrs, will this be acceptable? I have spoken to the tax office and they can send me copies of my returns for the last 8 years but not 10. I spent 6 months in OZ 4 yrs ago so that comes out of the total number of years so I need more. Has anyone got any idea if I'm fretting over nothing?

  9. I can't find my candidate number :arghh: so I'll have to wait until the post comes next week
  10. Only 24 hrs to my results, I need all 8's but think I'll get: Listening 7.5 Reading 7.5 Writing 7 Speaking 7.5 To be honest I didn't do the study I should have done and I had no idea what to expect in the writing and speaking elements. If I get those scores I'll be happy because I know with some study and practice I'll be able to get to my goal. Good luck everyone who gets their results tomorrow!
  11. Well I'm back and don't think I did too badly. I hope I have got 8's in both listening and reading, not sure about the writing and I froze a little on the speaking, I'm sure the lady wrote down 7.5. I won't be too disappointed as I was planning to use today as a bench mark from which i can improve upon.
  12. Just seen that I get my results on Friday 13th July. FFS that's all I need
  13. Setting off in 10 minutes to do my IELTS, I need an 8 even with the recent drop to 60 points. This is my first test and I won't be too upset if I don't get the required mark as I'll be able to use it as a marker for next time. Wish me luck.
  14. Not strictly true, I'm a joiner and mown out with work. Some people want everything, an employer who find them, work pay them top dollar, holidays, sick pay and a pension. Others who would like that but know it's just not available, work for themselves. I sub contract to 3 different builders, I source my own work and i usually keep busy, sometimes too busy. I have had quiet periods, sure, but I'd work in a factory, sweep the streets or anything to keep a roof over my families head.
  15. Click on the posters name (to the left) and an options box come up. Private Message is what you want.

  22. The only problem I have with a practical test is that they are done in London AFAIK. With me being in Yorkshire it's quite a journey, so if I can have a Skype interview I'll be jumping at the chance. I didn't realise there was a choice. Thanks for the info
  23. I will have to do this very soon as long as I pass my IELTS. I wasn't aware that Carpentry needed a practical test though, is this new? As my friend did it last year and all it consisted of was a skype call and an interview. He has been now granted his permanent visa!
  24. Thanks for the replies, especially Mrs Keilly, that looks promising.
