  1. Youre definately in the honeymoon period by the sounds of this post. Having said that there is every chance it will be a successful move with such a positive attitude.
  2. Wouldnt be buying a BMW the indicators never seem to work
  3. Definatley.....it's always about $70 for a quick dinner out for two! I think renting is a little cheaper (South East excluded)

    Council Tax

Thanks. Yes we rented in Oz and didnt pay any extra. Tenants in the UK dont get that privilege. :daydreaming: Its much cheaper in Oz - rip off Britain.

    Council Tax

The Council Tax in the Uk is astronomical! So what does Australia have if anything as an equivalent council charge?
  7. Ive had experience in both and the UK schooling mine have now is absolutely fabulous. I would describe my children as quietly academic. In the UK they have loads of after school activities. This term its karate, street dance, netball and gymnastics. All gentle fun stuff to introduce them...then I guess if they show an interest or aptitude you go to the local leisure centre (I dont think they have those in Aus? I never saw one on the Central Coast) The sessions lasts 4 weeks and are 3 quid a session. My little girl really struggled with the competitiveness in Australia. She wasnt sporty or a confident public speaker and felt almost a little bullied - children literally screaming at her when she dropped the netball!
  8. There is no point staying to finish Oz schooling! A. HSC means nothing in England B.She will not be able to do her 3 years residency in time to avoid international fees Come back sooner rather than later
  9. But just to add, if you have very close family ties, you had great friends, a lovely home then your going to have to suck it up and accept you went to Australia for something that you felt was bigger and better, something more than what you left otherwise come back! Im referring to couples who both feel the same way. If one feels differently its a whole other issue.
  10. Emigrants lose their sense of home, of stability and permanence. It will never come back. Not sure about that Quinkla......some return more stable and a greater sense of where home is after emigrating and taking off those rose coloured specs.
  11. Spot on. If you're in and out of each other's 'ouses it's almost certainly not going to work.
  12. Lol. I think this site should be called "poms off topic" !!!
  13. Apology accepted. :cute: ( I'm a bit sensitive to exclamation marks)
  14. ...no need to shout. I wasn't disagreeing with you, was just giving my personal experiences of travelling to the City.
  15. Well yeh....and he got his job back, kids back in the really good school etc. But a bit more research springs to mind!
  16. The trainline is better than it used to be? Geez must have been pretty bad! I did the CBD commute and it's a looong trek. I used to drive from Davistown to Gosford ..ok there was parking up near the hospital but still it was a 20 min drive, then of course you arrive 10 mins before the train so there's half an hour gone. 1 hour 20 to central....10 min walk to the office. Cereal bowl to log on - 2 hours.
  17. yeh, too much uncertainty in the UK right now. It will pick up again, pretty sure.
  18. Whoops, we seem to be going off topic. A family at my children's school 'emigrated' to Oz last July with 4 children. Had the big leaving party etc. The kids were back in school for the start of the Sept new term! I thought my son was making it up when he said Joseph was back in class. The family didn't even wait for the container to arrive....the just instructed it to be sent straight back to the UK..... so came back to an empty house and had to wait 6 weeks for their stuff to arrive back. Nowt as queer as folk!
  19. Ask a stupid question get a stupid answer  Anyway I bid you goodnight...up early for my dental appointment, free NHS filling
  20. You shouldnt need to pay for a consultation! Lots of folk don't have a spare $70 and they shouldn't have to be giving it over to a dentist for a 5 minute chat. Rip off Australia at its best. They get away with it though because there is no choice, disgraceful.
  21. What at a ridiculous question. Errr. Straight teeth! I didn't say they should charge at all but it's a rip off!!
  22. ....And to even get a consultation it's $70 ...and another $70 to go elsewhere for a 2nd opinion....etc etc. nah....rip off!
  23. Yes and no.....I get what your saying but crooked teeth can effect confidence and all sorts. My little girl has and overbite that I think need correcting but it's still classed as cosmetic. Sorry it's a real sore point.
  24. It's an absolute rip off! Sorry. We were quoted $8000 so we haven't bothered until we can afford it, what sort of system is that? They're children for lords sake!
