  1. I'm hearing ya. I have euphoric memories of those warm, endless balmy evenings, glass of wine and the chirping of crickets.....magic.
  2. By its very title it's an OZ V UK thread.....not enjoying it....I'm off to bed....I love and miss lots about Oz just saying it's dead cheap to go to Spain from Manchester. Night
  3. ......people in Australia who WANT to, go to Asia all the time? ...that's fantastic (but not true)
  4. Im sorry.....this is what I see from the short time I've been back. Everyone, and I mean everyone at work have booked hols to Spain, France, Malta, USA etc....every night I hear ....see ya....off now for a week! It has blown me away. Maybe it's the time of year but I'm constantly thinking this just doesn't happen in Oz. Now some folk who came to Oz many years ago will say we don't need holidays, we sit by our own pool, in our big detached house. Good on 'em as it just isn't that easy anymore.
  5. I see the youngers finishing work at 5 and jumping on a plane to Barcelona for the weekend....I want that for my kids!
  6. Of course take London and Sydney out of the equation. ...they have been untouchable for years!
  7. Is it where you purposely rent to make a loss? Not sure they have that in the UK. I only ever heard of it when I was in oz. i think it's called repossession here.
  8. Yep, it does for me. OK only little 2 bed terraces but they're paying their own mortgage not someone else's.
  9. Im just saying what I see. All my nieces and nephews have property here (north west) close to plenty of employment and none of them do in Australia - simple.
  10. The U.K. Is better for our young adults. I'm sick of hearing folk saying how good Australia has been for them....probably (almost certainly) got good jobs and their own house. Think of your children! Will they be able to achieve good jobs close to affordable housing. Most of us aspire to owning our own home and I see the youngsters (late 20's) still achieving that here in th uk.
  11. im sorry but the UK also works on them understanding good principles and to work things out.
  12. Never!?.... Of course they do - some of the best ....but the kids are taught at a different pace. The OPs little girl will probably be round top of the class.
  13. Always wished I'd brought my Dyson....so much more expensive in oz. Definately bring your Dyson!
  14. ......and they are a year ahead of course. 10 year olds on oz are in year 5 not 6 (generally)
  15. Well maybe it's because all these 10 years olds in the UK are sitting (actually they've sat them) Grammar entrance exams. A very high standard needs to be met at such a young age.
  16. Yes they are very behind in year 6. My little boy is having to have loads of tutoring here in the UK as he didn't have a clue on multiplying and dividing fractions or long division. They definately weren't working to the UK advanced standard at 10 years old.
  17. It's competitive but I think you will be ok regarding experience. You can put your experience down which you have lots of and they usually want just a recent reference and you will have that.
  18. Yes big regret. I've been cold since October!
  19. Spot on. Lovely clean, warm environment for little 'uns but my now teenagers came to visit the UK at Christmas and loved it! They'll be back
  20. ......Erina had dance groups, performances a plenty with lots of various competitions (not sure about photography) Lots of sport of course but most schools do.....they are quite competitive, although they'll deny it! Who needs the website with me around? :chatterbox::wink:
  21. Narara is a bit rough....according to my children and I have heard reports of this too. Henry Kendall used to be private I think or you had to have aboriginal history?...something like that! but it is a very good, very small school. Erina and Kincumber are your average comprehensive.....you'll do well if you get your head down, keep with the right kids etc. My daughter has just finished at Erina and is at Newcastle Uni now (started in Feb) Terrigal High is amongst the state schools in the area you mentioned.....Gosford way.... and is better than Erina and Kincumber. Then there are very good private schools....lots of them but we couldn't afford to pay for 3 at the time. They are affordable with a decent income though.
  22. ....and the humidity...awful, especially on Sydney's east coast. We do so much more here, using one of the many new cycle paths this afternoon, its a cool Spring day....perfect.
  23. Sports and Leisure Centres! Each council has about 6 or 7 each. Unrestricted access to sports actives no matter the weather. Come on Australia.....we don't all like playing netball in 80 degrees.
