  1. I am glad I asked, just checked and I have a debit card but no cheque book, which I have just asked them to send to me. Thanks Moira Ruth
  2. Hi Does anyone know if DIAC take a debit card for the final payment. I telephone ANZ Bank and they said I could pay that amount on a debit card? MKF - I hope you are able to sort something. Seems so unfair. Best wishes Moira
  3. Thanks for your help every one. I have sent a Form 1022 to son who will send it with his details. Interesting information about the transfer of large amounts. I will have to put it in my notes. So many things come up on here that I had not thought of. Moira
  4. Hi Val Just to say that I emailed DIAC to as whether my d-i-l could be my sponsor now that she and my son are separated and they said no. So my son will be my sponsor now. I wondered if anybody has changed details on their application form, I seemed to remember that there was a form to be filled in but I cant find reference to one. What I thought I would do is send a covering letter with his Form 40 that he will have to send in But the good news is that I have had a good offer on my flat and it hasnt been up a week, only problem is I wasnt planning on getting out of the flat for another 3/4mths so I feel a bit rushed. best wishes to all Moira
  5. Thankyou so much for this Val. I did read this but I thought that it had to be a relative. Yes my son could be a sponsor now I just didnt want to have to change anything this near the end in case it messed it up. Guess I still feel something could go wrong. But hopefully not long now. I have booked my flight for 30 November - how about that for positive thinking Best wishes Moira
  6. Hi out there I am expecting to get a CO in Sepember. My daughter-in-law is sponsoring me as she is Australian but my son and d-i-l have separated although not divorced. Does anyone know whether this will affect her sponsoring me. I have looked up the Form 40 and it says the sponsor must be a relative. I wonder if she would still be considered a relative as they are not divorced. Centrlink know they are separated because she had to say for childcar. Thanks Moira
  7. Hi Angie I am wobbling with you and I am not near as you. Just extending the lease on my flat so that I can sell it, but I think it will cost more than I expected, so few sleepless night over finances, but that seems to be part of the course. I just keep thinking of this time next year when I will be over in Oz. Best wishes Moira
  8. Hi Kim Great news should be plain (or is that plane) sailing from now on. I have a query. This is to all the people who have had there meds done before getting a CO. Did you apply for your visa by email? Only I cant get my meds done until I have a CO to give me a HAP number or has anyone else who submitted a paper application been able to get there meds done before getting a CO. Just out of interest. (feeling paranoid)!!! Best wishes Moira
  9. Hi everyone I have a question. My money for the 2nd payment is in my Oz bank account. I notice that payment is made by personnel cheque or bankers draft. Does anyone know is they would accept a cheque from my daughter-in-law, who is also my sponser. I would put the money in her account.? I think it might be easier than trying to do it from UK. My acknowledgement date was a year ago yesterday (Im not counting) but it does seem to have gone quickly. People often ask me if I am excited, and I am sure I am but at the moment I am more aware of the leaving. But by this time next year I should be quite settled (if everything goes to plan) Best wishes Moira
  10. Hallo all out there I am just reading through information from a shipping company and for insurance I am asked to list my items and say the price they would be in Australia. I am wonderiing if it would be OK to get the price they would be in UK and change it to Oz dollars? What have others done. Also I have been told that items such as settee and mattress are very likely to get mould, I will take out the insurance but I am also wondering if it is worth taking them.? Although it is a long time before getting a CO at times like this I am glad to have the time, all this reading through forms and making decisions is exhausting. I thought I was through with that after filling in the application. But I guess 'thats life' Thanks again for this wonderful site Moira
  11. Brilliant news. It must be so good to think that something is happening at last. Best wishes Moira
  12. Thank you for those emails. I will see how you get on with your wicker going through customs Linday thank you for website details. One of the things that brought up for me is that as a homeopath I am taking quite a few remedies so I need to find out how I stand about that. Moira
  13. Gill Thanks very much for that useful email. Think I will have to leave the wicker units. Never mind. When I think of the other things I am leaving a few units are not important. Best wishes Moira
  14. Hi Gill Like other people I just wanted to say thankyou for that very encouraging post, very inspiring and like others I will read it again. At the moment I feel as If all I do is try to find out information and make decisions!! I telephoned a shipping company yesterday and discovered that anything that has touched the ground has to be disinfected, including wicker, I was planning on taking a unit with wicker drawers (they have been varnished). Does anybody have any idea how much customs charge for disinfecting if they decide to do it.? I am supposed to be taking over a bicycle of my sons, but it is pieces in a special box and I fear if I take it out I wont get it all back in again. So I was thinking I might let customs disinfect it. So thanks again Gill and I will get a Post Office card best wishes to you and your family Moira
  15. Thank you all for your help about removal firms, I didnt realise I would need insurance as well. I did try telling the Medical Centre that I had entered a paper application but the receptionist was adamant that I needed the number for them to send it on by email. Unfortunately the 2 medical centres nearest me are run by the same people but I think I will try again saying others have had theirs done. Good luck to you all Moira
  16. Hi all Its great to hear of people moving over. I have had an offer on my flat, from my neighbour, but I have not decided whether I will rent for a year or sell before I go, but it certainly makes it easier for me, although we havent talked a price yet. Can people recommend some removers. I think I will start getting quotes in. Although it seems a long time before I move over, I am planning end November I dont want a rush at the end and because I sent in a paper application I cant get my medicals done until I get a case officer because I need a number that only she can give me. Hoping everything goes smoothly for everyone Best wishes Moira
  17. This isnt really an immigration question but somebody may know the answer. If I rent my flat for a couple of years when I move over and then sell it, would I have to pay capital gains tax? And can anyone point me in the direction of the link Alan Collett posted about tax a few weeks ago. Best wishes Moira
  18. Hi Val How exciting. It sounds as if you are on home run. You say that you received the letter for your daughter to hand over to Centrelink, are you in Oz? or do they send you a copy of the letter in the UK.? I am not expecting my CO until September but am panicking anyway. Best wishes Moira
  19. Hi there Yes I have been thinking about this, my payment will not be due until the autumn, but I was thinking of putting the money over now, with the good exchange rate, and sending the money from myANZ account. But the bankers draft/cheque has a limit of $10.00 a day. So pputing it in daughter-in-laws account looks good. Would be good to hear what others have done. Is the exchange rate set by DIAC likely to change very much in June? I expect that would be guess work on our part. Just wanted to send my sympathies to Val. Best wishes Moira
  20. Have a wonderful life and let us know how you get on Love Moira
