  1. The address is Contact Insure Your Move | Insure Your Move  my my :biglaugh:
  2. Hi Poms in the UK, as our house is now on the market we thought we would get some removal companies round for a quote ready for the big move. We booked Anglo Pacific, Crown, John Mason, Pickford and PSS. Anglo Pacific canceled the day before but the rest kept their appointments. Crown came out the dearest at £5125 plus the dearest (they proudly said they would) insurance at 3.7% but they do include the AQIS (the only company that does) fee in a sole use 20ft container. Pickfords came out next dearest with a shared use 40ft container for £5000 plus insurance at 3%. They thought we had 300 cu ft more to move than anyone else (proberly Wanda's shoes). We did not like the idea of our goods going away to be added to another container off site. PSS and John Mason both quoted the same at £3955 plus insurance and AQIS etc for sole use of 20 ft containers. They said we may be tight to get everything in it will just depend on how the packers do, so have suggested we have a few 'maybe' items that could be left behind. All companies send more leaflets and info on the insurance than on the move so you can see where they make their money. We expect to use 'Insure your move' unless the above companies lower their insurance cost. They show £425 for £25000 including sets and mildew cover that all the above say is an extra. We were surprised at the jump in price between the 4 companies. You need to add about another £1000 - £1500 to above quotes to cover insurance and fees in Oz. Nothing has been booked until house sells so we will have to wait and see if any change their quote when the time comes. :wubclub:
  3. Well done jtct, another CO in under the year, they must be running well under the quota for this year or they expect the pound to fall even further. :swoon: If they gave you 28 days you are running into 2 lots of Bank Holidays in the UK to slow things up but if that happens do not be afraid to ask for extra time (like we did) even if you don't use it.
  4. Apparently, going to house auctions is a favourite pastime for many Aussies! Gill That says it all.
  5. Expect to pay between £200 (if you are lucky where you live) and £300 (where we live). They are so far apart that you really can't shop around. To give an idea how they take the P on pricing the one in Central London near to Harrods is about £50 cheaper than the one in the sticks near Brentwood Essex.
  6. It may have been because we got our CO 2 days before Christmas or the fact that she was going on 6 weeks holiday the day after being appointed as our CO but we was given 49 days to get meds, police check and Aos sorted, we then asked could we have an extra 28 days this month and was given that (but we didn't use them) so I would take the deadline with a pinch of salt.
  7. If you are doing one Dysons £70ish service and refurb then can I suggest you find you have a split hose  and then they replace as part of the one price deal. I never suggested that officer. :policeman: May be worth getting a spare belt to take with you.
  8. Just to add to the above advice which is 100% correct, if you are more used to goggle then go to that and for example type; pomsinoz uk tax and you get posts and threads by the page full. hence my 'can of worms warning' If you are really sad you can goggle pomsinoz les avalook etc
  9. Phoebe, if you need to ring a landline number in Oz from a landline number in the UK dial 0844 200 4040 then the Oz number and the call will be at 00.5p (1/2p) per minute. If you need to phone a mobile in Oz dial 0844 428 9898 and then the Oz number and the call will cost 4p per minute. These codes do sometime change but they are what I am currently using. I use this site to check for cheaper rates and also for different countries. :wubclub: International CallChecker: finds the cheapest way to call any country
  10. Bit harsh yomvard. Alan has answered lots of questions on here but he is in business also. I posted the 'can of worms warning' because it has been covered lots of times on PomsinOz so the information is on here somewhere. :wubclub: Your first question seems to fit us, we have a house to sell, we expect we will leave the money in the UK when we move to Oz after it's sale. We can either ask for the interest to be paid gross in the UK or pay tax on the interest in the UK either way we will declare the interest in Oz and they will either tax us or allow the UK tax to stand with no more to pay. When we bring the money over to Oz to buy a house at that time we do not expect to pay any further tax.
  11. That what happens when you move to the 'Dark Side'. :animal-bat: It may not of been clear but most people have used the bank account of their son or daughter to hold funds that need to be transfered out again to make visa payments as they can control the accounts. It has been posted before that the Oz tax people will not place an extra tax on our off-spring if they can see the money has been transfered for the purpose of paying our visa.
  12. Thank you for your thoughts Phoebe, dad's condition is still very changeable. He had gone in for a routine urology operation and then he got the dread blood infection and went down hill very quickly, they are still not sure which way this will go. At least half of the people on I.C.U. seem to have a similiar problem and his doctor said people in their 80s seem to either have a heart attack or get a blood infection. I really don't think the risk of the operation was pointed out to dad but this is not really what this thread is for. We got our passports returned today with the all important red sticker but it's all a bit of a damp squid at the moment. Regards Les
  13. Moved to soon, just had rate alert of $1.64. :chatterbox: Brother can you spare me a dime?
  14. Just had a rate alert email set at $1.63 for the first time this year, don't think one can trade at that rate but a step in the right direction. Just got $1.61 for a $20,000 transfer, best rate I have got this year (which shows how bad the other transfers were).
  15. Hi Steve, we can't think of renting as we need our house for work, when that sells work stops. My sister who lives in Loddon says the house prices have dropped around her area but down here we were surprised at what 2 agents said ask (more than we expected) but the only offer so far is more than 10% off from someone who has not even got a buyer for their house. :chatterbox: We had a quiet bottle of wine last night and because my dad is very ill in I.C.U. Colchester the only people who know we have the visa is our sons and the internet poms.
  16. One person in the last 3 years. They want your money and if you have that and you can sign the cheque you are 99% there.
  17. Get CO Get Meds & Police check posted off Get Aos sorted Pay Bond for Aos Get Request for 2nd vac Pay 2nd vac Get Visa Whoopee You can only assume you have passed the Meds when they ask for payment of bond as they do not give a result. :wubclub:
  18. Sounds good to me Matt, hope it's long dated as we are no-where near selling the house. :frown: We may have to look at validation like you did first if the market does not pick up.
  19. Ah, I see what you have done here, not 3 visa's but two today, we will have to show you how to quote a post Fiz.
  20. Wow make that 3 today, Wanda has just got our email. :chatterbox::wacko::shocked:
  21. You can do that yourself Fiz, just click on the orange 'Edit' button on your first post and you can add the 'on'. You have about an hour or so to do an edit. You have more than an hour this has been typed the following day. ;^)
