  1. We applied in December, shouldof dobe it years ago lived here over 6 years... however, we appreciate they are short staffed loads of backlog due to an inept government .,, I wouldn't complain or protest personally as well just wait and get it when given ...  no one has a right to citizenship... so shouldn't really be complaining just be patient it's not immigrations fault the government are incompetent.

NBN is bloody fantastic.  Has transformed our lives in many ways.  Our old ADSL was completely crap with non-existent upload  speed and if two people were downloading at the same time well...forget it.  NBN has enabled my wife to work reliably from home too.

I have to agree completely, our ADSL was appalling, we switched over in May of last year, loads of teething trouble but now we can consistently use the internet.  sometimes it slows....however 95% of the time its great now we are on 20/50  with speed boost with Foxtel. we are on FTTN.

  3. Question 13, asks what details are incorrect. State you put your child's details wrong.

you still have to input dob passport details etc ... then you sign on behalf of the child as it is under 18.

  4. I really don't think the point of blame should be with the DIBC, I think you need to complain to the local federal MP, these are the people cutting 300+ staff, these are the ones who change the laws .... the work load has increased 10 fold, and there are constant applications being put in ... maybe request a FOI request asking how many applications to how many officers etc ... a lot of the delays were held up by federal government .. of course it's not acceptable, but the department can't be blamed for governemente legislation.

Country of origin doesn't matter wen it comes to granting citizenship, but it may have an effect on processing times as some countries are subject to more security checks than others.

Ah, thank you, I was not aware of extra security checks ... we originate from the UK.

The only issue I have with the 189 is I don' t have adiqite employment history as ive been self employed working for various sub contractors since i became qualified. It would be impossible to backtrack throughout my history for 10 years. If I had been employed from the start his would be the route I would have chosen.

Did you have an accountant ? .... you can get references from people whom you did work for ... do you have formal qualifications  from the city & Guilds or say NVQ level 3 etc .. you would be surprised how much information you have but assume you do not ...

Could be bit of a long shot but I'm planning coming to Oz in February on a 417 Working holiday visa. My whole intentions are to carry out rural work to give me a 1 year extension. But my ultimate plan is hopefully get sponsorship from someone so I can hopefully live there permanently if all goes well.

Just wondering how generous are people with sponsorships in construction? My fear is falling in love with the country than having to come back home.

if you look at companies such as Sydney trains, NSW trainlink etc, they sometimes sponsor people .. not sure on other states, but if you google the contractors who do the rail system repairs they need P&D's ... its worth a shot.

Hi Chris N Lora, there seems no way importing the paper application into the immi account due to no application ID for paper applications. The DIBP website says citizenship paper application is not importable. I tried to use Client ID as an application ID when importing but no luck. Do u have an application ID (NOT Client ID) in the acknowledgement email for ur paper application?

hi Juncobalt. did you use the client ID or the application ID? ... I used the application id, when  the immigration Dept emailed you the "Acknowledgement of receipt of an application for Australian citizenship" open up the PDF, look down to the application id just above the email address you gave you, should be an 8 digit ID number. ... if you enter that one it should work.... same for you eddie.

    Hi @Chris N Lora

Thanks for your reply. I tried but like what @Juncobaltsaid my client ID doesnt work on the reference ID column when trying to import my application. @JuncobaltI got a friend applying for Citizenship via paper in Perth successfully imported his application online, but he does have a reference ID instead of our Client ID. I guess for NSW applicants importing doesnt work.

I am a NSW resident .... I know it sounds silly but did you refresh the browser, also the DOB section does jump so check the correct date of birth .... all 4 of ours were loaded successfully.

    Hi @Chris N Lora

I applied through paper too. Unfortunately it seems you have to wait the test email and paper letter of approval. For paper application there is no way you can track your application. :(

Hey Eddie, I have been able to upload my application on line ...

If you have an immi account, all you need to do is copy and paste the reference number of your applications, add you date of birth, passport number, and country.

Once that is done, it should import the application on to the online account, I hope it helps I did it today.

that is on my list but was hoping to get it done by someone who won't charge as will probably have to pay for an appointment (I'm a tightarse when it comes to paying even more)

It should be number 37, the GP shouldn't charge you, could I suggest you call the receptionist ... I got mine done by my GP for free....

Ready to submit our application but having difficulty finding someone to sign our Form 1195 and photos who has known us for a year, is a citizen and on the profession list. I need to get out more. Oh well, will have to keep looking.

Ring up the medical centre you use ... see if a regular GP you use will do it..

  13. I have just applied, I had to do a paper application due to expired passports, the 1195form is for  the photos that you will get certified via an approved person ... if you go to immi.gov.au and create an account you can access your application .. that's what my wife did and it was in 2008 our application ... it also ensures your details are correct you can confirm and double check dates etc.

    Gday all,

Returning to UK early next year.   Ive got one of those tricky Super balances (around $25k) thats clearly not a great amount in the grand retirement scheme of things, but, for me anyway enough to bother about and Ive worked for it so....

Looking for advice on what to do with it.   Citizen so cant withdraw until preservation age in 15 yrs.

Ive cancelled all insurances and switched to an aggressive high growth fund in the hope that it grows or at least doesnt drain due to charges.

Are there any other options?   Can I combine my Super with my wife's (I dont think this is possible?).    Ive been told you can make contributions when back over in the UK, but to me that doesnt seem wise unless maybe the exchange rate swings and the pound gets strong/AUD weak?  Has anyone actually done this?

Im guessing theres a point at which Super balances pay for themselves even if you stop contributing whereby gains outweigh fees and inflation, allowing for ups and downs of course.  Ive no idea what this would be but suspect it might be around what Ive got or maybe a bit higher??

    Any input welcome, cheers

Can you not self manage your super? It will take away all the pesky charges .l hear a few do self manage over here, could be tricky from the UK ...

Sorry @Chris N Lora I've only just seen your post.  We used Dogtainers to bring our cats back.  They were good.  We did have trouble getting information from them to start with, but I suspect there were some staffing issues because the lady that we'd been dealing with suddenly disappeared and from then on the communication was great.  We put the cats in two large crates, so two together in each so they'd have a bit of company for the journey.  They were collected on the Monday morning (we flew out on that day) and taken to their kennels, where they were given worming tablets and a health check.  They were put on a Qantas flight the following day to Dubai, a six hour layover where they were fed and watered, and then Emirates to Glasgow, where they were picked up and delivered to our house by an associate company of Dogtainers.  They were absolutely fine when they got here, aside from being a bit crumpled and smelly where they'd done a wee in the container.  They settled pretty quickly too!

Thanks for the reply, I would have to get 3 crates, 2 rag dolls are fine the other 2really dislike each other .. we were debating jetpete and dogcontainers... again thanks, and glad you have settled well.

    Cheers Lady T

just a bit of advice, the licence will show up as expired on the database .. and if you are pulled for a RBT then chances are you are fined etc ... for the 100$ is it really worth it .. just go the local office and get a 12 month licence ...
