Yeah, I noticed that last night and was thinking "what a weird option", who would want to do that with someone else... Now it all makes sense 🙂

When we applied, my wife did it, we all attended the ceremony at the same time and what not.  it is a strange option but, always good to be linked, my daughter was over 18 and she was also linked under my wife's Immi account ID ... I even had all my info sent to her email ... fingers crossed, your not to far away. Some applications are being done fast now.

    @KazBaker thanks for tat.

I've not applied yet, as I was only eligible on the 28th.
    - I have however, arranged everything and should be getting the last of the docs signed tomorrow, which means I'll be applying this week, if all goes well! Exciting times!!

Even though you apply separately, ensure you tick the box to make it a linked application

Thanks Georgiegie for reply. For Q2 I request to the employer but they said me talk to immi / MA and if they said it is legal that i can move then only my employer let me to go otherwise not!!!

Sorry, why would your employer have anything to do with an application for Citizenship? when you applied for citizenship you either qualify or you wait until you do ... employment and employers have nothing to do to with personal matters

    Hi guys

I can not find my expired passport to show proof of first entry into Australia.

Is this proof really required to show them? Surely they would see when I first made entry in their system?

All I have is the original expired 457 visa grant notification. The expired passport would have only had the date of entry stamped on it.

    Thanks

stop stressing, its an expired passport, its all on file entries and exits .. and what visa you hold... do not waste time and money  as above asking for the initial entry request... you have your initial visa grant, upload it and give the first date of entry to Australia.  they have it all to hand.  I never gave my expired passport or my valid UK passport... and just advised them of entry. they were ok with it.

Call up the immigration help line they will more then likely tell you the same.

    Hi Guys

Seems like I have done the following mistakes unknowingly on my application:

My brother’s name (last name is first name)

    My parents DOB

**Parents and brother are not part of my application, there info was required under family details.

How can i get it rectified and what are the consequences?

    Thanks for your help!

Firstly do not stress, I believe you need a form 929, change of detail's. passport /Address etc... attached  a covering letter with you TRN or Citizenship application number with it and advise the dept of the simple error.  people make mistakes all the time they are used to it. ( ensure you have all legitimate proof to show the error.  if its already uploaded tell them.

I heard that they're routing the new applications through the new system which is quicker whereas the ones in 2017 and early 2018 are still being processed by the old system which is slower. The process remains the same, only the processing time has reduced. This is what I read at a few places.

I was a 2017 applicant, we heard nothing for 12 months in Dec 18 I took the test, then said approved for my wife and daughters instant, they had the ceremony on Australia Day, I got approved the 15th or so of Jan 19 and had the Ceremony on the 26th of Jan .. all in all 13 months from lodgement to ceremony ,... and we were paper based applicants due to having expired passports.

    • Congratulations 2

No, you said you would receive the approval letter soon as you have passed the test, which is not correct and misleading.

Again, for some applications, approval can take several months after you have passed the test. It is not 'as soon as' you have passed it.

To  be fair,  My Daughter got hers the same day from the Parramatta Office, and it was literally uploaded on the system before she left the office as she checked so on her phone.

My wife passed her test on the 4th of Dec 2018, she had a letter dated the 5th of Dec and the council contacted her with a letter dated the 5th of Dec also.

It is not really fair for you to call his comments misleading when all cases are based on individual merits.  IE I got my letter in Jan 2019 and a week later I had the ceremony and got citizenship.

The PR Visa is for the period of 5 years. You need to apply for the citizenship to stay permanently in Australia.

This statement is in correct,  you are misleading people. the PR never expires, just the travel element, my travel element ran out in 2016, what were they going to do stop me working deport me?> the PR only gets cancelled once you become an Australian citizenship ...  many people live in Australia on a PR from years ago.

I didn't know PR visas could expire?!?!?

The Permanent residents Visa PRV, doesn't expire it is just the travel element of the visa, hence the Resident Return Visa needs to be applied for after the initial 5 years. my PRV ran out in 2016, but we now have Australian passports.

Full of frustrations and I never accept this at all. It is disgraceful.

After several calls, FOIs, and complaints via immi web, there is still zero progress once the test is passed.

I will write to my MP once my timeline hits 22 months, which will be the end of July.

please, do, all applicants need to make the government aware of the non excusable delays by that department. We applied in Dec 17 and ceremony Jan 19.

    Already lost my hope:

My timeline is perhaps the longest among all members:

    • Applied in Sydney
    • Applied: 28/10/2017
    • Test passed: 30/04/2019 (100%)
    • Waiting for the approval

21 months since. FOI, global compliant, no help at all

I honestly do not know why you accept this, contact the Hon  David Coleman MP  in Canberra.

Seems crazy all over the place/pot luck, kinda like our 186 wait haha.

Have seen 3 months to ceremony, also seen 16-18 months with no test appointment.

when we applied, we did the test in Dec 2018, and Ceremony on Australia Day 2019 .. so after a 12 month wait, we got the ceremony in 5 weeks.

  13. Guys.

I have said it prior and will say it again, if you have been waiting over 15 months please contact your local Federal MP and also contact the government at Canberra, they do not mind and then they will look at your file and tell you what the issues are.

Sometimes, they will contact and why the application is being held up and will assist.

£1300 a year?!!!! Jeez and I thought I was paying an excessive amount at £300 a year. Has it got a rear fog light? I know many Jap cars don't for some reason, my Mazda 6 didn't have one.

I did not think that was a bad price for a new import on a London address, my sister in Kent it came in at 440. it cost me $650 to insure it here, plus CTP and Rego, not much different to UK prices to be fair.  plus the car is only 2 months old and an import so these figures are cheap ... we Just need to decide where to move to in the UK we are not returning to London.

I have checked the requirements, the fog light was already there, only thing I was required to do was have a new cluster fitted to show Mph/Km-h. Mitsubishi UK wanted 2 k for the cluster and 3 k to fit it ... I have had it done over here, it cost $450. saved thousands.

Thankfully, the car meets the UK specs, barring the above and the tow bar, I just need to remove the ball from the bar for inspection then replace it after. and register it.

    Hi everyone,

We are moving back to the UK after 6 years in Sydney, mainly moving back for work and family.

We have a VW Multivan that we are going to ship back as we love the van and used values are a lot higher in the UK so we'd struggle to replace it like for like.

I think I understand the process enough to handle most of the admin myself including the IVA etc when the vehicle lands in the UK.

If anyone has been through this process before itt would be great to get some recommendations for a cost effective RoRo (roll on roll off) shipping company that allows local drop off in Sydney, and any guidance as to what is a reasonable figure for non-container shipping including any insurance.

    Thanks in advance!

    Mal

I have been waiting for more than 10 months. One of my friend waiting for more than an year now. He called and got the generic reply. Migrants have to pay a good amount to get PR, then if they marry with some overseas partner they need to pay additional approx $8,000. 😛 Funny thing is that almost 40/50% skilled migrants goes to Sydney and Sydney has only 1 testing centre 😛 and one in parramatta (Where almost 80-90%) are migrants. It like having a 100Gbs speed available but bandwidth is only 1K 😄

Don't fret yet, we waited 12 months ... we applied in Dec 2017, got the test Dec 18 citizenship Jan 19 .. hence the guidelines are just that ... fingers crossed you get it soon .. the next lot of citizenship ceremonies I believe are April/May ... We applied for PR back in 2008 wife was a hairdresser ...took us 3 years to get the PR it cost us $2800 at the time we did it ourselves .. no MA used ... we have been very lucky I feel in getting citizenship as fast as we did .. and Yup, we are migrant in the Sydney area.  stop being optimist with the 100GBS

Hi Chris: its all arguments, from my side take it lightly 🙂 . I am surely not against anyone. Everyone who came to Australia(one way or other) has the same right to live here peacefully. 🙂

Government are to blame, they are grossly incompetent, I agree in relation to the security checks of refugees, however it is hard when no documents are present and they can claim to not be who they are etc ... I am all for the DNA and prints of refuges to be taken upon arrival .... Imagine if everyone had DNA and prints taken crime would reduce overnight etc ....

As mentioned, 22 months is excessive, however statistically they are done quicker generally,  and if the 22 month time scale has been met then people need to contact the immigration minister, he cannot try and lobby for change unless he is aware fully.

You make very valid points and generally I agree, alas the government need to be held accountable for the actions they take in causing delays, I think sometimes they dont want immigration the way they always contradict immigration policy.

They want us all to pay taxes but no benefits.... wonderful utopia for governments lol.

You mind me asking on how long you have been waiting?

  18. 1 hour ago, the_new_citizen said:

The link is that the people who arrived in boats are with incomplete documentation. There is no specific team which is dedicated for those complex applications. Because of that the people who came on skilled migration visa are suffering a daring delay. IF anyone came on genuine visa and his/her documentation is complete and was also gone through extreme background security checks when obtaining skilled visa should be shown some respect. Why not two different streams? complex applications (boat arrivals / refugees) should be processed in a different queue rather than in the same queue of skilled migrants. Why not? 🙂

Firstly, these people who arrive on boats, we all know refugee status is  buzz word with all countries, However, you cannot blame them for the DIAC process.

Again, being skilled or a refugee, has absolutely nothing to do with being a citizen ... my daughter is neither skilled or a refugee (school aged) and she is a citizen now.. I think blaming the refugees is harsh.

Firstly, I do not accept 22 months is justifiable to process applications for citizenship.

However, there are mitigating circumstances that DIAC should be defended for.

    lets take two  family applications.

    Family Smith and family Jones.

Family Jones have lived in Australia for 5 years, they arrived and have never been out of the country.  they have no criminal records, all papers are in order etc etc, when DIAC process this family, they see it is a straight forwards application. (no oversea clearances etc).

Family Smith have also lived in Australia for 5 years, however they spent more then 90 days out of the country, therefore, they need to supply overseas record checks etc ... DIAC have to wait for them to be uploaded, family smith also have delayed in getting the further information etc.

Also,  as mentioned Qualification, do you qualify for citizenship .. not if you are a Nurse or Pilot etc.

Low Risk / High Risk countries etc ... there are always mitigating circumstance to the delays ... justifiable or not.

Furthermore, once applications are approved, councils differ, take Parramatta, I believe had over 1600 citizens take the oath on Australia day, where as there are towns around the country whom may have 10 or 20 ....

When the logistics are considered it is a massive task to coordinate/implement the process...

I think, rather then blame DIAC maybe blame the Federal government for changes to the system that caused the delay trying to put the bill through etc... maybe lodge a formal complain to the Federal Government.

No it is not. Atleast I am unable to find this info in report. That why i said it is "Shudni" (rumor).

for other two facts. It seems that they are treating Donkeys & horses the same manner. Either you are a skilled migrant (paying huge amount of taxes) or a boat arrival-er (taking huge sum of financial support) you are same. What a pity for tax payers.

I do not see how, the link is being made, paying taxes and being a boat arrival.... Citizenship is based on merit and qualification rather than on whom pays more taxes... As said previously, DIAC are progressing and the majority are done prior to the time line  published.

Have you run any test insurance quotes?  Yours will still be classed as an import in the UK despite the same model existing there.

yes, I used my sisters address in London (we are not moving back to London though) .. the quote came in at 1300 pounds. very reasonable considering it is an import and brand new.

  21. We are returning this year to England, I am returning with our new Pajero... I have been quoted 11 k for a 45 ft container. the 11 k is to put the vehicle in our container and all associated costs .... apart from the different model name our car is exactly the same as the SG5 in the UK I have just paid 60 pounds for a new speedometer, and will have it fitted here in Australia prior to returning. there is no legal requirement to change the Km counter to a mileage counter. as per DVSA guidelines. the same car here is over 12k more expensive in the UK like for like ... ours is literally in storage waiting to be shipped with our belongings...
