We applied in December last year, we are discontinuing with our application as we are going to move back to the UK and cant be bothered to wait for this incompetent bunch to do their jobs.

Where are you based? Waiting for citizenship shouldnt affect your life in Australia. People should relax enjoy your life and when it happens it happens.

I am based in Sydney NSW, it is not affecting my life, I have accepted a new role in the UK so will be returning in 2019.  I am of the stance, I get citizenship great if I do not, not actually a loss. in the fact I am a UK passport holder etc, I can always get a 5 year RRV.

It's unfortunate that the government is playing political football with immigration and citizenship.   It's incompetent management - i.e. refusing to recruit anywhere near enough staff to deal with the volume of citizenship applications - not incompetent staff.

Bottom line anyway, citizenship is supposed to be for people who want to make a genuine commitment to the country, not for people who want to get it as a safety net then sod off home, so we have no right to complain (I say this as someone who originally got my citizenship as a safety net myself).

I agree, that Immigration are at fault, not the particular employee's, sadly they suffer for the incompetence of the Federal government, I think they have enough grief without people calling up harassing them lol.

I think you may live to regret that decision. Especially when the UK deep dark winter kicks in. I know its frustrating but at the very worst its a 2 years wait for the rest of your life.

no, not at all, I have lived here in Australia, for 7 years now, and work is the reason I am going home. admittedly I should of done citizenship years ago, never got around to it... I won't feel regret it is just a chapter of life.  I have never had issues with the dark nights in the UK growing up there as a kid your used to it,

I have the same problem now. Kindly, How could you manage it ?

you would of had a TRN when you did your PR application ... if you look at your visa entitlement issue then it should be there.

Thanks Quoll. No she doesn’t have citizenship but we will get a RRV, should get 5 Years and that will be enough if needed. She’s unlikely to want to do that journey in her 80’s to be honest. Not to mention she has no idea how to use a computer to take the test and no patience to learn.......

Good to know you had no issues. Just concerned that where we start off when arriving in temp accommodation may not be the area we end up in. Work being the obvious deciding factor. I will try to get a job before we leave, that will help.

Your mum would not of  been  required to sit a Citizenship test exemptions

council has nothing to do with this as DIBP send and book the citizenship time the council

If you are advising the same to everyone then i would suggest to stop this

maybe you should do some research

    http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/community/community-services/citizenship

    https://www.thehills.nsw.gov.au/Services/Our-Community/Citizenship-Ceremonies

    http://www.communityservices.act.gov.au/multicultural/services/australian-citizenship-ceremonies/schedule-of-australian-citizenship-ceremonies

That was a quick search and local councils put dates on the websites.

  9. Hi Rebus.

I would suggest that you contact the college or  trade that issued the certificate and ask for the transcript.  basically outlining what was studied etc. you could even ask if they would accept the modules and codes etc ... I assume you provided these for the TRA.

They will give the transcript for you to pass on to the  CO, it might need to be signed by a JP.

Some links below that could help.

Great! thank you for the response. What happens if i receive a citizenship test appointment in that 3 week turnaround time? I will have no passport to take to the meeting/test. Its a small chance of happening but worth planning for.

TO be fair, you will have sufficient proof, ie Birth certificate, Driving licence, bank card, rent agreement/Mortgage agreement, medicare card etc. ... I wouldn't worry too much, Citizenship is not dependant on you having a valid UK passport.

Hi Guys hoping someone can advise. I have applied for citizenship early June 2017. Still heard nothing back. I now need to renew my British passport as it expires soon but to do so i have to send my original one away to the British passport office. If during this time of renewing my British passport I finally get an appointment for the citizenship test I obviously will be unable to attend with my original documents referenced in my application forms. Or if I get the renewed passport back in time for the citizenship test I will have a passport number different from my that stated on my application form. Any advice what to do? Im not putting my life on hold anymore and will be going back to the UK for 4 weeks on holiday in August to see my aging parents and let everyone meet my Australian daughter and Australian fiance for the first time. Thanks.

go on https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports and do the passport there, it is an online application its very simple to do now ...  if your facial features have not changed much take a picture on a plain white background and upload it ... I did it a few months back took literally, 3 weeks, and I had a new passport back. You will just then uploaded a change of address/passport details to the immigration.

Hi guys I have a question when we scan the documents it has to be not more than 500 kB but mine is 590 so it is ok and when we scan our passport size photo we have to do it as normal size scan like licenses or it has be the passport size scan small

Compress the files,  when scanning them.

    Hi Chris N lora,

How long does passport have to be valid for, before applying?

As long as you have a valid passport you can do it online, our had expired and, I had to submit it via a paper based application.  As others have mentioned, pre fill it out online and then save, you can submit it when you are ready.

Hi guys ! I uploaded  form 1195 in my online application in April 2017.My GP signed and wrote 4 months has known me but  now it is 14 months with that  GP.(no my citizenship test yet).

requirement is at least 12 months must be known

Do my GP need to sign new form 1195 or  can write 14 months and signature on previous form 1195 and can upload the same form 1195?

    Your suggestion please.

    Thanks

Personally, I would quickly run to the GP with a new form to sign .... or if the form is still dated 12 months ago upload it with a covering letter explaining.

Anyone has experience with de-linking application joined for citizenship ceremony (that was a really out of luck question) so that at least my wife completes citizenship journey rather then Waiting for me since I have not received test appointment yet and she’s already approved.

Do a change of circumstances form and explain why you wish to de link ....I think it is stupid you apply at the same time yet not get the results at the same time. I understand some of the frustration you guys get ...

I'm confused why they need to do all these background checks and overseas police checks when they did such checks when applicants originally applied for their visa. Surely it would be a  simple matter of checking on a database for most of the checks required. If I head back to the UK is there an option to apply in the UK to the Australian High Commission and have the ceremony in the UK? Looking at all my options before I make a decision what to do for the future.

I asked exactly the same thing, I am moving back to the UK ... he said it's not possible to do it in the UK it baffled me as I met all qualifying requirements when the application was lodged.

  17. I was required to speak to immigration today ....I was advised the 13 months for 75%. The 15 months for 90% is only a guide .... some are being done faster, it is dependent on the background checks. If all documentation is given prompt and there is no extra information required, ie overseas police checks etc.  then they are being done on a case by case merit ... so some can be done long before others... and that all applicants need to be patient.

Hello feinds I dont have evidence of arrival becuase my old passport is lost. Do you think its going create problem in my citizenship application?
    Thanks

No, immigration have them details on file, I do suggest if you have a new passport, you fill out a form 929 and forward it on to immi.

Copies of documents don't need to be countersigned for citizenship applications because you'll be taking the originals with you for your citizenship interview/test so the department will see them and verify them for themselves.

Wish I had of known this, due to expired passports, we had to do a paper based application, I got all documents required signed and verified by a JP. Which is now irrelevant as they will verify them in person

She has to apply for her own citizenship surely. Is she not able to do her own application?

Hi snifter she can her own definitely but I was wondering if I can add her in to my application. There is no such option to add wife only you can add is kids not wife so she has to apply her own.

she is over 18 she has to apply herself, my wife and I did it separate, and only one daughter could go on the wife's application as she was under 18 the over 18 had to do her own ... are you attenuating to avoid the value of payment hence your application

    Hi all,

    Morning.

An update for myself: I got a phone call from the DIBP yesterday afternoon and was told NOT TO CONTACT THEM ANYMORE. I was also told that I contacted them 8 times in different ways – emails, calls, complaints etc.... He said they won't consider my application within 12 months. That's it. His name is Andrew and he was polite though.

Sorry, to hear of your plight, just hold tight it will happen ... sometimes its not good to rock the boat...
