  1. Hi 3gh2, I just asked them outright. The date is tentative, but I had said to the girl that I spoke to (on the phone) that I was advised June when I spoke to the DIAC officer in person at the Brisbane office, so maybe that is why she said that she could see that we were down tentatively for 15th July, although that could be sooner (I hope), but 80% of people who are advised tentative, tend to get that date she advised. I hope she is right
  2. Hi freakLFC, They say that after your test / interview that all correspondence will be done in writing. If you have applied on-line , then the answer is YES the status will change to "Applicant Approved", it's up to you whether you choose to check online or not . If you do choose to monitor this online, then during this time, when you're waiting on your letter, you may know this status prior to actually receiving your approval letter. I'm unsure on whether this changes again when your ceremony is due, as I personally haven't gotten to that stage yet, but been advised over the phone (today) that this is likely to be July in Brisbane, and will receive my letter 2-3 weeks before the ceremony.

  8. Same for me, we're on Queen Street, and were told to evacuate, even though we have a restricted floor in our building therefore no-one without a pass can get in, still told to get out. Made for an interesting lunch break though. Next time I might not venture near Milano, as we could see him running under the cover at the Myer Centre..Mental
  9. It appears that my tentative date for the citizenship ceremony is the 15th July :err: I know it a 3-6 months from approval, but that's cutting it a bit fine!
  10. Silly666, This wont bring things forward, unless you get someone who is willing to move the date. The issue you've got is that unless you go into the nearest DIAC office, then the person on the other end of the phone that you speak to might not be able to assist, as they might not have knowledge of that office in regards to test dates.
  11. Hi Silly666, Basically like HuyDiep said, "It varies case by case". An example of that is my application: Application fee received 03/12/2012 Application received - Processing commenced 03/12/12 Test and Interview - 18/01/2013 Application Approved -12/02/2013 (letters come from Canberra so can take about 1 week to 10 days) Ceremony : Waiting:arghh: ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page. The only difference to this and my wife's application, is that she was approved after 3 days of her interview, so it very much is a case of who you see on the day :-( The service standard from lodgement to Approval can take up to 3 months. From Approval to ceremony it can be between 3-6 months, depending where you are in the country, as some councils have these more frequently than others. Hope this helps
  12. If the house means a lot to you then don't sell. It also depends on the current market, and the reality that if this sale doesn't go through, then what do you do? Can you come out if it doesn't sell? Youu can always rent until such times that the visa comes through especially if this is due soon. It's a hard call. We sold in Aug 2008 in Scotland and it was at the time when the market wasn't good, and stayed with family for 4 weeks before coming out, so that suited us, but may not suit you and your family....No one said it was going to be easy :-)
  13. You know that if you applied online, you will see the progress before the letter comes out (https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/inquiry/query/query.do?action=citz) I knew that I had been approved before the letter was sent, as the letter comes from Canberra. I had to wait up to 3 weeks but that could have been due to the fact the immigration minister had just changed!
  14. The date from test/ interview can take up to 3 months, which is within the service standard, although it could be approved sooner, it just depends who your case officer is. Within that time an Australian Police check will be carried out. There is a ceremony in April then one in June according to those that I spoke to at DIAC in Brisbane. The problem is that if you live in the Brisbane Council catchment, they don't seem to publish the dates on the council website like other councils. Those who never got their ceremony on Australia Day (2013) will go into the April ceremony. I was approved in February and my wife in January, like I mentioned above depends who you see. My wife was 3 days to approved, me, 3 weeks! So they have advised us that it's likely to be June at the earliest.
  15. You generally keep it for life. There are circumstances in which it can be revoked (renounced). But that is generally at the discretion of the Immigration Minister to decide, therefore it can still be declined even though you don't want it. The following is a guide on the process of renouncing citizenship: http://www.citizenship.gov.au/current/give_up/
  16. You'll find maybe your wife was under 16 at the time?, therefore no "pledge" would have had to be taken(legally). I can only assume that it's the same for people residing in the UK if they wish to become citizens. When I joined the Armed Forces (UK) I also had to take an oath of allegiance to make it official, even though I was born in the UK. At the end of the day for the pledge it's just words, but it makes it legal and shows that you're genuinely interested in becoming part of the country I suppose. It's either for you or not, and everyone is entitled to make their own mind up regarding this, some see as a loss of British identity, I personally see this as a great opportunity.
  17. Having applied and been approved on February 12 th 2013 for Citizenship. My wife and kids applied on the same date and were approved 3 days later (21/01/213). This could have been due to a change in Minister? I am also awaiting a ceremony date, which I have been informed possibly April, worst case June. Can anyone that has applied in December 2012 confirm if they have been notified with a date yet (Brisbane Council area)? Citizenship Application- Australian Citizenship by Conferral - General Eligibility (On-line) 03/12/2012, Application received 03/12/2012, Interview and Test 18/01/2013, Application approved 12/02/2013, Ceremony Date....Waiting
