Hi Becky,
I lived and worked in Bundy - at the Friendlies as a radiographer for a year. (I ledt for Brisbane 2 years ago) Firstly, the rriendlies is a really nice hospital- i think you will like it there= but it ain't the NHS- its a whole different kettle of fish, i'll let you work that out for yourself! Don't worry though - the staff are lovely.
Now Bundy is a big country town, but it is a bit "backward"- shops close at 12 on saturday, don't open at all on sundays (although that is changing so I'm told!) and good luck trying to find a restaurant open after 9 pm on a saturday....
still, it's a friendly town - very child friendly so my mummy friends tell me! I would say bundy is a bit dull to live - look at Bargara - its just 20 mins drive to the hospital and its a pretty beach town- lots of nice wlks for your baby etc and a gorgeous beach-front play area they will love.
Maybe you could ask someone from the hospital to find a place for you for the first month- my company (not the same employers as you) paid for my accomodation for the first month which was a great help- but even if they don't pay for it they might book it for you- worth a shot!~ I stayed at Alexanders on Woondooma street - cheap if you book it this far in advance- its clean and right opposite the hospital! Worth a look anyway.
I hope this helps....as you probably worked out, Bundy wasn't for me but I was single at the time and there are no single men in that town Lol! But i have some good memories and made some very good frinds= I'm sure you will too! And from memory there were a couple of pommy nurses working there so you'll fit right in.
Good luck and if there's anything else I can help with- just holler!
Sj
