  1. It's nice to see some positive comments about potential work in Brisbane. I've worked on some very large IT Project's in the UK - and Im currently managing the Migration and then Decommission of 3 Global Data Centre's for a Large Global Pharmaceutical - one being in Singapore - so have good AsiaPac experience. Battleneter/acantril - does the offer of sending CV's extend to all? We are moving at the end of November - and expect not to start work immediately because of the "season" - and have mixed feeling's about starting my job hunt. In the UK I've been fortunate to have the right skill set - and be in demand - and therefore always (luckily) had the finish Friday, start Monday career. I realise this isn't necessarily going to be the case in Brisbane. Is it too early to apply for jobs now? I know in the UK I couldn't hire someone and wait 4 months.
  2. Good point - lets say up to $5,000 for a family of 3 - anything up to 10 days (would stretch a bit more if it was amazing!)
  3. We are landing in Brisbane the first week of Dec. we are looking at short term lets for 3/4 weeks but would also like to make Christmas as special as we can. The last months in the UK will be emotional - so I want to make sure that we enjoy Xmas. Whitsunday Islands is somewhere I've always wanted to go to- where else can you go to enjoy the Xmas/new year break ? Plenty of activities and other kids for our son to play with would be high on our list.
  4. If you did this role then you are perfectly within your rights to ask the employer to re-do the reference with the correct information. Is this the only reference you have?
  5. Hi For our adventure - we need to: a) Export Car b) Export Caravan c) Export Home "stuff" - prob 20ft container Has anyone been able to do this with one company? Is it more cost effective? Eg. Car and Home stuff in a 40ft container - then maybe Caravan on a RORO? any comments would be appreciated.
  6. Hi - would be interested to see if there's been much change? We now have a Visa but we need to validate by 3rd December. daily looking at the job market and it appears the agency's are all fighting over the same "handful" of IT work. lots of stories about ex- gov workers all going for the same jobs - making me think that Brisbane isn't the correct choice.
  7. ...maybe the correct question to ask: What documentation do I need to provide to proove I've been the owner for 12 months?
  8. I had a similar situation - remember you can only be assessed on the information that you provide. If you feel you have grounds to appeal (on all points) - then provide more information. Additional references etc. I had to travel the country to get additional references - eg. Knocking on people's door's with a "Remember me - I worked here in 2005" - if you want the correct assessment - you need to provide the evidence to backup your claims. good luck
  9. Gutted! Ok - so this means buying a banger then! damn!
  10. interesting - because the car would be Registered in my name - and then left in the UK for the remaining 6 months (friends/family) then Import after 12 months. I want to make sure this is possible - I can then decide on budget for the vehicle - if we cant - then it will be a banger for 6 months!
  11. thanks - I'd seen this - but my query is probably around this scenario: purchase the car use for 6 months in UK emigrate 6 months car still in UK - and will be taxed, insured etc... how is "used for 12 months" defined? Do we have to get proof that we've driven from a to b!
  12. Hi - we need to buy a new car but we emigrate in 6 months - would we be allowed to import it in 12 months time ? We would of been in oz for 6 months by then? is this allowed?
  13. I too have found this thread useful, we are moving out to Oz end of November and I know the pull for me is going to be huge from day 1. I have a very big family who are also my friends and leaving my 21 year old daughter, grandson and mum is going to be heart breaking. I don't take for granted the support I have here, I know I'm very lucky and I know how hard this is going to be (or at least I think I do). As with Phil and Vicki, this is something we want/have to do. We will never know if this will give us the 'better life' we think it will if we don't try it. Apart from family, we don't enjoy being in the UK, most would say we have a good life and do quite a lot of outdoor activity (when weather allows), but for us, we spend far too much time sitting in doors as myself and 9 year old don't like the wet and cold. I feel that life is being wasted with every weekend that passes and we've not gone walking, bike riding, caravanning etc. I want my son to enjoy the outdoors more, as he also hates being stuck in. The slower pace of Oz life and the climate will hopefully allow us to live our weeknights/weekends and outweigh the pull of family. For years now, we feel like we live to work, we now want to work to live.
  14. HHis sorry if this is already done.. im putting a Wanted Down Under style reality check document together to make sure I've covered all potential bills - so I can set a realistic rental budget. the common ones are probably the same as we have in the uk- but what are the Oz ones? What have been the hidden costs that we've not thought about? eg. POOL MAINTENANCE health insurance average school fees
  15. thanks! We are headed for Brisbane - but not 100% sure of actual area yet - thats the latest dilema! would love Buderim - but may be a tad too far to commute into Brisbane (thats if I get work there of course!)
  16. thanks! We front loaded the Medicals/Police Checks - had them in December - CO was assigned about 1 month ago - but we had to re-submit a lot of additional information (proof of earning's over the last 10 years) - I'll get all the dates - and update my signature.
  17. Hi all - just wanted to say that we are the proud new owners of a 189 Skilled Independent Visa! i wanted to say thanks to everyone for their help - you know who you are :-) now the hard work begins - we have to land by 3rd Dec to validate - so a busy few weeks/ months ahead.
  18. What type of assessment? RPL ? Have you checked the online status of your application? I sent an email to the generic account a few times and found them to be quick in their replies.
  19. Not great news - as with anyone else on POI it's all about getting work so we can live the dream. I knew about the Government job losses - but to be faced with competition of around 200 applications and then hear about the Brisbane experience is even more worrying. we won't be ready until December and want to coincide the move with school holidays etc - but this may need a little re-think....especially as there is plenty of work at the moment in the uk. good luck in your job hunt - if you are on he ground - it may be better for you - stay positive - try the direct approach
  20. Notice that Form 1023 is for "Notification of Incorrect Answer" and Form 1022 is for "Change of Circumstance" As Per immi.gov Website: Examples of a change in circumstances include: new job new passport new member of your family discovery of incorrect information in your application change of address or contact details.
  21. It is a gamble - but it's also an amazing opportunity for the family. I don't want to look back in 10 years time and say "what if" - I would rather try (for us - we started this process over 10 years ago...and the wife changed her mind)...I was depressed about this decision - but I would be more depressed without my family - so we stayed in the UK...then 2 years ago - out of the blue...the rest of the family decided that maybe it wasn't the best place for us..and we've all been 100% committed to this move. Yes there will be a struggle - we are not going into this blinkered thinking it's going to be rosy - we had far more Positive's on the "yes" board than the "No" (We had a reason to stay in the UK and go to OZ "board" - have a go...you will be surprised at the results...). Everyone's situation is different - whether you have been there or not....
  22. I concur with RivieraKid - BUT beware if you do it yourself - you have to check, double check and then triple check every answer you give. Make sure you can substantiate what you claim. I thought I did with the References for example - but these do not match what the CO has to see in order to make a valid judgement...so this adds stress and time. I've had a few issues doing it myself - but the good people on here are always willing to lend their knowledge. As for jobs - Its difficult at the moment - but thats the same everywhere - do your research...seek.com.au is popular. I have spoken to a few "Agency's" and they are positive until you mention you are still in the UK...we plan (if we are lucky to get the Visa...to go over in December and already know that it will be quiet until February...which has positives - as I can have 8 weeks (and possibly more) to actually enjoy the move - and make sure the family are settled...whats the point of moving away from one stressful existence to start another one immediately. We have planned and saved for that reason alone. which part are you looking at?
  23. Thanks RivieraKid - appreciate the positive outlook...as you say - I may be over-egging it...I've now re-read all the info from the CO and noticed that I was thinking too much about the email she sent me rather than the "Request Checklist" information - and this simply says Tax Document Payslips Superannuation Retirement fund statements I can provide a P60 for each of the past 10 years - no other document I can think would show me as an Employee of the company. The others would be Tax Returns (but these are what I fill in) Payslips - not really Payslips - as most of my contracts have been self-invoiced (eg. a timesheet would automatically pay my Ltd company) - I would then get a Payment Analysis from the Accountant. Superannuation Retirement fund statements - n/a for me! So will give what they ask for but also the additional stuff too
  24. I've now put a comprehensive - albeit a bit sketchy pack of evidence together for the CO (for some clients I dont have all the contracts - because sometimes I would of had multiple extensions, but will have an Invoice and bank statement.... And will start to upload - my only concern now is that I do have some gaps in area's over 7-10 years ago - I do have a client reference - but don't have anything to tie in payments from the company to my Umbrella at the time - does this mean the CO could take away some Work Experience from me? What could this potentially mean?
  25. thanks again. Its been a hectic weekend of going through paperwork - and I've managed to build some sort of link between the Umbrella Company and me - so showing I've been paid from the Umbrella to my Personal Account - but still need to get old copies of contracts linking the agency with the Umbrella! Not sure If I will annoy the CO though - eg. In 2002-2007 I was with an Umbrella Company who paid me weekly - and at the time I also had a weekly bank statement....(looking back I think WHY!) So for that 5 year period - I will have approx 240 statements (Personal) to scan and PDF....surely the CO doesn't want to see all that? I could get copies of my P60 which will also help. Lots of paper! I wish there was an easier way! the CO was helpful - but only to a point - she said If I didnt know which documents I need to send her - then get a Migration Agent! ;-)
